Bring Your Love To Me - Acoustic Version

This song is very personal, but I know its topic is not unique to me. And after nearly 2 years of increased isolation for the world, the matter is more pertinent than ever.

Many people deal with anxiety, depression, or other mental struggles, though no one teaches you how to support a loved one experiencing challenges. In these situations, the first impulse can be to offer possible solutions or try to actively do something. But oftentimes you can’t fix what’s wrong, no matter how hard you want to. So against the many good-willed motives to help or act, sometimes the best thing that you can do is just be there, be patient, and listen. I wrote this feeling down and it turned into this song. I hope that it can speak to you the way it did to me. So no matter how many times we mess up trying to solve the problem or help too much, we will learn and get better and be there. Someone sees you. Someone hears you.

I made this track for the Harmonai Production Challenge (May 2023). The challenge required submitting a track that utilized AI-generated audio from the community project Dance Diffusion (a family of audio-generating machine learning models).

Dance Diffusion has several functionalities, one of which is "style transfer", which takes an input audio sample and performs diffusion to "transfer" it to a different space the model was trained on.

For this song, I heavily used Dance Diffusion's style transfer abilities to create rich textures and ambient pads. I would take a vanilla synth or pad and feed it into Dance Diffusion, tinker with the hyperparameters, and produce beautiful ambient textures for this track. Then I chose my favorite sounds and incorporated them into the song. 

I'm really happy with how it turned out (going for a lofi vibe) and I think it is a great example of how artists and producers can use AI tools to boost creativity.

The inspiration for the name After August comes from two key components:

1. It defines me. I was born on August 17th, 1994, and everything after that August has become the incredible journey that is my life.

2. It signifies the importance of remembering the good parts of life, even in hard times. It reminds us to live after the way you would in the summer on a warm, bright day, it reminds us to live "After August".

After August looks to create music of all kinds, for people of all kinds. Music that is not limited to any genre, that moves people emotionally in life and loss, happy and sad, summer and winter. Everything is composed, played, recorded and produced by yours truly (unless otherwise specified in the title).

I love music and I want to share that love with the world. Enjoy!
