A few summers ago, I had an unforgettable adventure in the Pacific Ocean, experiencing a close encounter with a whale. The impact of this majestic creature, diving into the enigmatic blue of the sea, left an indelible mark in the depths of my heart.

The composition of this song is simple yet powerful: the bass symbolizes the density of the sea, and if you listen closely, you'll hear the whales singing. A significant part of the rhythm is also created by their own sounds. Later, when you hear the harmonica, you'll notice how it responds to the calls of nature. I felt a strong need to communicate with nature through my music.

I hope you enjoy this marvelous composition, and above all, let yourself dance to the rhythm of nature's connection. Dance with the whales!

Hace unos veranos, tuve una inolvidable incursión en el Mar Pacífico y experimenté un encuentro cercano con una ballena. Fue una experiencia tan impactante que quedó grabada en lo más profundo de mi corazón cuando la majestuosa ballena se sumergió en el enigmático azul del mar.

La composición de esta canción es sencilla pero poderosa: el bajo simboliza la densidad del mar, y si prestas atención, podrás escuchar el canto de las ballenas. Gran parte del ritmo también está formado por sus propios sonidos. Más adelante, cuando escuches el sonido de la armónica, notarás cómo responde a los llamados de la naturaleza. Sentí una gran necesidad de comunicarme con la naturaleza a través de mi música.

Espero que disfruten esta maravillosa composición y, sobre todo, que bailen al ritmo de la conexión con la naturaleza. Bailen con las ballenas!

Qtier is Adam and Howard, two London-based electronic musicians who make beautiful, captivating music for the city. Having announced their arrival earlier this year with the massive Still EP, now they’re back with The Cards, a stunning collection of tracks set for release on BPitch Control, the prestigious Berlin electronic label responsible for releases from Apparat, Modeselektor and it’s esteemed label boss Ellen Allien.  For Qtier, The Cards EP is about control, adoration and perception, all viewed through the prism of what electronic music means to them.

It’s the collision of Adam’s breathtaking, tender vocals, and Howard’s forward thinking electronics that makes this outfit’s sound so remarkable. With both members coming from such diverse musical places, the marriage of their differences creates a unique union of genuine, heartfelt songwriting with exceptional production.  The first offering from Qtier became an instant sensation, with big support coming from BBC 6 Music, The Fly and XFM, marking them out as a band on the verge of something very special.

Adding drums to the live line-up, their first ever outing was a mesmerizing performance at a now infamous house party in South London. Since then, 2013 saw the band have play to packed crowds at a string of unusual spaces; receiving lavish praise from Time Out for their masterful live interpretations of their studio productions.

On a special episode of Free Samples, we sit down with Madilyn Povey, a 16 year old producer out of New Zealand. She is pushing the envelope of hip hop production by sampling music from different countries around the world, from Vietnam to Italy to Pakistan and more. In a 4-album series titled "around the globe," Povey is creating hip hop beats from music not typically sampled. Stockholm Syndrome are a DJ/producer duo based in Melbourne made up of Scottish born Iain Mac and Australian Brett Wilson. The unlikely duo, recognising their similar tastes came together to form Stockholm Syndrome in late 2013 after DJing at the same party. Their style varies widely and unapologetically, it can’t be neatly wrapped up into a single genre. They’re drawn to dark, moody, sub 120bpm techno, the energetic, raw and powerful Mex-tech, the Slo-Mo and the Balearic, Drug Chug and the strange.
