Neto - Fuck

Scottish DJ and producer Nick Moore is Linkwood, someone who applies a master craftsmen and hugely artistic approach to everything he does. Because of this, he has a reputation for fantastically deep house that is magically ornamental, resplendent with atmospheric ambiance and littered with moving melody. He releases on local label Firecracker and its sub label Shevnchenko, and most recently offered up the tripled vinyl delights of his second album, Expressions. 

Now he is taking up the mantel on our podcast series and serves up just over an hour of sumptuous sound. Despite being a relatively short set, the Scot manages to cram a lot in, from dub techno to intergalactic deep house via spaced out jams and intricately melodic tech. Importantly, every record he reaches for bares all the hallmarks of that emotive Linkwood sound we all know and love, so stick it on and allow yourself to get lost at the hands of a real master.

The three tracks on the EP showcase her propensity for dark, eerie atmospherics that pack a serious punch, blending elements of heavy techno with crunchy electro synth lines that immediately evoke parallels with Parisian innovator, Gesaffelstein. Inspired by “sketchy vibes” and “downtown alleyways,” all three of REZZ’s productions on 'Insurrection' are fully dancefloor-ready while imposing a unique entrancement on their listeners.

REZZ - Plague [NEST054]

Randomer and L.I.E.S, back for another one: it makes a lot of sense. But "Juju" stands in contrast to the shrapnel 'n slime of our other L.I.E.S. Debut of 2015, or last year's crunching Residents. It's less an exercise in bucket-kicking techno weaponry, and closer to the complex yet oddly infectious sounds of early Bookworms or latter Shackleton.

The whole EP's a belter. Even a full seven years (seven!) into his career proper, Randomer's consistency has yet to taper off. Cop the next instalment soon: LIES063 sees release in September.

As well as being a comprehensive producer and DJ, Rolando's weighty resumé is also filled out by his former association with Underground Resistance, ownership of the R3 imprint, and a Berghain residency. It therefore doesn't come as a surprise that his opener on the remix EP of Anton Pieete's "The News" should be this much of a certified head-turner. Bearing a strong allegiance to its musical pedigree, both original and rework shine in their orthodoxy of modern techno. Going slightly deeper than Pieete may have dared to, Rolando reincarnates "The News" into a choppy underground churner to ignite any darkened dancefloor.

Anton Pieete "The News (Rolando Remix)" - Boiler Room Debuts

After kicking off 2016 with the massive “Don’t Need EP” from Callahan, DEXT is back with another banger of an EP from fast rising producer Mella Dee.

After playing at our Data Transmission party at Rise Festival in December, the man from Doncaster has had releases on Redlight’s Lobster Boy and Sweden based Omena Records; his DEXT Debut certainly doesn’t disappoint. The thunderous “Deep Soul” opens things up with filtered amens, chopped-up vocals and Reece bass lines; the perfect take on the late 1993 UK sound, honed & updated with a driving techno twist for 2016. We really enjoyed “Circular” its a “heads down”  hypnotic synths and incessant drum patterns wind around each other to create a seriously classy, broken, techno track.

To round it all off we have a stunning rework of the title track which is our Debut Transmission today from Endian (Non Plus, Birdie, Secretsundaze). Twisting up the original elements, this dark warehouse version has been crafted to perfection.

Mella Dee - Deep Soul (Endian Remix)

Hailing from Århus, Denmark second largest city, Central has always felt closely connected to the rock, punk and experimental scene blooming in his hometown. Those same DIY aesthetics manifest in his own idiosyncratic take on electronic music that, apart from being highly distinctive, is best to be described as incredibly versatile.

His sterling label debut is spread out over four slabs of wax — DKMNTL 34 & 35. It's a delightful journey that deviates between the deepest, vocal tinged house of "Keep Love On Me" and the lush ambience found on "Longest Way Between Two Point". On the second EP, the innocuous playfulness of "Tubelife", the soulful and brooding "Detour King" and the jazzy undertones of "Politcal Dance" are colourfully-plumed dance tracks drawing on jazz-soul and deep house knitted together with impressive precession.

The crème de la crème is most definitely "Body Issue" though. Rooted by a simple bassline plod, its extravagance comes via strobes of synth artistry and laissez-faire, percussive grooves. A must-have ahead of the Dekmantel delights this summer.

The quality of sound emanating from Ilian Tape's rooftops has been nothing short of amazing since the word go. Munich's own  Zenker Brothers stand proudly as the helmsmen. 

We had the honour of Debuting one of Marco and Dario's more recent airings as part of 50WEAPONS' closing series of split-singles; a run-in where their cameo royalties were shared with none other than Marcel Dettman. 

That being said, good music continues to flow through their own IT imprint. Number 30 comes from Turin native and longtime label friend, Stenny. 

From  Consume IV comes "Westward" – a heady, fast paced track of tunnel vision techno; both retro and futuristic in one gulp with elements that hark back to the 1990s British rave heyday.

The Her Records unit are no strangers to BR: their family showcase on our channels remains one of the rugged gemstones in our deep archive. Release after release, their aesthetic has risen with stark distinction: a steady salvo of machine-house and metallic club ammunition, sharply-hewn for dancefloor use only.

Next in Her's armoury is 'Hague Basement' –– a bumper single from  NKC, one of the label's most exciting new recruits. Though he's been an unslippable disc in Her's backbone for a minute now, his debut statement for the imprint has been a long time coming. Gladly it doesn't fall short.

Of the three workouts on HER012, its title track is our pick of the litter: a no-nonsense bout of juggernaut drums and vocal incantations, all built to destroy the dance. Urgent, tribal and (really fucking) hard, it's fuel to feed the tireless few found after lights up in basements from South London to Den Haag.

Premiere: Divided 'Interzone'

It only took 20+ years of being top of the Swedish electronic music game for Pär Grindvik to launch his first ever full length release. Isle of Real features ten tracks which traverse a landscape of techno, experimental, electronica and ambient splendour. Written whilst on the road for several months on end, renowned producer and Stockholm LTD label head Grindvik took to hotel rooms and plane journeys for his nomadic production sessions – later polishing, recording and perfecting these demos in Peder Mannerfelt's Stockholm studio.

Throughout the album, Grindvik demonstrates his talent for finding the melodic soul in mechanical sounds. Isle of Real runs with a theme of spaces once inhabited, long since abandoned and reclaimed by the creep of nature. To us, "Headland" encompasses this most coherently and impressively. Built upon timeless techno blueprints, "Headland" aims to haunt with its eerie reverbed bells lingering far beyond its final notes.

A tale unravels in Isle of Real's plains and peaks. A long overdue LP debut from one of electronic music's key storytellers. Catch the pre-order of the double 12", out on May 24th via Grindvik's own Stockholm LTD label.

TRP "Stash" - Boiler Room Debuts

From Huntleys + Palmers springs forth another wedge of remixes dubbed Chapter 3. This time, it's key Cómeme player Lena Willikens on remixing duties. You’d usually catch Willikens raiding the airwaves of Dusseldorf’s Salon des Amateurs, as well as spearheading the renowned monthly “Sentimental Flashback” show for Radio Cómeme.

From Chapter 3, we’ve singled out Willikens rework of Oklo Gabon’s “City Gym” as our go-to track. Defined by an enticing flurry of sharp key work and resilient percussion, the track hits the ground running — never losing its grip once.

The second instalment of remixes of Jamie Lloyd’s debut album Trouble Within come courtesy of the excellent Drumpoet Community collective from Switzerland. The Drumpoet releases have been getting high rotation in the Future Classic offices since the beginning and its a pleasure to again make a new connection between our base in Sydney and another part of the world.

The Soultourist boat is crewed by Philippe Wüger (Thabo), Tobi (Foster), Ron Shiller, and Pascal Dubach (Big Clap), with the rowing done in shifts. The four met while DJing and hanging out at parties realizing that their cases were packed with nearly the same records and that they shared a common musical vision. Soultourist's first 12" was released on the Sonar Kollektiv after which they have contributed releases to Swiss label Bit Boutique and now of course the newly founded Zürich based Drumpoet Community label with their excellent Yeah! and Turn Loose EP’s.

The Soultourist remix of Jamie Lloyd’s You Out or In? is all class, with the sort of immaculate production and clarity we’d expect from spending all that time at high altitude, or perhaps an Autumnal dip in Lake Zürich? The bass is tight, the drums crisp and there’s musicality throughout (including some awesome keys) which we applaud!

Quarion was moving from Zürich to Berlin while doing this remix, and he thinks the results are revealing of this move, with a deephouse take on the nu-wave-of-rave he was enjoying during his first weeks in Berlin. A rewarding addition to the box or laptop of any DJ who enjoyed his excellent Karusu EP on Drumpoet.. or perhaps an introduction to someone new to keep an eye on!
