Every year in our #MusicEd degree @sydneycon, I create a new real world project for the final two weeks of our music methods course to demonstrate Project Based Learning (PBL) in Music Education. Following Jeff Robin (High Tech High), I DO THE PROJECT MYSELF, FIRST.

This year I've got us learning to use the new free SOLARIA lite voices from Eclipsed Sounds, running in the (also free) basic version of Synthesizer V by Dreamtonics. In groups, students will write their own song with SOLARIA singing the lead vocals, and then enter the Song Contest (which is the real-world outcome!) - https://www.eclipsedsounds.com/solaria-original-contest

I had also just upgraded my Arturia V Collection to the new version, so had fun playing with the new MS-20 and Augmented Strings plug-ins :)

Losing You

This song is inspired by a walk I took in my local neighbourhood with my mum. It's about how the slightly grubby city streets are my happy place. 

Here's the words;

Humberstone composed his Requiem from 2001-2003 in memory of his mother. In includes quotes of the English folk tune "The Prickety Bush" which his mother was fond of, as well as references to Satie and Humberstone's own experimental and minimal influences.

This recording is of a 2006 revision which was completed at the request of Sydneian Bach Choir conductor Chris Shepard, using smaller instrumental resources to make the work tourable (the original version features full strings, and no percussion or piano). There is also a version for choir with organ alone. The Sydneian Bach Choir did not take the work on tour, but did premiere this version at Sydney Grammar School in 2006.
