Da ist Dub, aber er hallt bis weit über die Genre-Grenzen hinaus. Da ist ein sommerlicher Hauch von Reggae, aber erfrischend anders als sonst. Es klingt extrem lässig, aber auch ganz wunderbar tanzbar. Da sind geistreiche Texte, aber letztendlich geht’s hier ums Hörerlebnis. Es ist das, was JPattersson als PROGaDUB bezeichnet – denn er kommt schließlich nicht aus Jamaika, sondern aus dem Osten der deutschen Bundesrepublik. Inspiriert von schwergewichtigen Bässen, Fahrradfahrten und karibischen Riddims, von Schokolade, oldschooligen Groovebox Sounds und vom sorgenfreien Krawall auf der Straße spielender Kinder hat das junge Talent ein Album produziert, das in erster Linie vielfältig ist. „We Came In Peace“ lebt von dynamischem Sprechgesang und leidenschaftlichem Trompetenspiel. Der „Ravers Dub“ mischt gradlinige Beats mit schmissigen Offbeat-Akkorden und den psychedelischen Echos einer Steel Drum. Der eingängige Refrain von „Turn Off Your Smartphone“ lädt zum mitsingen ein, und „Vagabond“  gestaltet sich als raffiniertes Wechselspiel zwischen handgemachter Musik und synthetischem Groove. An manchen Stellen blitzt eine Idee Balkan-Sound hervor, an anderen ein Hauch von Jazz. JPattersson hat auf sein Bauchgefühl gehört und sein eigenes Genre definiert: PROGaDUB.

It's Dub, but reverberating far beyond the genre's borders. It has a summer Reggae vibe, but doesn't sound like just another chapter of that good, old story. It's perfidiously dope, but at the same time extremely danceable. It has clever lyrics, but it's all about the sound. It's what JPattersson describes as PROGaDUB – because he's not from Jamaica, he's from East Germany. Inspired by heavyweight bass lines, bicycle rides and Caribbean riddims, by chocolate, vintage groovebox sounds and the carefree ruckus of kids playing on the street, the young talent delivers an album that is chiefly progressive and diverse. “We Came In Peace” is build around dynamic chanting and passionate trumpet play. “Ravers Dub” is a smooth melange of straight beats, mellow offbeat chords and the psychedelic echoes of a steel drum. The chorus of “Turn Off Your Smartphone” invites to sing along, and “Vagabond” is a dreamy  interplay of hand-made music and synthetic groove. Some tracks come with a sublime hint of Balkan sound, some with an air of Jazz. In doing what felt right, JPattersson has successfully defined his very own genre: PROGaDUB.

‘Exos’ marks an anticipated return for Alex Niggemann, following his two 2017 outings, ‘Legacy’ / ‘Fences’ (AEON027) and ‘Serenity’ (AEON031). The releases on the highly respected Berlin based producer’s label, AEON, mirror the DJ sets that he is famed for, focused on conjuring up the spirit of classic and timeless music, whilst always pushing boundaries and moving things forward.

Alex’s first outing in 2018 is a diverse package that displays his customary variety of moods and textures. ‘Exos’ demonstrates Alex’s command of intricate layering techniques, and jacking rhythmic patterns sure to rock the most discerning of floors, building to a satisfying synth laden climax.

‘Array’ by contrast, adheres to a darker and more melancholic mood, building a haunting tension throughout, and driving relentlessly and menacingly forward at all times.

Yotam Avni has been catching many people’s attention with his recent outings on Innervisions and Hotflush. Here the exceptionally talented DJ/Producer provides perfect remix interpretation for ‘Array’: mounted on a deliciously solid groove, Yotam’s arrangement continually teases and surprises, introducing esoteric percussion and sensual synth flourishes to create an atmospheric alternative.

Celebrating it’s 5th anniversary this year, Alex Niggemann’s lovingly curated AEON defined by his ever-careful devotion to perfection, provides a distinctive vision. This bold attitude has precipitated AEON’s ability to continually evolve and flourish, since its inception. With an ethos based on encouraging creativity and experimentation without restrictions and expectations, AEON is a platform to showcase music that stands for quality and originality - music that can ultimately become timeless and treasured forever.
