After Kollaps & No Mind-Reso [Mellon Place Records]

Sincopat welcomes back the UpSideDown series after more than a year. It returns with new concept, to show the Indie and freaky side of the label. Like previous releases, UpSideDown introduces a bunch of tracks from different artists, turning dance music upside down. It combines the new faces with the consolidated artists. Ninth release includes fresh music by Demarzo, AFFKT, Daniel Kyo, Marc Bach and Sutja Gutierrez. 

Daniel Kyo & AFFKT - Sundays [UpSideDown 09]

Part Danish, part Croatian techno maestro Denis Horvat has wasted no time in making a name for himself as an artist to sit up and take note of. After erupting onto the scene with vibe heavy releases on some of the underground’s most coveted labels Denis returns to Alex Niggeman’s AEON imprint with a club ready three track EP sure to set dancefloors alight throughout summer 2016. 

Opening with title track ‘Exit’ Denis quickly sets the tone for what’s to come with a rapturously rolling beat and instantly recognisable pounding bassline. With the introduction of long, drawn out bass folds and quickening synths going a long way to set the pace, Denis expertly builds anticipation before dropping the track into a deep, club ready roller – leaving no doubt in his expert production capabilities. 

Next up, ‘Moderna’ rolls in and keeps the vibe decidedly underground with a plethora of futuristic horns and synth interchanges quickly building suspense before the beat kicks in and the listener is taken to altogether more euphoric place. With a deeply moreish keyboard loop and atmospheric bass formations, ‘Moderna’ ups the ante on this record, taking the release from straightforward club EP, to artist defining record. 

Rounding off the three tracker, ‘Transparent’ opens with a tough punchy beat that can be instantly attributed to Horvat’s sonic aesthetic. The beat gives way into deep, driving drums before the whole track takes an almost acidic turn with waspy synths and a compellingly underground bassline, leaving no doubt in this track’s sure fire capability as a big room club weapon.

Calling in Marvin & Guy for remix duties the EP is brought to a close with the duo’s up tempo interpretation of ‘Transparent’. Keeping the track firmly club ready, Marvin & Guy’s influence can be heard in quazor like synths and elongated build up before the clappy high hats give way to an intense dancefloor roller sure to have a massive impact on the underground techno scene from London to Miami and back again. 

Moderna

After all the Smoke & Ashes that was launched in our BeenTouched series, Pete returns to Sincopat now in the main and front line. Trying Not To the almighty Gabriel Ananda on remix duties.

Pete continues exploring the sound and giving emotion to his music today in form of three new tracks full of soul and heart. Trying Not To is a tight huge track that will burn the most demanding places. Master Gabriel Ananda presents an exquisite version rich in details and getting a fantastic balance between deep and tech. We knew he is a quality stamp. 

Graphium follows the futuristic and tasteful line of Electronic Music. Sinister and dark voices for a devastating effect on the dancefloor. Me My Molly shows Pete’s more elegant stuff. He goes a bit deeper with sensual melodies but for sure also a great pick of the night. But, as Pete says, let the music speak by itself.


Pete Oak - Me, My, Molly [Sincopat 42]

Our French amigo Darlyn Vlys returns to his home Sincopat with another special ep along Tunisian and very talented producer HearThuG. After their ‘Atoms of Love’ included in the Vomvo album 02 mixed by AFFKT, the boys come back putting the level even higher than before. 

Agore is a fantastic piece of music between the purest deep and electronica. The great original mix walks thru dark and rich places. Haptic voice is added with his particular and sweet sound. For the Cosmo edit delicate synths are added for a new and nice vision. 

For the remix, the British but established in Berlin Eric Volta offers a film 14 minute trip taking items from different styles. Hard to get a definition, but for sure a stunning and clever version of this Agore. The whole ep is absolutely a surprising journey thru the Electronic Music.

‘Son of a Thousand Sounds’, the long-awaited sophomore LP from AFFKT is just around the corner (release date: September 23). But before that happens, we’re very glad to introduce 'Flashcrash' to you, the final single before the album's released.  

This new song once again features the stunning vocals of Sutja Gutierrez, a skilled singer who also appears on ‘The Show’ (the first single taken from the album) and ‘Someone in the Sky’ (second single). With his inclusion pop sensations have definitely taken a back seat in favour of uncompromising dance floor flavors. Sometimes funky and fresh, sometimes emotional and breath-taking, this time Sutja offers a more serious and sinister voice that recalls some mesmerising but pained Placebo’s song - who knows, maybe hunted within an electronic box.   

The icing of this freshly baked cake is thanks to the remixers: Renato Cohen and dubspeeka, both highly respected artists, complete the diversified and sophisticated electronic journey of the Spanish talent. The São Paulo-based Cohen demonstrates once again his natural talent on the groove, utilising snippets of the original's dynamic vocal layered with scratchy percussion loops. Whilst, on the other hand, the shadowy Bristolian producer dubspeeka delivers yet another booming smart-techno soundscape. An authentic intoxicating dancefloor cut.

Why do we tell stories?

We breathe, we eat, we sleep. We seek connection. These are our basic human needs.

But there is one more need we all share, and it centres on stories. All across the world, stories are being recounted everywhere, in every imaginable way, at any given time. For telling stories is at the very essence of what it is to be human.

The universe of stories can be broken down into seven basic plots which underlie all stories ever told. Recognising these patterns is the gateway to unravelling the universal symbolic language from which all storytelling is spun.

With The Quest, Chapter 24 returns with seven stories in sound collected from artists across the world to bring these themes to life.

NHAR (My Favorite Robot, Correspondant) is a consummate storyteller, and he opens the book with the glistening space tech of 'Navigli'. This is quickly followed up by newcomer Dan Grassler, whose superb 'Going Back' with US vocalist KnowKontrol is powerfully brooding and promises great things for the Munich-based producer.

The momentum picks up further with the standout 'Over My Head', a dark and delicious cut from two returning Chapter 24 artists, Alex Zed and Billie Fountain.

The label welcomes Teho and Machino for their inaugural releases on the imprint. Frenchman Teho (Herzblut, Parquet) serves up a double helping of delight with the skilfully crafted 'Back To The Forest' and the tense tech house of 'Drunken Leads'. Meanwhile, Machino (Desert Hearts), one of a new wave of Tijuana-based producers, showcases his unique blend of potent techno and ambient influences on 'Perdidos'.

Finally, Melodule and Van Did bring the tales to a close with 'Téou 12', a dreamy, abstract piece that showcases wonky basslines, drifting pads and engaging sound design.

They say that there are only seven basic plots but a thousand different stories.

And so, as the storyteller utters that age old, magical phrase "Once upon a time...", let yourself be carried away…

Loss of control. Shimmering lights, smelly buildings'corners, a heavy throb in your head. Time doesn't pass, doesn't stop, is meaningless. Your whole body is off-line, your mind blown away. But that doesn't matter because it brings you further and you set the direction. Marc DePulse's second longplayer "Kontrollverlust" will be out in November. Loosing yourself in music, in trance - on purpose or because life takes it's way - that's what it's about. While "Uranus51" is mystical and spheric, a straight way into nowhere, the second track "Her Fragrance" already catches you with dark, dirty bass lines and pulsating beats. Xenia Beliayeva's vocals on the title track "Kontrollverlust" are telling a story about love and sorrow at the same time. Visions, fantasy, the whole longplayer is full of emotions. 

"Hats Off" starts with a bleeping and continues softly and peacefully. A perfect club tune followed by "Sienka" with this little extra of funk. So now "Better Be Nice" while dark basses are crashing in and techno tunes make their way. After "Tailwind" and "Radio Star" you remember that darkness gets always replaced by sunlight. Make your peace and get "Back To Bed" till you recovered and under control. Finally "Prince Charming" guids you to a beautiful place outside. A deep breath and you're ready to go back where you started.
