We’re hugely privileged to present this 3 hour, 33 minute and 33 seconds mix, one of the rare moments we can put a spotlight on the depth of our record library to date. So often when playing peaktime sets, it becomes difficult to fit in less energetic or slower BPM gems. With our roots in Southern Africa, this is where we wanted to begin. In modern times, as Afro House has gained more commercial appeal, it’s become commonplace to include beautiful vocal toplines over a strong Afro trackbed. Some of the earlier tracks remind us of our favourite moments watching the sunrise on a Safari in the middle of the bush in Botswana. As the set progresses, so does the energy level, becoming akin to a typical peak time FiNE set around the 2 hour mark. For us, song selection is everything, and our sets are known for taking listeners on a rollercoaster of emotions. The backend of the set turns nostalgic, finishing with some of our all time favourites ‘Innerbloom’ by Rüfüs Du Sol and a secret weapon Afro House remix of ‘Hold My Liquor’ by Kanye West. Of course, we included some originals too including our upcoming releases ‘Check Mate’ and ‘Cloud 9’ on one of our favourite labels, Recovery Collective, based in Melbourne, Australia.

Currently his focus is firmly planted on progressing his solo journey. Within the span of a year, Luca has already managed to make a name for himself in production circles, with well received releases on seminal labels such as Frau Blau and the aforementioned Get Physical, all while building up his latest new imprint, Super Sapiens, an outlet to anticipate and shape his future audioscape.

This was a very special night playing records at RŪMU in Portugal. 

A note about vinyl, a medium many of us love. Playing vinyl for me is more pleasurable, even if it’s less convenient. It’s also more vulnerable, and one thing I like about this set is it’s illustrative of the path travelled this year. This is an unedited recording, straight from the booth at RŪMU. I haven’t shared a set in over a year, largely as my perspective and taste have been shifting faster than my desire to share beyond the dancers in the room when the music is being played.

The set feels like it has three chapters of roughly one hour each. First, a Detroit/Berlin axis exploration with the dance floor. Second, a deeper, hypnotic, broadening of the musical spectrum of the set significantly as I felt more comfortable with the energy in the room. Third, an energetic and more progressive recapitulation of the collective experience. Part of what made the night so special was the feeling of trust and support from the dance floor in going further musically than I might have otherwise.

This year I moved to Berlin to study, to learn, and to go deeper with music. This is my own exploration of music’s connection to my life story and purpose, but it was without a doubt inspired by so many who have moved there long before me. I don’t know where this journey will take me, and I am doing my best to just be present with it in the process and contribute my energy as best I can.

Playing Music To A Wall #7

Its been a while since we posted a @welovetoytoy set. Every time we play in the garden on Friday nights we have an insane amount of fun. There's just something about the crowd and the atmosphere that makes us feel at home and free to experiment with different sounds and tempos and genres. The December closing party is always extra special. Arriving at the club to see a queue of ravers snaking around the block is such a wonderful endorsement of the cult-like following that TOYTOY has created over many years of hard work and consistency.

Born in Brazil, Adnan Sharif immigrated to San Francisco, California in 1987.

His DJ career began in 1995, and his musical style includes all genres of House Music, ranging from deep, minimal to tech.

Adnan is the founder and resident of the Forward SF party, which for 13 years made big part of the San Francisco's electronic culture.

Since May 2013 he is a resident at  D.EDGE in São Paulo, at the parties Freak Chic and Superafter.

At the end of 2000 he began his journey in music production, releasing in labels such as:
Smoke N Mirrors, D-Edge Records, OM Records, Uniting Souls Music, Release Sustain, Erase Records, Rezongar Music, Area Sur Records, Temple Music Group, Tarantic Records and Jah Love Recordings.
