AfricaNow! May 3, 2023 We Have the Right to Justice 

Topic and Guests: As we commemorate International Workers Day the show features a portion of a discussion with Abdul Alkalimat, Member of the Advisory Board of Communiversity, an education partner of Black Workers for Justice; Bryce Carter Vice President of UE local 150, the North Carolina Public Service Workers Union, member of Black Workers for Justice; and D. Noble, Cultural Activist. The moderator of the session is Tasneem Siddiqui member of Communiversity, an education partner of Black Workers for Justice, and of course she part of AfricaNow!’s and Africa World Now Project’s Collective. The discussion is from a nine-part series that explored and discussed the role and demands of workers. The series was presented by the Communiversity in collaboration with Black Workers for Justice and the Southern Workers Assembly focusing on the nine points of the Southern Workers Power Program. The session which the show focuses on is the fourth point of the Southern Workers Power Program which is: Point 4: WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO JUSTICE, THEREFORE WE DEMAND: A] An end to discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability and immigration status in all public arenas including policing, child protective services, healthcare, housing policy, education policy, and employment practices; B] Reparations for Black and Indigenous People.  

The intention of this series was to explore and closely examine the SWA [Southern Workers Assembly] Southern Worker Power Program as a platform from which collective worker power can be consolidated and extended. Centering the Southern worker, it is the expressed objective of these sessions to build a comprehensive and radical workers program against the explicit efforts of the current fascist tendencies, within and without the U.S. sociopolitical structures of authority.
