We got a very special podcast from our friend and BALANS artist Staffan Linzatti. The Swedish scifi producer send us a 67 minute LIVE PA instead of a DJ mix wich literally blew us away. His 'View From The Collapsing Centre EP' is off course featured in the liveset as well as material from his own Searchlights and a whole heep of unreleased material. He will perform live at our BALANS event on september the 20th @ Melkweg Amsterdam and you can expect more from Staffan on the label in the future! 

1.What is your relationship with Balans?

I meet Darko last summer over a coffee, and kind of hit it off straight away. We decided to do something together and everything just grew from that. We managed to meet for another coffee this summer, and I am looking forward to having yet another one with Darko in September. 


2.What do you do to try and stay in balance? Any tips & secrets you  would like to share with us night folks?

Tough question. Record shopping, fresh air, and never being afraid of a challenge would be a good start I think -never get too comfortable to try out new things.  


3.About the podcast, can you tell us the story behind the mix?

This is a recording of a live-set I did a few weeks ago. The thought was to present a mix of current and future ideas, and to explore new ground for music even further out in the future. 

4.What gear did you use to make the Balans podcast?

My usual live-setup; A Frost audio computer, two evolution-uc33, and a novation launchpad.


5.What do you have in store for us (gigs/releases) the coming months?

The fourth release on Searchlights Records was released not too long ago, as well as my first record on Balans. Right now we (me and my brother Mathias) are planning SIGHTS-005, I am working on another record for Balans, and a few other labels, as well as writing music with a good friend of mine for an exhibition of his. Basically, just spending a lot of time writing and recording music.

AEON009 is expertly crafted by AEON labelboss and veritable wunderkind of the multi-faceted anologue electronic, German DJ and producer Alex Niggemann.
As a firm believer that a collection of music should unravel and develop like the plot of a good book, this EP is an apt offering from the German maestro, who has recently seen (and is still seeing) underground chart success with his release ‘Materium’ on Poker Flat, as the likes of Sven Vath, Tale of Us and Mano le Tough continue to drop it to revering masses across the globe.
Following successful releases on Poker Flat, Compost Black Label and Last Night On Earth to name a few, ‘Abaton’ carries on his chameleonic success. The title track highlights Niggemann’s affinity with texture and genre- defying sound, as he mixes ethereal chords with stark ashen synths for a truly goose bump- inducing musical experience.
First on remix duty is the outfit Quantum Entanglement, comprised of Lee Jones and Fink, who provide a somewhat mellow interpretation, leading into a satisfying deeper progression.
Irish producer Chymera evokes an eery landscape with his rework of the track, with the tentative sound of synths juxtaposed with murkier sonic trails and a tiptoeing bassline.
Niggemann rounds off the EP with ‘Tripping Minds’ - a maze of rhythmic curlicues that dance around melancholic pads and descend over a bassline that truly packs a punch, causing the listener to yearn for a dancefloor, or reminisce on a past moment of musical clarity that can only come from the most prolific of
music.
The fifth track is a Beatport exclusive in the form of a Lee Jones remix.
This collection of intelligent, almost lugubrious sonic expression is a fitting display of how far Alex Niggemann, and indeed his AEON label have come; catapulting you into a darker, more aggressive and impressive world of musical capability.

It is no secret that Ben Watt has chosen to close his acclaimed label Buzzin' Fly to new music after ten great years as one of the UK's leading dance independents. But the label has chosen to go out with a bang with one final single. Unearthed from the vaults are two dazzling tracks from cornerstone artists, Rodamaal, and Manoo and Francios A.

Rodamaal's ‘Fortune' was originally completed back in 2007 but scheduling problems prevented it from being released at the time. Produced by the Franco-Portuguese trio (Rocco, Darkmountaingroup's Alex Santos and Manoo) it is a stark but emotionally-charged deep-techno masterpiece, that deserves its place alongside their other classics for the label, ‘Musica Feliz' and ‘Insomnia'. On the flip, and originally produced in 2005, is ‘Other Places' a long-lost track by Manoo and Francois A. Full of summer shimmer and heavy bass tones, it was produced by the duo during their heyday at the label, and was a secret favourite of label boss, Ben Watt. 

Two perfect swansongs. Buzz buzz.
