Seeking intensity through music? Tune into our first mix by Bethlehem Mulat, also known as Venetta, the Berlin-based DJ and producer who refuses to settle for lukewarm. "Sometimes, when you're exposed to music, it evokes some sort of intensity or plays around tension. You're literally forced to get out of your head." she says.

Mulat's sets, played at the likes of Panorama Bar, Boiler Room, and A Club Called Rhonda, are an exercise in helping listeners break out of rumination cycles and reconnect with the present moment—in other words, a type of therapy. This makes sense in context, given her advocacy work founding the Vancouver Black Therapy and Advocacy Foundation and running it remotely from her adopted home in Berlin.

Her mix for Aeyde, inaugurating our new curated music series, channels some of this emotional catharsis. "With the state of the world, we're all seeking some sort of solace." she says. "With this, I'm just trying to give people a break, something to listen to when you just want to shut everything else out and feel good." Take a listen.

Tune into Aeyde Radio's newest mix, curated by Berlin-based saxophonist and neoclassical artist Bendik Giske. 

His tenor saxophone isn't just an instrument; it's a six-kilo challenge that demands strength, endurance, complex breathwork, and mental stamina to master. It's precisely this form of labor that fuels the openness of the Norwegian musician's most recent self-titled album, an experimental neoclassical work, which he has notably described as the equivalent of "musical full-frontal nudity" because of its stripped-back approach. What results is a record that may be his most labored, yet honest statement yet—a call for close listening.

Off the back of his newest release, Giske is the next guest on Aeyde Radio, invited by the platform's guest editor and Resident Advisor’s Editor-in-Chief Whitney Wei. The critically acclaimed musician curates a mix for Aeyde Radio that enfolds his love of instrumental and ambient music with electronic undertones, inviting listeners into the recesses of his arcane sound world. Listen to Aeyde Radio's newest mix, curated by Berlin-based DJ, performer, expressionist, and visual artist, Nas Tea. Speaking to our guest editor and Resident Advisor’s Editor-in-Chief Whitney Wei, Nas Tea discusses the intention behind her music, and facilitating a space for the collective to dream, to rest, and to unfurl. In her words, “Creating sound for me was always to want to bring people to their deeper self and to let them feel.” Nas Tea curates a playlist for Aeyde Radio that goes deep, lulling the listener into a synesthetic state. Paying homage to her Middle Eastern roots and her classical, ambient, and instrumental influences, this mix is defined by its concert of plucked, reverberating melodies and hypnotic percussion.

Listen to the latest mix from Aeyde Radio, curated by Berlin-based DJ, producer, and record label co-founder, Why Be. With Mix 04, Why Be steps out of his comfort zone. Detouring from his signature propulsive electronics in favor of ambient listening, the Danish multi-hyphenate curates a playlist awash with new age and original soundtracks. Released one month after Lunar New Year, Mix 04 includes South Korean folk music—a nod to Why Be’s birthplace—and an innocuous classic from Henry Mancini, too. On a personal favorite from the playlist, ‘The Plateau Which The Flora of Zephyr Occupies’ from Susumu Yokota, Why Be says “I’m imagining the creator was trying to soundtrack one of those traditional Chinese shadow puppet acts.”

Listen to Mix 05 from Aeyde Radio, curated by London-based DJ and illustrator Anu. With this mix, Anu taps into the yearning of early adolescence and says, “I immediately knew that I wanted to make something that felt grounding and calming.” Rife with field recordings, classical Indian tracks, and an appearance by Grizzly Bear—a nod to her teenage self—her grounded selections evoke the sincere, confessional feel of quickly scribbled diary entries. On a personal favorite from the playlist, ‘Bala Main Bairagan Hoongi’ from Ravi Shankar, Anu says, “This one sounds like home. The drums! (+ Jai Paul samples this in Str8 Outta Mumbai).”

Aeyde Radio Mix 06 is broadcasting now. Curated by series guest editor Whitney Wei, Mix 06 sees Berlin-based electronic musician, composer, and pianist David August take the helm. Speaking to Wei about the playlist in his accompanying interview on Aeyde Magazin, August says this playlist revels in the ease of quotidian, freeform listening, “...it is really about enjoying music that is spreading an atmosphere you feel comfortable in.”

i thought it important to stay true to the emotions that birthed seed. so the first one is from me 

i found this process very difficult, got stuck in the headspace of wanting to make it a good ‘mix’ but it just not working while staying true to these feelings. and i realised that it’s not meant to be make sense, feeling these emotions simultaneously is jarring, it’s abrupt highs and lows, it’s stop and start, it’s silence. cold and warm. it’s the meddling of flow following slight cohesion- conflicting. it’s disrupted diversions into altering soundscapes

i had a go at this a few times, and this version was my last attempt. i cried the whole way through and it was on that very spicy full moon, it’s raw- but it’s honest

Detroit’s Craig Gonzalez was drawn to vinyl from a young age, captivated by hip hop and the underground party scene of the 1990s. This fascination quickly evolved into a lifelong passion for DJing, driven by a desire to weave rhythmic layers into compelling, personal stories. 

A self-taught artist, Gonzalez’s collection spans the rich musical evolution of Detroit, including techno, house, hip hop, funk, dnb, and a diverse range of other genres. His skills were further honed during his residency at Solar in Ann Arbor, where he shared the decks with renowned artists. Gonzalez has also been a frequent fixture at Movement and other major local events, where he’s shared the stage with legends in the electronic music scene. Since 2022, he has been a resident DJ for the Third Thursday monthly event by Paxahau, further cementing his presence in Detroit’s vibrant nightlife scene. 

Deeply influenced by the musical depth of Detroit and the hypnotic craft of global artists, Gonzalez’s style reflects a rich, interconnected network of like-minded creators. His connection to family, history, and the culture surrounding electronic music gives his sets a profound sensibility, effortlessly translating onto the dance floor.

D-grade sees off Saturday and the Robotic Sounds takeover with a headsy mix of illbient, downtempo dub-tek and general washy leftfieldism. It's a slow-paced but well evolved and  entrancing pool of naturalist sonics and spacey atmospheres. Features bits from Mistareez, Sciama, and Klofink to name a few.

Today’s Deep Mind Music entry is a trip through the depths of the earth from Shoal 🌘🌙

Listening to this set I was transported into another realm of being, taken by the hand through the mists of time, into the molten core of the earth. A transmission from the collective unconsciousness of mankind, sinking into the faded memories of our ancestors. Megalithic drones contrast with intricate moments of delicate celestial harmony, as iridescent shimmers of light glint into a shadowed cave. As the mix concludes, we softly re-emerge, floating on a blanket of rainbow-hued clouds ✨🤍

This mix is a live set made entirely of music composed by Shoal, formed from a series of recordings. It features field recordings captured in Japan, as well as a jam session with flute (Urosh), contrabass (Julian Tjon Sack Kie), and sound exploring a tam-tam gong, all collaged together. Thank you Shoal for this moving and evocative journey taking listeners through the primordial beyond 🌌💠🌀
