Today, we're excited to unveil a 1-hour exclusive mix from Dutch techno talent Ramon Tapia, one of the four artists on the upcoming Pan-Pot - FORTE Remix Pt. 2 EP out next week. Tapia grew up in Holland vibing to Detroit techno and legends like Michael Jackson. After a breakthrough with a 2010 Strictly Rhythm compilation, he launched Say What? Recordings in 2012.

Przemek Puzewicz, known as Rust, has been active member of polish scene as a DJ and event promoter since 2005. By this time he had a chance to try a variety of different techno styles such as: classic, acid, uk, groove and hard getting sometimes close to schranz. However the sound created on TB-303 has always been closest to his taste. His sets are full of dynamics, rolling drums, cut vocals mixed with fine amount of acid, usually hard but not necessarily heavy. As an event promoter he was introduced to the scene with Sleepwalkers crew but it is @warsawmechanism which he had co-created that was the biggest success among polish underground techno collectives. Currently involved in @theia-crush.

Sara, known as SABRE, had her first performance in front of a larger audience in February 2021. Initially, she focused around fast and hard varieties of techno with a bit of a trancy vibe. After some time, she turned towards lighter but not slower sounds. Currently, she draws her main inspirations from the French scene and a fairly young variety of groove techno, a delicate, fast paced kick intertwined with numerous sounds. She contributes to the scene through @theia-crush, a relatively new project through which she can implement numerous ideas related in broad sense to organization of events.

1997 - 2017... 20 Years of Techno on Planet Kobayashi - VA

This week we turn to another close Dekmantel family member in Matrixxman. In just a couple of years the American has emerged as one of the foremost producers in the house and techno world. His rugged analogue sounds have come thick and fast over nearly 20 EPs and are famous for their balance of quality, invention and diversity. Never sticking to the same sound for long, his Sector series on our label proved that, roaming as it does from repetitive peak time techno futurism to mind melting acid and back again. Always focussed squarely on the dance floor, that carries over into his always body jerking sets, many of which have been at Dekmantel events and festivals around the world. 

Over the course of an hour here, the artist goes deep into a streamlined, intergalactic techno soundworld. Supple synths are layered up over pressurised and rubbery drums, manic melodies circle the grooves and there is a sense of darkness to the whole thing that is truly compelling. As energy levels ramp up throughout, you can’t help but go hard right until the blissed out ambient end game.

Alan Fitzpatrick’s We Are The Brave brand has well and truly landed. Their debut sold-out club shows, held over one weekend at the end of March were preceded by three barmy house parties live broadcast from the homes of fans, and a host of well received singles have now come and gone, setting the tone for followers to expect the unexpected from the label with their self styled motto of We Do What We Want. 

It is then with a nonchalant shrug of the shoulders and poker face glare that We Are The Brave dish out their latest offering, ‘You Got Me’. As Fitzpatrick goes on to explain:

“Brave will always be the most natural home for my music, whether it be a familiar style to listeners or not. The whole point is that we are building an excitement around the music being released by not following a particular pattern or pandering to expectation. Hopefully I’ve made the point over the first three releases that We Are The Brave is about going with a flow and not letting preconceptions limit your experience, so its about time we released a good old Fitzpatrick rave banger, init!” 

Even the most fleeting of listens to the intro of thumping kick drums, precision crafted percussion and thunderous claps will give a strong clue that Fitzpatrick is back at the controls this time out. By the time the cut is in full throttle just after the two-minute mark then you can sense the knowing looks starting to shoot about the room as the familiar feeling grows. Luckily for anyone still unsure, all doubt is cast off at the half way point when the rave pads and breakbeats rip on from nowhere followed in hot pursuit by the "classic" Emmanuel Top "Play It Loud" you got me burning up vocal.

Some more recent converts to Alan Fitzpatrick may not be fully aware of the depth of his catalogues, never mind the 20+ years discography that Slam have behind them or indeed the history of remix collaboration between the two that goes back to 2010. However, despite the heavy dosing of hoovers and horns on their You Got Me rework, this Slam Track Series remix is all about the here and now as Glasgow’s techno kings turn in another example of the fine form they find themselves on right now.
