Well, you saw Red Skelton's mug on the cover image, that means there's only one guest who can cover this movie adequately, and that's John Cassaro, who produces music under the name Journeyman John Baker, find his work where ever you find music.

But wait, there's so much more reason to cover this film. It is the final MGM starring role of the luminous Eleanor Powell. Hazel Scott and Lena Horne both perform an incredible specialty number, and this film begins the reign of Kay Thompson at MGM.

Welcome back to Escapades. We're here to bring you another in a long line of epochal films from the Arthur Freed Unit. This time, the movie's important for what it didn't do.  That's right, we're talking about Freed's first flop, 1945's Yolanda and the Thief.

To do all that, we have one of our best guests, John Cassaro, AKA Journeyman John Baker (find his work @pos1) back again and doing the good work, which mostly means we get to go long on the ridiculous hubris of Arthur Freed and how he turned this particular movie into his first Waterloo.
