Since moving to Amsterdam over a year ago, I’ve become heavily influenced by the Old School / Hard Groove sound that characterises the city’s after-hours sound. I’ve always woven in that vibe with my hard techno mixes but I wanted to create a mix that fully celebrated the atmosphere that I’ve experienced at parties such as @vault-sessions-collective ‘s infamous weekenders in Bret & Radion. 

Beyond this, I wanted to also highlight the many Irish producers who have been pushing a similar groove focused sound. The result is a pure juxtaposition which represents the two locations which underpin my techno fascination. 

The mix originally premiered on the Estonian National Radio station Raadio 2 for Merimell’s “Machine Nation” show.

Today's entry to the Local Selection Mix Series welcomes Galway-based DJ Niall Kelly. The skilled selector has provided us with an hour-long 3-deck recording comprising a whole host of tribal, hypnotic techno tracks from start to finish. 

Niall Kelly marks the 189th entry to the Local Selection Mix Series. He has crafted a sensational mix for our listening pleasure with just shy of 30 stellar selections. Niall boasts an infamous reputation across the West of Ireland as one of the sharpest DJs that they have to offer—garnering support slots for Hector Oaks and Midlands League as well as a slew of local party bookings in the process. Additionally, Niall has earned himself radio appearances on Flirt FM and Project Radio with Kapri-Sun.

Seán began DJing in 2018 and in 2020, began to produce his own tracks which he now releases on his own SoundCloud. 

Sean’s style is heavily influenced by loopy hardgroove techno, favoring the sounds of the 90s and early 2000s, while also incorporating some elements of breakbeat and hard-edged house into his work. This mix features a tasteful blend of old-school tracks, as well as newer electrifying releases from Ireland and Europes hottest artists.

CROWD, a new techno label hailing from Berlin with FJAAK at the head, has just released its debut EP, paying homage to oldschool techno while infusing a contemporary twist that is sure to please listeners of both eras. Produced by the legendary Sterac aka Steve Rachmad, the EP is showcasing the versatility and timelessness of techno. The tracks are based on DAT recordings from the 90s that got carefully crafted, highlighting the pure energy and raw emotion of the genre, always leaving the listener wanting more. The Rave Selekts boss and Techno & Cans resident’s rise to worldwide notoriety has been unprecedentedly quick but most definitely deserved.Since he first emerged he has flexed his production muscles in a big way, showcasing styles across techno, rave, jungle as well as going as far as club house that has attracted the attention of big hitters like Dax J, Mall Grab and even Mixmag, all of whom have touted him on the highest platforms. Having released on his own label Rave Selekts along with fellow Irish talent Casper Hastings and then attracting the glistening ears of Resident Advisor and DJ Mag, who both premiered tracks from his first solo EP that took different aspects of his adolescence in Rush and reimagined them in four tracks that touch on ambient, rave, techno and break beat in what was easily one of the most interesting releases of the year on an international scale.  Following on from the success of his debut vinyl release on Haven last year, his next Haven release is just as banging, but represents a new turn in the young producer’s sound with greater focus on hardcore euphoria, released November 22nd
