New to the DJing world, our resident DJ Sarah Jane Riegler has spent most of her life as a professional drummer/percussionist. She began studying traditional West African percussion a decade ago, but her love for popular African music started in 2011 while she was studying music and dance at the University of Ghana. 

While out in the clubs in Accra, she was instantly hooked when hearing afrobeats artists like Wande Coal, P-Square, and R2Bees and has been exploring popular music from all over the continent ever since! Volume XIX: Nina Hwata

Having lived in the US, Canada, Australia, the UK, Sudan, and the Middle East, Sudanese-Canadian DJ Lovebonez started her DJ journey in London, UK soaking in all of the African and Caribbean sounds before moving back to Toronto to ride the waves of the burgeoning afro scene here!

Lovebonez also writes and manages projects with Children of the Dark Continent-- a media platform that promotes all positive things relating to Africa and the diaspora! Damn girl!

This week she brings us a mix that is a beautiful tour of South Africa--exploring the deep melodies and driving rhythms of afrohouse and afrotech. Enjoy!

What started as a simple idea in February 2018 has turned into a vibrant, beautiful community where people know they can have a safe space to express, release, and GET DOWN to the grooviest, freshest dance music coming out of Sub-Saharan Africa & her diaspora!

We've created something totally different in Toronto--breathing a fresh new vibe into the city that was much needed: No screw faces. No stushness. Just bare vibes. 

Aside from the party, we also created this SoundCloud page to capture the music, vibe, and energy of our party so we could share it all over the world as well as give folks in Toronto something they could groove to in between parties! 

For this edition, Afro Haus founder, curator, and resident DJ Sarah Jane Riegler showcases a whole mashup of sounds inspired by Southern African sounds: gqom meets trap; Kendrick Lamar meets afrohouse; old classics from the likes of Culoe de Song; brand new tracks from Black Motion; and a gnarly, grimey, fast-paced 20-minute spree of South Africa's hottest gqom tracks.

This week's guest DJ is Kill Them With Colour, an inspired term to describe vibrant art that takes a form of music, as if the spectrum of sound can be visualized in colour. With countless #1’s on HypeMachine, a Juno nomination for "Dance Recording of The Year" and over 30 million combined views and listens on Spotify, Youtube and SoundCloud, we are so hyped to have KTWC come through!

Growing up in France & Trinidad, Wes (KTWC) would collect and mix dancehall and reggae around the Island. After his music studies, it evolved to Electronic and matured to its present day free-form. What started out as a fascination for music at a young age, soon grew into an interest in the recording process, which then led into production and mixing. Kill Them With Colour has produced a variety of remixes and original tracks that juxtapose from chill and wavy, to bass thumping sounds.

SoulSis Aiesha was born to Carribean parents in Montreal, moved to New Brunswick as a baby, lived in South Africa for 11 years, and has finally made Toronto her home. In this eclectic mix, she pays homage to some of her favourite producers in the South African house and gqom scene, while weaving in a few melodic deep house tracks and a bass-heavy banger.
