Exclusive STATUE 'Solidify (Zombies In Miami Remix)'

Australia got its own statue in the electronic music scene, at least if you follow Tom Goud's percussive-influenced project STATUE wherewith the artist released EPs on Fort Romeau's label Cin Cin and Cut Copy's Cutters Records. Now the artist releases his new piece of work on V's imprint Le Temps Perdu. The five tracker comes with two original tracks and three remixes including Christian S and Mexican duo Zombies In Miami, who are slowly taking over the scene with releases and remixes on labels such as Correspondant, Cin Cin, Permanent Vacation or Love On The Rocks. It's their versatility and ability to combine soundscapes and elements from different genres in one track - namely techno, rock, disco and indie-dance and so it's no surprise the duo adds their trademark sound to STATUE's 'Solidify' track. As Zombies In Miami adapt the original track's vocal they build their New Wave-influenced instrumental around it and seize slight Acid bleeps as well as cow-bells. Overall Canibal and Jenice alias Zombies In Miami make clear why they are currently at the top of their game delivering a proper dance floor remix that surely will find its way into clubs like Berghain, Opium or Robert Johnson – without being rejected by the bouncer(s).

EXCLUSIVE: STATUE - Solidify (Zombies In Miami Remix) [Le Temps Perdu]

Valentine's Day 2020 will be a special one for Nein Records who serve up a new EP from Italian-born, London-based DJ and producer Dario Dea with remixes from Theus Mago and Steady State. Dea has been in the scene for a decade, mixing up afro-house infused rhythms and heavy-hitting Italo disco basslines with house and techno. His love of blues and rock also informs his sounds with his previous releases having had support by the likes of Joris Voorn, Mind Against and Lehar. The artist says he started working on this record while moving from Dubai to London. ​"This move had a big influence on my music and I spent over six months trying to arrange my thoughts and feelings into music and this was the result." The excellent 'Dance of the Sea' opens up with a seven minute synth journey to the cosmos. Italo style chords bring future retro feelings to the far sighted disco grooves and the whole thing brims with rather melancholic emotion. 'Ready Player One' is a more dark and edgy affair thanks to the turbulent bass and thunderous claps, the lead synths are pained too, adding another dimension to this futuristic bit of dark disco. The release is completed by a pair of superb remixes, opening with a real killer by Theus Mago, the alter ego of established Mexican producer Mateo González, who is responsible for dance music projects such as Bufi (Kitsuné/Discotexas), Sonido Fantasma (Turbo Recordings) and co-head of the Duro label. His version is built on a relentlessly rugged bassline that rumbles away under wild synths and off-grid percussion. Steady State is the second remixer, a mysterious production project about which nothing is known. They serve up a more introverted take on 'Dance of the Sea' that is awash with lush pads and chords and journeys to the stars on a more dreamy vibe. These are four fantastically varied disco styles that all brim with quality and character.

As soon as we realized just how serious the COVID19 situation was, all of us here at AEON Towers felt strongly that we must try to do something to help.

The virus had put an end to all live events so putting on an AEON party for charity wasn’t an option. With that in mind we felt we should do something around the label. It was also important to us to involve our AEON family too which is why the obvious answer was to open up some of our catalogue by way of a remix competition, with the winning remixes being released and all the profit being donated to the WHO COVID19 Response Fund.

We were mind blown and humbled by, not only the number of remixes that were submitted, but also the high quality of the music. It made choosing the best ones a very difficult task. We think we chose the best ones though, and we will release the results on July 3rd via Bandcamp only.

To those of you who can afford it, please dig deep and help us raise some money for a very good cause!

A special thanks goes to everyone who worked for free on this project permitting us to collect every cent only for charity!

Penrose returns for the all-important 002. This one comes courtesy of Silicodisco. You may recognise him from recent Ombra outings. With fresh releases on the horizon with Rotten City and Roam Recordings; the Spaniard kicks off a busy summer with three incredible originals here for David Ponziano’s burgeoning Penrose label.

First up is ‘Angel Of Urano’. Taking us deep into the dancefloor where bluesy chords and a sexy, cat-like bassline create the feeling that you’re floating just an inch or two off the ground. ‘Ice Blue’ bounces between planets on a bassline made of pure electroid titanium and a groove crunchier than rusty space debris, the real pay-off is the trippy breakdown mid-way as molten synths whisk us into a fast lane we didn’t even know existed. ‘4 Only’ is a gnarled slab of crisp electro-inspired sweatiness. Intense and unrelenting, there’s a distinct early 2000s feel to the groove while the pace and mood have all the sultriness of a 2020 dark disco jam. 

Complete with a super creeper remix from Duro bossman Theus Mago, Penrose continue to show promise as one of this year’s most exciting new labels. Roll on 003!
