As he prepares for what is possibly his busiest and most exciting summer to date, Eklektisch boss Edu Imbernon is safe in the knowledge that his fledgling label going from strength to strength at a quite dizzying rate of knots. 2010 was a defining moment for the label, with a sales chart topping single from Pleasurekraft being the highlight.As we stepped into 2011 the heat continued with Edu himself releasing the massively supported "Niquel," with its stunning David August and Dosem mixes. Today the label looks to continue its stunning run of form and sees Edu team up with his great friends, Los Suruba on the awesome "Punset."

Having just set up his summer basecamp in Ibiza and with a season ahead of as official Space resident, things really couldn't be any better for Edu Imbernon. Alex Niggemann’s AEON label mirrors the peak time DJs sets that the supremely talented Berliner plays, staying focused on conjuring up the spirit of classic and timeless house and techno, updating it and creating new boundless possibilities for the future. Since launching the label in 2013 Alex has been gradually building a family of like-minded creative individuals to keep the AEON ethos moving ever forward.

As with AEON 18 however, Alex Niggemann steps up with another landmark voyage into the realms of melodic, deep techno, delivering two tracks with a sound that defines a very popular and relevant style. Divergent is a stirring track with stabbing synths and a breakbeat drum pattern, punctuated by an evocative drop around half way through the track. As is customary on Alex Niggemann AEON releases, the B-Side, Luminance, takes things into deeper territory, with a rolling bassline and a deep percussive groove.

Another fantastic release from the all conquering label, and a one in particular that has been played throughout the whole summer in almost every set by Tale Of Us (including at Circoloco), Mind Against (e.g. in their Boiler Room set) and Scuba.

John Monkman makes his debut on Noir Music and this guy has been on my radar for quite some time now due to releases on Kompakt, Crosstown Rebels and Get Physical. I got the Trusting Source track about 6 months ago and basically signed it after one listen. Since then both John and I have been road- testing, talking about the track and John has been adjusting the track to dancefloor perfection. In the process of it all I suggested John that he made a 2-tracker instead of a single release of Trusting Source. He knocked me off my feet with first listen of Lacquer which is another genius piece of music from the London-based producer.Both tracks are super groovy. Trusting Souce being the classic and timeless effort and Lacquer the more experimental and forward thinking piece.Hit play and check out this fantastic double a-side release.

Cologne’s electronic music community keeps on giving, drawing on a dense plethora of fresh talent ready to shake up our little big grassroots industry. The latest ace up the city’s sleeve must be Tim Engelhardt, part of a new breed of incredibly versatile young producers that get their cues from all sorts of genres and listening situations, combining profound musical knowledge with intuitive playfulness and multiple perspectives on sound. In Tim’s case, we’re dealing with a solid pianist background - which becomes rather obvious in the great care he takes over harmonies and an expanded melodic structure. However, that’s just one side of the story, as the organic fluidity and atmospheric dexterity of his music most certainly hark back to an upbringing among the rolling hills and sprawling forests of Germany’s Westerwald - one of the country’s best known mountain ranges that has already inspired artists such as Dominik Eulberg or Gabriel Ananda. 

Having released your first recordings at the tender age of 14 – as Tim did in 2012 - might put you in a “wunderkind” category – a flattering, but ultimately risky proposition, finding many a prodigy overwhelmed with the dubious honour. Not so much our hero, who chose to put his skills to work: in only four years, he grew his portfolio with plenty outings on labels such as Traum Schallplatten, WIR, Babiczstyle, Amuse Gueule, Ostwind Records, Popart Music, Playmusic Productions, Parquet Recordings, Manual Music and more – but his breakthrough release was hands-down the 2015 EP “Everything Is All You Have” on Steve Bug’s iconic Poker Flat imprint, followed by “Enigmatism” on the same label. Something definitely clicked, as Poker Flat Recordings now proudly presents Tim’s debut album “Moments Of Truth”, the first full-length survey of his sonic savvy and a terrifc listening experience to boot, which will find its connoisseurs in both the club and at home.
 
Exuding a considerable maturity from the very first second, "Moments Of Truth" opens with the title cut, which shows Tim giving its slowly undulating melody ample room to breathe until a bass drum gently joins the proceedings. An evident master at manipulating the momentum, he carefully nurtures the album’s flow with the follow-up cuts “Solitude”, an expert exercise in atmospheric grooves, and the sparkling “The Myths Of You”, whose exquisite melancholy and virtuoso synth laments will give you goosebumps. A heartwarming detour into electronic balladry, “Eyes Closed” features stunning vocals by Forrest – it’s here that the deeply lyrical core of Tim’s music is laid bare, revealing him as an utterly accomplished songwriter with a nearly unholy knack for emotional impact. Meanwhile, “When The Distance Disappears”, “Kissing Your Eyes” and “Beyond Time” shake a leg with spirited chords and crisp percussion, followed by mellow belter “Azimute” and the wonderfully nostalgic “I Am Here”. Closing ambient track “Endless” wraps up the journey by diving into a starry night sky: it’s yet more evidence for Tim’s prowess in all things heartfelt and electronic, with or without a straight bass drum.
