She is going to share about a time when she went through years of chronic pain, and also when she lost several family members in a span of 2 months! Misael Gonzalez is the Bilingual Teaching Pastor of First Baptist Church of Owasso.  He graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University and joined the staff of our church. Misael is an answer to prayer and is helping our church expand the reach of the gospel in our community. He is the point leader for the Tulsa Campus of First Baptist Owasso, located at 7216 E Admiral Place in Tulsa.
Misael's story is something you are going to want to hear.  He had a pivotal moment in his life at 16 which strangely and beautifully coincided with his mother's story from when she was 16! The way God has interwoven this story is phenomenal!
He will also talk about a situation of domestic violence that happened to a member of his family.  He is very honest and raw about his feelings concerning this difficult time, and how it has affected his entire family.  He reminds us that God does not waste our pain, and He still works through the darkness.

Alzheimers is a cruel disease.  It is so difficult to watch a loved one succumb to such a thing.  Anyone who has ever had to witness someone they love suffer it can understand the sadness of watching as it takes hold.
Abbe Belcher shares with us her journey of loving and serving her parents in the last seasons of their lives.  Abbe's family took her parents in to live with them for 17 years.  On top of that, her mother was blind!  Through all of these challenges they created a beautiful family and household of generations taking care of each other.
Abbe tackles life with humility and humor.  She is a phenomenal Bible teacher and has started teaching a class of Holy Yoga at Midtown Yoga, Owasso.  You are going to love her!

Cami Kasterke has a beautiful story!  She and Lester have been married for 24 years.  They have a beautiful family with three girls.  The road to get there, however, was difficult.  Cami found out at an early age that getting pregnant may not be possible due to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).  Being a Labor and Delivery nurse put this diagnosis foremost in her thoughts all day, every day.  It was a journey that was painful.  They decided to go the route of in vitro fertilization.  This took months of hormone treatments and then having eggs implanted and then frozen.  
Because of this process, she now has her Hope, Hannah, and Hadley!  We discuss the emotional toll this took on she and her husband, and also the ethical dilemmas at play when you have frozen eggs that could become little people!  What if they aren't all used?  What do you do?  
Cami has also worked as a school nurse and now works in hospice care.  We are grateful for her giving to others in her field and for her story of hope.

Hey, friends, it’s our 100th Episode!!!! We are so excited to have reached this mark!  We are also very excited to have our guest for today….Christy Nockels!  Can you even believe it?!?
Christy has been a worship leader, singer, and songwriter for several decades.  She also has her own podcast, Glorious in the Mundane.  If that’s not enough, she has a book she’s written called, The Life You Long For, and has a new album close to release.
Christy shared with us about her scary season of being faced with  hearing loss after a virus. This hearing loss was thought to be permanent; however, God is still the God of miracles! She shares her journey with us today, and we are so thankful for her heart for the Lord and how He has used her gifts for His glory.

Christy Nockels Biography:
As a worship leader for over 25 years, Christy Nockels would tell you that her heart is to simply lead others to connect and communicate with the living God. Christy began writing music and singing in the church at a young age, as the daughter of a pastor in Oklahoma. She met musician, Nathan Nockels, in 1993 at the Christian Artist Seminar in Estes Park, Colorado and the two married in 1995. The couple would form the Christian music duo, Watermark, touring nationwide and
recording five acclaimed albums, including seven number one radio singles from 1998 to 2005, before laying down their Watermark journey for the sake of their family. Christy and Nathan were also among those invited by Louie and Shelley Giglio to be a part of the very first Passion Conference in Austin, TX, in 1997, which flourished into a fruitful twenty years of the couple songwriting and leading for the Passion Movement. Christy’s voice and heart can be heard on songs like, “Waiting Here For
You,” as well as her songwriting featured on church anthems like, “Lord, I Need You,” and “Healing is in Your Hands.”
Christy now records for Keeper’s Branch Records, the couple’s independent record label, where they’ve enjoyed releasing fan-favorites like Be Held; Lullabies for the Beloved. Christy also launched a podcast in 2016 called, “The Glorious in the Mundane,” which is intentionally focused on helping women in any season of life, find the wonder and awe of God in the moments of the here and now. Christy and Nathan live in Franklin, TN where they love to gather around the farm
table and even make music with their three children, Noah, Elliana and Annie Rose. They also love to spend time making their home, affectionally called Keeper’s Branch, a place of rest for all who gather there.

EP 103, Julie Largent, A Frayed Knot*

LaShane Hill is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and Director of OBU’s Kemp Marriage Family Therapy Program and a member of a group practice providing care through her private practice.  She has spent 25 years in ministry and has devoted her life to helping others work through their trauma. Y'all, I literally cried through half of this episode. LaShane has had to work through her own personal trauma. As a child, she was raised in a home with enormous violence and witnessed a horrible fight between her parents. Trigger warning, this episode does contain talk of domestic abuse. After her parents' divorce and moving away from her father, she struggled with significant depression. However, she had a praying grandmother.  Dealing with all of life’s traumas caused LaShane to have bouts of depression and suicidal ideations. We do talk about this as well, and how as she got closer to Jesus and deeper in her faith, it started to worsen. She did not understand at the time that this was a spiritual attack. You will hear a major turning point from an ultimatum that became truly life-altering. This is one not to miss!

This story today is so precious!  We are excited to welcome Lori Beth Fowble!  Lori Beth is married to Arin and, between them, they have four children.  
Lori Beth teaches us what it means to have the audacity to hope again!  After going through a devastating divorce that rocked her world, she eventually reconnected with an old friend who helped spark that hope.  She shares her heart openly and is vulnerable about not wanting to walk through this pain, but understanding that Jesus also had to walk through pain He didn't necessarily want to walk through.  If God never wastes our pain, then we shouldn't either.
She is a great example of "holding the lantern" for others going through similar burdens in which we can use our experiences to help. You don't always move on from things, but you move forward.  You are going to be encouraged by her words.

EP 130, Niki White, A Frayed Knot

Imagine living in a place you love, in a community you adore, when you are told suddenly one day you can’t live there anymore. You are ushered out in a matter of days.  That is what happened to Melissa Robinson and her family when they were working as field workers for a sending organization on a small island.  The new government decided they were no longer welcome.
Chris and Melissa Robinson and their three boys now live and work in Latvia.  It is an interesting, exciting place that we don’t often hear about in the USA.  Melissa has used her gift of playing guitar and singing Latvian music to invite their community members to attend house music concerts in their home. She shares the gospel in song and finds open doors for sharing Christ through music. She also volunteers for Lighthouse Latvia- an organization that cares for people who have aged out of their school system.  Additionally, Melissa and two of her friends have collaborated to create a podcast together called "It’s Tea Time Somewhere". The Robinson family has a story of faithfulness even when questioning what is happening.  It’s very applicable to all of us.

EP 133, Katelyn McCormick, A Frayed Knot

Rhonda McAlister and her husband, Jon, have been married for 35 years and have three sons, three daughters-in-law, three grandsons, and one granddaughter!  She is a Pediatric Physical Therapist and works within schools to help students with special needs.  She has a lot of style and can decorate a room like no other.
Rhonda was adopted as a baby and tells us her story about what it was like to find out that she was adopted at five years of age.  She grew up with amazing parents whom she loves dearly, and for whom she is extremely grateful. She feels so blessed.  They were supportive of her and made her feel special.
Through all of this, she was still interested in meeting her birth mother, to thank her for giving her life and to find out if she knew Christ.  Her mother also used to say she wanted to meet her to thank her.  She got this chance through Ancestry.com when one of Rhonda's sons decided to try it.  It became an amazing story that you can hear today.

EP 134, Rhonda McAlister, A Frayed Knot*

Where do we start with this guest?  She has been a pillar of strength and an example of love and grace.  We are so in awe of her and excited for you to hear her story of redemption.  
Jennifer Beardslee is a dear friend to both of us!  She and her husband, Bobby, have been married for 10 months.  She has three amazing kids and one daughter-in-law: Camden and his wife, Maddie, Ryleigh and Valerie.  
In 2016 her life was hit with several bombs.  In March, her very young nephew passed away.  In June, she found out her marriage was in trouble, and she tried  with all her strength to work it out for several months before he left.  In March of 2017 she got the “pink letter” and found out she had breast cancer.  To say this woman has been through it is an understatement.
Her story doesn’t end there!  She tells us the scars are always there, but they fade.  We talk about being refined in the fire.  He has restored what the locusts had stolen!

Hunter Wadlington is the Director of Programs at the Mission Community Resource Center in Owasso.  She is so vital to helping those in need with resources and has added so much to the program.  Her road to getting there is part of what we talk about.  Sometimes our roads are not linear and we don't know where they will end up.
Hunter and her husband, Christien, have been married for a little over two years.  They met in their freshman year of high school and stayed best friends for ten years before realizing they were meant for each other!  They are an amazing couple who help serve their community in Tulsa, OK.
Hunter is originally from Virginia and her story of getting to Oklahoma is interesting with lots of turns.  God had a plan the whole time, from the degree she wasn't sure what to do with, to her 
reluctance in moving to Owasso.  Hunter's story encourages us to simply say "yes" to God.

Kelley La Marr is the sweetest!  She is the Ministry Assistant for the Preschool Ministry at First Baptist Church of Owasso.  She loves serving the staff and the little ones.  She is a great addition to the ministry!
Kelley was adopted as a child and raised with a wonderful family.  She grew up, married the love of her life, Rocky, and had two children.  Then in 2016 she had the joy of meeting eight out of her twelve blood-related brothers and sisters!
However, 2016 ended up being a rough year for her.  Four months after her joyous reunion with her birth family, her husband suddenly passed away.  They had been married for 32 years and had built a wonderful life together.  She also had several other close relatives pass away soon after that in a very short amount of time.  It was grief upon grief.  Yet, she carried on.
Kelley talks about grief and what happens when it is pushed down, eventually it has to show.  She also discusses how she took care of others and provided a place of respite for others during this difficult time.  She is an example of love and keeping open hands. She encourages all of us to minister to the one person that God places in your life each day, however small that may appear. It is not small to God.

Jessica Callahan has such a fascinating story!  When she was five years old, her father was arrested and imprisoned.  During his incarceration, he learned about Jesus and gave his life to the Lord.  This changed the whole trajectory of his life! 
 Jessica and I (Jill) met while serving at God Behind Bars, a ministry that goes into prisons to share the gospel with those behind bars.  When I heard her story of why she serves, I knew we needed to have her tell her story.  She also helps lead worship once a month when going into the prison.
Jessica joined the Navy and served for 12 years.  She is very adventurous and tells us about her love for skydiving which she has been doing since 2008.  She is a go-getter and loves being in the air!
The main thing she shares today is about overcoming a dependence on alcohol.  This was a tough journey as she began to realize she was using it to cope and to self-medicate.  There was pain she was numbing and needed to finally come to grips with.  It forced her to become humble and search for help.  Though not an easy road, she is now 861 days sober!  You are going to love her and her story!

Evelyn Kwanza is an inspiring vocal music teacher who was the 2018-2019 District Teacher of the Year for Owasso Public Schools!  She is a wife, mom, and a student pursuing her doctorate in music education.  In her story Evelyn shares a time she went through some scary moments as a mom, when her son was having seizures. This episode of A Frayed Knot shows how real Colossians 1:17 is: "He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together." God has shown Himself to be so faithful in holding things together for our guest, Brenda Liniger. She candidly shares her story with us, opening up and being vulnerable so that God can use her life to bless others.  She is such a fun and real person.  You all will love how authentic she is.  We talk about her growing up in a Catholic family, but not really ever opening the Word or understanding anything about it.  She didn’t meet Jesus until after she was grown and married.  Brenda shares that there are hard things in marriage, but it is still good to push through that with your spouse. We talk about shame and what that does to a person; in particular, Brenda opens up about the shame she dealt with after a sexual assault in her teens..  It’s an important message.

Brenda also shares with us that, although her parents are wonderful grandparents to her children, she has painful memories of her growing up years.  She loves her parents and appreciates them very much, and prays for God to bring all of her family closer. It's something many people may identify with. You may have walked a similar road, and Brenda's story is for you.

EP 035, Brenda Liniger, A Frayed Knot

Dear listeners, this conversation was recorded before we entered the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope and pray that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy during this time of quarantine.  We also wanted to continue to send uplifting and encouraging stories of how God gets us through our knots and frayed times.  We hope this story will remind you that God is with you and can still give you joy in the midst of trials.

Kim Cusimano has been through it!  She and her husband, Joe, have four children between the ages of 16 and 23.  They were all four adopted from Korea.  Joe and Kim's journey to adopt these children and the challenges in raising them have been anything but easy, but through it all, God has shown Himself powerful and present.  Two of their four children have severe needs, one emotional/mental, one physical/developmental.
This journey takes us through adoption, uncertainty and loving wonderful kids who have special needs.  There is something for everyone in it.  Kim has also followed the Lord's leading in creating a website and a place of respite and encouragement to other families dealing with these sorts of situations.  We love her heart and her willingness to obey God, even in the hard places. She chooses joy, and she reminds us that we can, too.

Continuing on with our series on the Enneagram, we are going to look deeper at the Twos, Threes, and Fours.  This is the Feelings Triad, meaning these people are feeling-dominant.  They are warm, creative, and complex. Our three interviewees share candidly with us how they see the world. 
Mattie Johnston is a Two.  Her need is to be appreciated and be a Helper to those around her.  Twos have a servant heart and want to meet the needs of others.  
Eric Wall is a Three.  Threes' ability to achieve and perform is their biggest motivator.  Threes feel a need to be acknowledged for their accomplishments.  They are creative and go-getters.  When they have a goal, they get it done!
Quinn McCormick is a Four.  Fours are probably the most complex type on the Enneagram.  Fours are extremely creative and unique.  There is a sense of melancholy underneath the surface that they are comfortable with, and they bring texture and color to the world.

EP 045, Enneagram Numbers 2, 3, 4

Today is our last episode in our Enneagram Series!  We will cover the Gut Triad: Enneagram Types 8, 9, and 1.  These numbers are intuitive and draw from their innate ability to make decisions. They are also called the Anger Triad, and each type deals with anger in a different way.
Terri Vaughn is representing our Eights.  She is assertive, decisive, and a challenger.  If there is a move that needs to be made, she will do it.  Eights are for justice, fairness, and looking out for their own.  They are tough on the outside, soft on the inside.
Our very own Robin Wall is our Nine.  Nines are peacekeepers.  They do not like conflict.  They can see every side to a problem.  Nines often have a hard time finding their type because they relate to every type! They would like for everyone to get along.
Amy Simons is our One.  Ones are the perfectionists or reformists.  They see what needs to be fixed and fix it.  They have to deal with an inner critic that tells them what is wrong and what needs to be corrected.  When they say they will do something, they do it.

EP 047, Enneagram 8, 9, 1

If you've ever had chronic pain and wondered how you would ever make it through the valley, this episode is for you!  And, if you haven't... it's still for you! None of us knows what's around the corner, and there will certainly be a time that we will relate to this story in our personal lives or in the lives of our loved ones.
Desha Clawson has been married to her husband, Casey, for 40 years. They have four sons and two daughters-in-law.  She is so amazing and someone Robin and Jill desire to emulate!
Last year, she had been dealing with TMJ and went to have it checked out.  It turned out that she needed a partial jaw replacement.  If you've ever had mouth pain, you know it is all-consuming.  At this same time, she was dealing with sciatic pain from a previous rollerblading accident!  (How much do we love that she rollerblades?)  The pain became so severe that she found herself having confusing thoughts about ending things permanently.  Thankfully, she reached out to Jesus and he provided a way out.  She gives us great lessons on what her take-away lessons were from the whole experience from which we can all benefit. What a great reminder of God's faithfulness toward all of us!

EP 053, Desha Clawson, A Frayed Knot

Happy Belated Valentine's Day, everyone!!!
Let's talk marriage and relationships. Janet Dance and her husband, Mark, have spent years ministering to married couples.  Mark is currently serving in Pastoral Development for Oklahoma Baptist Ministers, and formerly served with Lifeway and pastored several churches.  Janet has been by his side every step of the way. They have been married for 33 years and have two grown children.  We get to talk to Janet all about this today.
Janet wears many hats and is a talented jack of all trades.  She has been a teacher, a dietician, a seamstress, taught at a university, is currently a realtor!  What an overachiever! (Enneagram 3, y'all).
One of the things we talk about is what it's like to grow up as a Preacher's Kid (a.k.a.: P.K.) and the pressures that can come with that.  Janet went through some hard things in regards to finding herself and not just being what she thought others expected her to be.  (Heads-up: there is some discussion on cutting.)
Her passion is for marriages and making them work.  She gives us some great ideas for working on our marriages.  If you aren't married, stick around and check this out!  This is good relationship advice.  
1.  Connect every day.
2. Date weekly; never stop dating.
3. Get away at least once a year.
4. Fight it out...fight for your marriage to be great.
