The lyrical voices of the Canaan Gents and the profound tone of Afro soul artist Kenneth Mugabi blend beautifully to bring you the song, ‘Kyekunkuna’.  ‘Kyekunkuna’ is derived from the Luganda word ‘Okukunkuna’ which describes the manner in which a sheep nods its head when it is walking. 
This beautiful song penned by Kenneth Mugabi tells the story of the pain of a married man who like the sheep, is nodding his head. The woes of a failing marriage have knocked him down. He nods his head, jeers and laments about the disappointment his wife is turning out to be. ‘Aneemye’ he says. She has left him bewildered. ‘Nkole ntya?’ he cries out to his friend. What can he do? 
Marriage is for life and yet his bride, the very apple of his eye is a far cry from what he envisioned her to be. She is lazy and the home they share is falling apart before his very eyes.  Amidst all this, he despairs. ‘Munyambe’. In his mind, he considers taking the path of least resistance by forsaking his current wife and marrying a woman who will lovingly care for him and fulfil her wifely duties. A woman who he feels will bring joy anew into his heart.
The perspective changes when the friend of his to whom he confides makes a gentle plea, ‘Gguma, bijja teleela’, to every complaint that he raises. He encourages him that all that he is going through will be fine just as long as he commits his marriage into Gods hands. ‘Kyekunkuna’ touches on our need to make God the centerpiece of our marriages and the need to persevere and not call it quits when things go awry.
The beautiful song ‘Kyekunkuna’ by the Canaan Gents and Kenneth Mugabi is surely a thing to behold.
