✔️ What are your musical influences?
Very diverse, indeed. My first EP I bought was “die Prinzen” :D. 

In my teenage years, I was high on rock and metal - early stuff from Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit (good old days) to harder stuff like Slipknot and Soulfly. 

Around 18 I started to like hip-hop and rap music. Back then, I was battle rapping and really enjoyed this more aggressive style of rap. Weirdly kind of the same time, I started to enjoy electronic music, house, trance, and progressive psy. 

Moving to Amsterdam and later Berlin, I enjoyed parties like the (for me) groundbreaking Barfuß parties. Then Bar25, Kater Holzig, early days of Sisyphos and of course legendary Berghain. 

My interest in Electronic music peaked, and I have not looked back ever since.
					 							
✔️ What makes good “afterhour”?

 The setting: Think a small clearing in a dark forest, a rooftop bar in Bangkok, a sunrise at an amazing beach party in Poland or in the Caribbean, to a man-made "Strand" somewhere in Berlin (Hauptstrasse 15). 

Bring some chilled drinks, some chill out sounds or some banging techno. Most important is you embrace the moment.
					 							
✔️ Do you have any thoughts you would like to share about your set?

Wildthings Festical: A family, a special group of people. 
Talented musicans, DJs, artists, lovers, givers – just beautiful and inspiring people. Every year we meet at an awesome location at Klingenmühle in Brandenburg to dance, laugh, enjoy. It was a dear and special honor to play the main stage closing this year.
						 							
✔️ What was your experience of the set you recorded?

The whole day it was freaking hot, around 38°. Everyone was tired, and Ligal Tamir was already going hard into the night. I was trying to pick up the pace, and gather all people on the dance floor. It worked – ecstatic moves, happy faces, beautiful, buzzing energy. I still have goosebumps thinking about it. Much love!

✔️ What are your musical influences? What is your musical background?

Metal, Hardcore, Metalcore, Rock and everything else with heavy guitars in it :D

✔️What makes good "afterhour"?

Really good people around me, a Spezi and fresh socks!


✔️ Do you have any thoughts you would like to share about your set?

I'd say it's a 'classic Intaktogene set' - lots of basslines, lots of melodies, quite some vocals but always driving.  I play what I missed the most on dance floors. Music with melodies that touch the heart and a bassline finding it's way right into your bones. Making your feet move even if you're exhausted. 

✔️ What was your experience of the set you recorded?

I love playing at Rote Dichte, it brings together so many different people and I have the sweetest encounters every time. Last year a couple came up to me saying in 25 years of raving they have never cried until my set because it touched them so much. They were there again this year and even brought me a little gift. HOW Sweet is that!

People feeling what I feel whilst I play means the most to me because first of all it's exactly what I try to do 'Musik mit Herz und Wumms' (Music with Heart & Oomph). Secondly - it's so special when there is a floor full of completely different people,  all feeling the same thing for one moment. If we had more of that in the world, many problems would be solved so much easier

✔️ What are your musical influences?

There are too many, of course. For Foulteer definitely people like Martin Stimming, Jan Jelinek, Sutsche, Acid Pauli and NU, Niju, Ninze & Orkaxy or their supergroup Wide Awake. Carlos comes more from the hardcore direction, Joerg actually studied jazz guitar in Frankfurt.

✔️ What is your musical background?

Carlos has been around for a long time and has been part of the scene for many years with his gigs, DJ sets and releases as CaterKarlos. He used to play drums in various bands. Joerg is a musician and has been touring the world with his band Botticelli Baby at festivals and concerts for many years.

✔️ What makes good "afterhour"?

It needs the right people and everything can be a little crazy. Musically, a little more craziness may be allowed. The main thing for us it that it has to be nice, groovy and fluffy, rather less harder, faster, darker.

✔️ What was your experience of the set you recorded?

Just like many festivals this year, the weather was a bit mixed at times. When we played Saturday afternoon at Hilde, there was brilliant sunshine and lots of friends were there. The floor was really beautifully designed and it was so nice to play. It was really a very nice gig.

✔️ Bio:
Carlos and Joerg have been making music together since 2017. Both met in Essen at parties, as well as Beatplantation, Flabbergasted Festival or Chapeau Club at Druckluft in Oberhausen or Goethebunker in Essen. Soon the first live gigs as Foulteer followed and the two started to produce music together and to find a sound. Later followed first releases on Copycow and Akasha Rec or Talpa Records with remixes of idols and friends as well as Niju, Timboletti, Tim Taste or Lui Mafuta.

✔️Was sind deine musikalischen Einflüsse? Was ist dein musikalischer Hintergrund?
 
 Ich habe eigentlich schon immer Musik gemacht. Als Kind ging es in die musikalische Früherziehung, dann habe ich lange Trompete gespielt und in Chören gesungen. Als Jugendlicher habe ich mich dann immer mehr für elektronische Musik interessiert. Daraus ist dann mit der Zeit Herr Zinnober entstanden. Meine musikalischen Einflüsse sind unterschiedlich. Aus der Klassik habe ich etwas Theorie für's Produzieren mitnehmen können. Ich glaube aber auch, dass die Harmonien und Melodieführungen von Bands wie Die Ärzte oder den Prinzen, die ich als Kind viel gehört habe einen großen Einfluss auf meine Musik haben. Elektronisch am meisten geprägt hat mich wahrscheinlich Jonas Saalbach. Seine Herangehensweise an Produktionen hat mich sehr stark inspiriert.

✔️Was macht deiner Meinung nach eine gute Afterhour aus?

 Ganz ehrlich, die besten Afterhours, die ich erlebt habe, haben immer draußen stattgefunden. Nach dem Feiern spontan mit Freund*innen durch die Stadt zu stromern, oder im Park die Sonne zu genießen ist für mich die perfekte Afterhour.

✔️Welche Gedanken magst du uns zu deinem Mix mit auf den Weg geben?
  
Das war mein Samstag Abend auf dem Entropie Festival. Ich habe für meine Verhältnisse recht doll gespielt ("Pah, das ist doch gar nichts!", würden jetzt wahrscheinlich viele sagen). Trotzdem ist es ein typisches Herr Zinnober Set gewesen, denke ich. Hier und da ein wildes Sound-Design, Melodien zum Tagträumen und dreckige Baselines. Also so, wie ich mir einen Samstag Abend auf einem Festival vorstelle ;)

✔️Wie hast du den Gig empfunden?
 
Das Entropie Festival hat, seit ich 2019 dort gespielt habe, einen Platz in meinem Herzen. Die Menschen sind angenehm, es ist politisch und es gibt ein spannendes Programm mit verschiedenen Artists, Bands und Workshops. Ich war mit einigen Friends da, das macht mir immer besonders viel Spaß. Der Gig war dementsprechend toll!

Ab meiner Kindheit lernte ich bis in die Jugend Klavier, Gitarre und Gesang - dazu kamen später noch Chor und einzelne Konzerte mit Bands. Als Teenie schlug mein Interesse von vorrangig indie und alternative dann sehr stark auf elektronische Musik um; Berlin war dabei definitiv sehr prägend und ist es bis heute.

✔️ Was macht deiner Meinung nach eine gute Afterhour aus?

Wenn man einfach nicht schlafen gehen mag und das Gefühl für Raum und Zeit komplett verliert..

✔️Welche Gedanken magst du uns zu deinem Mix mit auf den Weg geben?

Lasst euch am Anfang schön treiben, grooved euch ein, aber keine Garantie, dass ihr dabei still sitzen bleibt :)

✔️ What are your musical Influences?

Over the last 10 years I have tried out a lot of different things musically. I played in bands for a while (guitar, bass and vocals), produced techno, hip hop and ambient and above all I paid a lot of attention to my own indie and folk songs. Electronic influences have always played a big role.

✔️ What makes a good Afterhour?

For me, a good afterhour is a soft landing. Taking people by the hand and creating the possibility to give them a place where they can slowly come to rest.

✔️ Thoughts about the set and the event you played?

The set was an attempt to combine two sides that I love about dancing in one hour. Both the exuberant bouncing and the dreamy swaying with closed eyes. 
The gig was my most intense performance so far. I always feel the atmosphere and the faces of the people when I hear this set. It was really indescribably beautiful.

✔️ What are your musical influences?

Sophie:  I come from a family where classical music was always played and listened to, and  I played  piano & harp during my childhood. I later discovered electronic music, then downtempo music from Germany, and immediately loved it. Today, Ninze and his project Wide Awake are a main source of inspiration for me, but I like to mix different genres in my DJ-Sets.

Damien: I was mainly a huge fan of the 60-70 psychedelic rock or progressive rock but I also loved the blues, soul, disco or Spanish flamenco or French and Italian singer/songwriter. I wanted to be a rockstar at 14 years old and started playing the guitar and the piano. I ended up being a DJ and had the opportunity to play in nice venues. Cool! :)

✔️ What do you think makes a good after-hours?

Being able to offer some change in the dynamic of the party. Giving a fresh air and a new perspective to people to enjoy music in a different way. In our opinion it is often at the end of the parties that the dance floor kinda have a nice unique vibe where you feel that the crowd is really united. 

✔️ What thoughts would you like to share with us about the gig?

It might sound a bit cheesy like those motivation speeches you can hear or read on the internet but in this case we kind of feel it this way. Doing a set together is not always easy, but in the end we really loved the result because it reflects both of us and we really managed to overlap the songs in a very coherent storyline.

It was awesome since we played this set exactly one year to the day after our first b2b at Kitkat Club in Berlin. It was a great honour and pleasure to be reunited again behind the decks to play for the closing of the main stage " Le Cèdre Olympien" at Chateau Perché Festival in France. We would like to thanks all the dancers who made the ride with us and stayed until the early hours of the morning, Christian Kahl for the invitation,  and the Kamiwaza crew for building this amazing stage. And last but not least, we thank Afterhours sounds for including this memorable set in your wonderful Podcast serie. MERCI <3 We hope you can enjoy this recording.

I played most of the songs already at numerous shows during the summer, but I also included two brand new songs, straight outta studio. As I never have played them before, I was a little nervous...

✔️ What thoughts would you like to share with us about the gig?

Jim: "I remember the moment when I went to Kater Blau some years ago. Especially the Heinz Hopper floor got me! The sound, the light and the whole design of the floor is super good and fits perfectly into my imagination of a good floor. It's not too big, neither too small and due to the gallery and some steps it can appear very large when it's packed (and it was!). So for me it was a dream come true to play here. 
The show itself was "like a rausch" - I felt so connected to the moment and the crowd was cheering a lot. But I guess my supportive friends have been cheering the most and I was very lucky to have them with me ;-)

The set includes a lot of unreleased tracks, which will be out very soon. So I'm happy to give a little glimpse of what comes next early 2024."

✔️What are your musical influences? What is your musical background?

For a long time I thought that electronic music wasn't for me, until I realised at my first rave in London that I'd only ever heard really bad electronic music.  It was there that I discovered my enthusiasm for melodic techno and deep or progressive house.  For several years, I took part in subcultural events, mainly as a dancer, listening to everything from downtempo to techno, as long as the bass was there. While Covid put an abrupt end to my dancing, I started to try my hand at a small controller together with friends. My classical piano training, which my parents partly forced on me and partly made possible, helped me here.

✔️ In your opinion, what are the best ingredients for an afterhour?

For me, a good afterhour is all about the people and the music!

✔️ What thoughts would you like to share with us about your recording and experiences at the Afterhour Sounds showcase at Bahnwärter Thiel? 

I don't really get excited before gigs anymore, but this time I definitely felt my nerves again. Luckily the afterhour crew were super sweet and were able to support me. After the first few transitions I was able to enjoy the feeling, the audience was fantastic and carried me through the two hours. It was a wonderful atmosphere and I can only thank Maria Theresia von Eberg once again for this invitation.

This Set was recorded at Beate Uwe Barfuß. For a while now it´s my favourite living room for having cozy slowed down sundays. As the name says “barfuß” I was standing there barefeet while playing and for this opportunity I pulled out some of my favourite melodic tunes, mixed with some Downtempo.

✔️ What are your musical influences? What are your musical backgrounds? 

Our musical influences come definitely from the dancefloor. Feeling the music and connecting with the story of the DJ is something that both of us really enjoy as dancers. And that is something that we try to bring to our Sets as well... Telling our story, connecting hearts and grooving all together in one rhythm is something that we enjoy most about being DJs. Before we met each other, we both liked folk music very much, still do ;). Since Chomba moved from Chile to Australia he got into the electronic music scene and started to enroll in ableton production classes. When Pulli moved to Berlin she went from D'n'B to Balkan Beats partys until she found her love for electronic music.

Since we met and decided to make music together our style is constantly shaping. First, we lived some years in Chile and played some afro house (our first release was actually an afro house track). We love to combine melodies and vocals with rhythmical elements. Back then we were more influenced by South American rhythms, sounds and elements. Since we moved to Berlin in 2022 we have been more and more influenced by the Berlin music scene, which has way darker and bassier sounds on the plate for us.

✔️ Thoughts about the Set:
It's interesting now to think about our musical backgrounds and analyze the Set we played for the New Year's Party at Beate Uwe. It was 6 am and the dancefloor was still super crowded. We went from some melodic tunes to indie dance and it even got a little discoish at the end. It was a really interesting and funny journey trying to catch the vibe of the crowd. It's also a journey into our past - connecting the melodic, rhythmical elements with some darker tunes. It was a lot of fun.

✔️ What is a good afterhour for you?
What we like about afterhours, is that there is always this unique vibe that was created by everybody together during the night... The afterhours we played were all pretty different, some were faster and darker and others were softer and more melodic.
We love both types but our hearts definitely go more with the softer ones. Creating that special vibe, where everybody is just enjoying, eyes closed, forgetting about everything that happens around us, just being in that moment together- is such a privilege. And it doesn't matter if there is a full dancefloor or just a few people left - it's about the connection and love that everybody feels in that moment.

✔️  What is your musical background?
It was definitely a journey for me to electronic music. In my early years, I was very influenced by my parents' music from the 60s/70s. That's where my love for psychedelic rock, soul and blues came from. As a teenager, I mainly listened to Britpop, alternative rock, indie and trip hop. Radiohead, Blur, Björk, Portishead - to name just a few. Unsurprisingly, I got into electronic music via indietronic/electronica: from Hot Chip, Caribou, The Knife to James Holden, Nicolás Jaar, Stimming and DJ Koze. I then moved to Berlin in 2010 and in the first few years I was particularly captivated by the sound at Kater (Niconé, Frivolous, Rampue, Feathered Sun) and Keinemusik. 

✔️  What is a good afterhour for you?
My perfect afterhour is a cosy heart rave. After many hours of partying and dancing, people are in a particularly exuberant, heartfelt, crazy mode. When the music skilfully picks up on this mood and brings people back to collective ecstasy, that's the best part of every rave for me. At after-hours, I'm always particularly happy to hear music that goes beyond the typical primetime sound. It can be slow, trippy, dirty, experimental or even the hit machine, the main thing is that it is positive, has a coherent flow and makes all the little ravers fall happily into each other's arms.

✔️  Thoughts about the Set:
I had a great time at this New Year's gig. The Beate is simply a cosy club with a lovely crowd. It was also a Mystic Creatures showcase, which means that many artist friends and favourite people were there. This is actually my first recording from the Beate, even though I've played there so often and we've been organising there with our collective finster/ for over 5 years. For me, the evening was a very nice start to the new year and I hope you can hear that too ❤️‍🔥.

✔️ What is your musical background?
For me the active electronic music game started at the beginning of 2021, one month after my first deep-felt rave experience. During a party we had in the community I lived in one of my roommates suggested I might try mixing and introduced me into playing a first track. Since then, the light got lit and the fascination for music made me go ahead. After moving to Berlin six months later and meeting my friend @zhart who also had started to play recently, the journey begun and over time I learned more about collecting and mixing sounds. Soon we got to know our love for downtempo and became part of the heart-filling BeYond collective that also influenced my taste in sound and parties. Since about one year I feel home in playing 95 BPM or slower and got to love the playful and wholesome moments  that slowraves can offer as much as the extra space that Downtempo gives to every sound.

✔️ What is a good afterhour for you?
„...after collectively spending a sweet time. especially then after several hours of dancing, fully entering into all layers of sound may feel extra natural. the time seems to get a different quality and creates a space full of easy and joy. i feel this is where a good afterhour can bring you."

✔️ Thoughts about the Set:
This mix originates from a closing set I played in Beate Uwe in Berlin - what I loved during this set was the fact that the people on the floor really seemed to let themselves go deep into the sound. It’s always beautiful when dancers hop onto the slow lane and appreciate the vibe of slow dark baselines and playful melodies. This gig also felt special because the first part was a b2b with iris anahata (released on magicians on duty) which both of us enjoyed a lot. Especially in wild times like the current ones feel to me I highly appreciate moments where some weight gets lifted from our shoulders and music takes us to the current moment.

✔️ What are your musical influences? What is your musical background?

I started playing guitar at an early age and grew up listening to a lot of Stones, Doors and Pink Floyd. In my youth, I got into electronic music via the album Crooks & Lovers by Mount
Kimbie album. Then it started with melancholic deep house by Kris Davis and Christian Löffler and ended up here in a roundabout way. The biggest inspirations that where I am now and what I play was probably 2016 with Sarah Kreis, Caleesi, Mira,
WIDE AWAKE and at one point in Gardelegen... Those were just great times.

✔️ What do you think makes a good afterhour?

After tired comes stupid. Laughing a lot, making nonsense and listening to/doing quiet music with your best listening to/making music with your best friends.

✔️ What thoughts would you like to share with us about your mix?

To be honest, since the faster, higher, further wave, I've been feeling more and more pressure and have I've often struggled with it over the last year. In this set, I played a bit softer and and dreamier and it went down so well. It definitely gave me a lot of strength for this year.

✔️  How did you feel about the gig?

It's difficult to put into words what I felt. The day/night will definitely be remembered for a long time  Sisyphos opening weekend, Gerda's birthday in the Kaschemme, surrounded by my best friends my best friends and favourite artists, who were still tearing it up after me (@kon-faber, @pullichomba, @tvisker, @fabiankrooss, @sahrabass, @ueberhaupt_ausserdem). Never
never had my exact sound running for so long at Sisyphos. Everything was just right. A thousand thanks to Gerda! @raeubermaedchen.

Der für uns noch unbekannte Manu aka Soulcat bereichert unsere Aufnahmenreihe heute mit einem besonders energiegeladenen Mix im Stile einer Dirty Disko direkt aus der Station Endlos in Halle. Wer noch nie dort war, sollte dies schnellstens ändern. Es lohnt sich. Und bei der Musik wie dieser hier, sowieso.

✔️ Was sind deine musikalischen Einflüsse? Was ist dein musikalischer Hintergrund?

Früher spielte ich in diversen Bands Gitarre und Saxophon und nahm auch mal das Gesangsmikro zur Hand. Von Haus aus mag ich handgemachte Musik eigentlich weitaus mehr als Elektronisches,  bin aber über die Jahre dem Beat und den Nächten der Stadt verfallen. Ich mag es, meine aktuellen Lieblingstracks aneinander zu reihen und damit eine Atmosphäre zu kreieren und einen Spannungsbogen zu spannen. Wichtig ist und bleibt für mich die Präsenz von Melodien, Gesängen und/oder instrumentalen Samples. Jede Lebensphase hat glaube ich auch seine musikalische Phase, gerade haben es mir besonders Disko, Italo und 80s angetan. Außerdem mag ich fette Synths und Acid Sounds. Und tanzbar sollte es natürlich sein!

✔️ Was macht deiner Meinung nach eine gute Afterhour aus?

Gute Freunde sind natürlich unersetzlich. Nicht fehlen darf nebenbei ein langer Atem, obwohl es schon wieder hell ist, das Gefühl noch ewig machen zu können, weil der ewige Beat, die schweren Beine weiter trägt und leicht fühlen lässt und den subtilen Anflug von Unvernunft und Gedanken an morgen verfliegen lässt. 

✔️ Wie hast du den Gig empfunden?

Es war schon sehr früh/oder sehr spät (wie man´s nimmt) :D Sozusagen zur besten Afterhour Zeit. Außerdem war es für mich das erste mal, dass ich ein richtiges Floor-Closing spielen dürfte. Zunächst war ich ein wenig enttäuscht, dass der Floor so spärlich besucht war, hatte dann aber das Glück, dass kurz bevor ich anfing, der Nebenfloor dicht machte und die Leute von dort herüber geströmt kamen und dieses Erlebnis für mich zu einem einzigartigen machten. Danke fürs tanzen und für den von euch bewiesenen langen Atem:)


✔️ Welche Gedanken magst du uns zu deinem Mix mit auf den Weg geben?

Achtung: zum Ende hin wird’s fluffig!;)

Afterhour Sounds is since his begining in 2012 a crew of music lovers, music makers and music supporters. What started as an small idea developed over the years into an important institution in the field of electronic dance in and beyond germany. Our goal was and still is to enrich the world with different interpretations of the afterhour. 

In the beginning, we focused our passion on finding and supporting (un)known artists through blog posts, reposts and podcast contributions. Gradually, we expanded our sections to include live recordings and premieres. In-house releases and events were not long in coming. The crew changed, but the passion and spirit remained.
