As co-founder of the Music From Memory label, UK born but Berlin based Jamie Tiller has encouraged us all to take time out, go slow and get lost in some essential Balearic, neo-classical and minimalist works by legends old and new. As well as working with celebrated Italian composer Gigi Masin, the label has put out the work of ambient super group Gaussian Curve and Joan Biblioni amongst others. The next project for these obscure gem lovers is a timely re-issue of UK band The System and as such Tiller and co are doing fine work as historical treasure hunters. 

Jamie —also part of the Red Light Records team— DJs all round Europe and as such has put together a mix for our series that shows where he is at. It proves him to be a lover of colourful and harmonious melody, of beachy guitar licks and sun kissed sounds that bounce along on a buoyant groove. Flashes of 80s sass, pumping euro disco and slick, classic sounding house are all part of the most pleasing puzzle.

Mike Burns has been collecting records and DJing for approximately 18 years to date, in that time he has amassed a sizeable and diverse collection. In his home town of Vienna he runs a small monthly night appropriately titled Disco Fetish as well as the occasional Afro themed excursion at Club Majik. I stumbled across a mix of his a few months back and having put it on whilst having a cold beer in the sunshine I fell in love with pretty much every track - the unrelenting upbeat African & Caribbean cuts transporting me to a beautiful exotic beach. I asked Mike if he could prepare something for us at Métron and hope that you all get to sit in the sun to enjoy his musical offerings as much as I did. 

Focusing on older releases and his own edits, Mike’s Métron Musik Mixtape showcases his love of all things disco, funk and afro-fusion. It’s a buoyant mixtape filled with amazing instrumental performances, beautiful guitar work, outstanding brass sections and plenty of irresistible afro-percussion. It’s just jam packed with great tracks, including a recent shared edits 12’’ with Albion on Zagreb Based label Legalise Lambada, as well as a couple more upcoming edits records on Kojak Giant Sounds, Rotating Souls and Villalegre Records - three labels well worth exploring. Get out in the sunshine and enjoy this bombastic exploration of what makes African music so wonderfully warm and gratifying.

Phil Passera, the DJ and producer behind the Payfone output on Golf Channel has put together a timely summer selection this week. Phil tells us the mix is 100% vinyl and consists only of  Records he found in flea markets around Barcelona this Spring, and all music is from between 1977 and 1984. It's quite a ride. Adventures in Paradise are excited to introduce hot new talents to the Balearic scene Falle & Soma World. Otherwise known as Falle Noike, Josh Ludlow and Tom Green, they deliver a stunning debut with ‘Want This’.
Vocalist Falle is an accomplished singer/songwriter and musician who has played throughout West Africa and the UK and is currently getting significant airplay on BBC Radio 6 for a release he did with Ghost Culture.
The vinyl version comes with the original vocal recording and an instrumental on the A-side with an extended vocal cut on the flip. Remixes come courtesy of legend and consummate production ace Ray Mang, who manages to take the original and rework it into a dance-floor ready smasher.
The digital package adds an extended mix of the OG, with a further two remixes including a vocal and radio, edit and the extended remix will be exclusive to the vinyl release.
This record is a sumptuously crafted Afro tinged groover, that builds and lifts alongside the captivating vocals of Falle. It comes with layer upon layer of warmth that will take you on a journey into the sun, even without leaving your home.
