AFFECT! - Different Sides

Save Us Records proclaim their fifth release, with a three track EP by Affect!. Comprising of one original and two remixes, one each from Nick Devon and Kris Davis, ‘Akaria” upholds the quality of music that has now become synonymous with the label.
‘Akaria’ is the type of track that allows your mind to wander and never return. The sound is wholesome and seductive, with its dubbed chugging bass line and subtle breakdowns, which all flow effortlessly amongst a cascade of melodies and synth chords. 
Nick Devon hits things a little harder for his remix of ‘Akaria’. The synth chords are racier and the bass line is much tougher, creating a tension that is both electric and formidable. The full brunt of this remix however, sits with its dark percussive intricacies, which are layered seamlessly into Nick’s signature sound.
The final remix on the EP comes from Kris Davis. Imposing his own imprint upon ‘Akaria’, led Kris to really draw out the extremity of the strings, as well as the relentless nature of the tracks overall vibe. He manages to balance perfectly the melancholy of the original and the darkness within Nick’s remix.

Finally, First Editions closes with another reinterpretation of KatrinKa's Echo Gnomic, this time by Berlin-based AFFECT! (Moodmusic, Save Us) who ends this first issue of the compilation by delivering a drifting, dreamy edition of the original.

We had wanted to nab AFFECT! for a release for quite some time. As fans of his productions on Moodmusic, Crossfrontier Audio and Save Us, we felt his super ingeniously tight grooves and warm synth lines will fit perfectly on our label.
“Quento” is all about luscious melodies, powerful percussions and dreamy synths that build an epic momentum. On the remix duty we have none other than Jamie Stevens (
founding member of
celebrated, Australian award-winning live
electronica act “Infusion”) and also Cologne’s best-
kept secret “Tim Engelhardt”.
Jamie has slowly been building his own profile
through releases on established labels like
Bedrock, microCastle, Chameleon and Tulipa,
while Tim has been releasing music on Steve Bug’s
“Poker Flat Recordings” and Robert Babicz’s
“Babiczstyle”.
Jamie's remix is a slice of transcendental effervescence that successfully manages to set the mood right. Rolling bassline, infectious synth
hooks, hypnotic pads? Most likely sonic hypnosis will occur.
On the flip side, Tim’s remix builds nicely with epic synths, industrial stabs and crisp percussions. Deep, warm keys help carry the melody while Tim injects plenty of groove to take things into another dimension.

AFFECT! - Quento (Original Mix)

Currently in a fine run of form, Sasse’s Moodmusic label looks to Affect! for its next EP. He
has appeared on this label before now and this time cooks up three more sumptuous
tracks designed for both emotional and physical impact.
Affect! is Hamburg’s Jacques Müller, someone who has been active for a few years now
as a producer and who is a resident DJ at Villa Nova in Hamburg. Here he delivers three
slices of his ultra slick, well produced spaced-out, semi balearic, yet mind blowing and
bassbin rolling deep house.
The magical ‘Inventio’ opens up things with spiritual pads rippling above a lazy mid tempo
kick. Those big, inviting drums are a rich bed off which arcing pads and modulated
patterns all unfold. Unhurried and musical, absorbing and rich in design, it is a stunning
opener.
The perfect late night experience that is ‘Calyndra’ is just as exquisite with its pixel thin
synths imbuing the deep house beats with real emotion. Rough claps, spritely grooves and
a certain sense of sombreness all characterise this one and continue to suck you in from
the first beat to the very last.
Last but not least, ‘Aetas’ is another truly moving concoction with starry night sky melodies
unfolding peacefully over long legged drums, arcing synth lines and loveably downbeat
drums. It is an atmospheric track that is expansive yet insular and is masterfully well
balanced.
Once again Moodmusic lead from the front and prove that deep house can be soulful,
musical and truly refreshing.

Anathema Records is back with “Veritas”, the second release which brings fresh deep house sounds from German artists Jacques Muller, also known as Affect! Jacques’ production skills have led him to release music on well known and respected imprints, such as Moodmusic Records, Crossfrontier Audio, and Save Us, just to name a few. Affect! Is teaming up with Thyladomid, and Philipp Kempnich for two incredible throbbing remixes.

The first track giving the title to the EP, “Veritas”, is a masterpiece by Affect! That includes a majestic vocal accompanied by a transcendent arps groove making it a versatile piece or art. Then, “Kilia”, starts with building up a cozy mood with a drum groove followed by mesmerizing synths, and warm pads reaching its climax with an ambitious and harmonious bass line. T

In the last part of the EP, we have Thyladomid remixing “Veritas” with a more techy sound turning the masterpiece to something deeper at the time of testing it on the dance floor. And last but not least, Philipp Kempnich transforms “Kilia” to otherworldly atmospheres resting on top of a steady, infectious bass line.

AFFECT! - Veritas (Original Mix) / ANATH002

With great anticipation co label owner Renato finally drops his debut EP on Chocolat Records in emphatic style. A two track EP “Flori” including a remix from AFFECT!

We open the EP with the title track Flori. With double kicks and an ominous arp Renato starts us off enticing our senses. The lead baseline is introduced with a calming attitude as the grooving percussion builds, as we lead into the break this groover is determined as new arps are introduced and the lead synth takes the stage. The composition keeps one engaged with automated elements at every turn, harmonious in it's natural state, “Flori" has an undeniable flow with sounds that can not be better suited for one another. An intelligent and classy dance floor energizer that will have one throwing their hips into a journey.

Next in line “Terra” joins “Flori" in Renato’s offering. Terra starts off with an airiness and a sense of wonder until we are reminded it's time to get the body moving with a solid kick and two swaying arps. A deep lying baseline holds the movement together, while the percussion progresses. That sense of wonder is revisited with the lead synth singing a sweet melody as other synths and arps pan and automate beautifully in the foreground. The type of number to enjoy for a different reason every time.

The later is AFFECT!’s take on Renato’s “Flori”. Without hesitation we jump straight in with the main arp and a teasing kick, hat combination. As we build up to the break other arps are introduced along with the lead synth as we approach the first drop with a deep saw baseline. The lazy percussion promotes much groove as this remix progresses. Harmonies are later introduced with new elements in this wonderful take on Renato’s “Flori”.
