<p>Shanie Miotto drops her first-ever release straight from Montreal to the Tronic camp and the edit from label boos Christian Smith and usual suspect/collaborator Wehbba is up first. Pulling the gears back on this one, we get treated to subliminal chords and almost-epic progressions, while the momentum is fuelled by arpeggiated synths. The Macromism mix toughens things up a bit with a busy rhythm section and heavy use of lush pads, while using parts of the synths for extra class. Closing up, Matt Sassari stays true to his shadowy sound and brings in pitched-down vocals, cavernous effects and bubbling sub bass.</p>

Since forming four years ago, Italian based trio Agents Of Time have already released on both Maceo Plex’s Ellum and Jennifer Cardini’s Correspondant imprints. On top of crafting remixes for artists including Sailor & I and WhoMadeWho, this year saw the launch of their own label entitled ‘Obscura’, named after the parties they have been running for the past three years. 'Xylo' is their debut EP for Curle, offering both atmospheric but firm techno, complemented by a healthy dose of floating melodies. Mathew Jonson and Agents Of Time take their on-stage collaboration into the studio for a new EP on Obscura, ‘Repeating Pattern, Numbers and Letters’.

Italian trio Agents Of Time realise a longtime dream with the eighth release on their Obscura label. Mathew Jonson’s singular productions and improvisational performance style has had a huge influence over them since the beginning of their career, so much so that their name Agents Of Time is taken from a 2010, Mathew Jonson album title. Their shared love for jamming and aligned musical visions led to a joint performance in 2017 (Agents Of Time played live with Jonson’s band Cobblestone Jazz) and now it lands on record.

The magic happened in Jonson’s spaceship of a studio in Berlin. Press play on opener ‘Repeating Patterns, Numbers and Letters’, which features the infectious vocals of Jonson’s wife Isis, and the spirited vibe of those sessions comes alive. The beats are organic, the melodies warm and colourful. Jonson’s inimitable splashes of funk and the Agents’ fluid basslines continue on the B-side with the kaleidoscopic breakdowns of ‘IG00156’. The digital only, final track ‘Dancing In The Darkness’ is another extended trip through the four artists’ rich world of sound, rounding off this inimitable record with striking musicianship.

‘Repeating Pattern, Numbers and Letters’ is out on March 29.

Over the last three months Maceo Plex has taken the sound of the Mutant series on tour across North and South America. Playing to over 30,000 fans at dedicated one-off shows from Canada to Chile, this warped but welcome sound has connected us all. Inspired by afterhours underground sessions yet full of life and energy, these seven songs resonate with the global techno community and have become a feature on the many Maceo Plex fan groups scouring social media for video clips of new music and news.

'Clash Lion is a mix of three personalities; Shall Ocin, TERR and Daniel Watts. Three artists with different musical backgrounds merging forces to create a truly open-minded label. Starting out in 2017, a release from Maetrik set the path for the newcomers, which lead to substantial praise for their selection of artists thus far, including ANNA, TERR and Risa Taniguchi.

Their dedication to living on the edges of the scene has now found compilation form as ‘Clash Culture’ a collection of tracks which showcases the diversity of the label and the wealth of talent on its roster. 

Opening this release is Shall Ocin with ‘Inflection’. An electro-tinged groover that defies classification. Surefooted kicks lead the way while rubbery bass, 80’s inspired synths and twisted vocals combine in the most-sultry way. Next, the mysterious no_Ip delivers ‘It’s Wrong’, an edgy drum workout full of sinister nuances and deliberate sparseness. An exclusive debut for Clash Lion. 

Next up, Canadian supremo Fairmont’s ‘Dotted Eye’ is a hardware extravaganza. Crisp beats underpin the action while the main synth mutates and grows throughout as if it has a mind of its own. Finally, Daniel Watts rounds the release up with ‘Consciousness Chemical Control’. Taking a more progressive route, cinematic sound design and clean drums create an audio adventure that will take some beating.'

Agents Of Time is the project of Andrea Di Ceglie and Luigi Tutolo. A revered two­man live act, DJs and masters of their sound in the studio. 
Since starting their journey together as Agents Of Time, the two Italians have combined their talents and shared influences to become a globally in­demand dance act, releasing on a number of leading labels along the way. A much­loved debut 12” on Correspondent in 2014, ‘Polina’, marked them out as an exciting new name in the realm of emotional, melodic techno and kickstarted their touring career. 
A hardware­heavy, improvisational live set spanning house, techno and acid is at the heart of what they do. The two members perform around a square table, facing each other, translating a symbiotic energy through the machines and communicating through instinct and gesture. A complex, unique and unpredictable dance between human minds and analog equipment that invariably creates moments of magic. Their live set was partly inspired by an expert of the craft in Mathew Jonson, and it is telling of Agents Of Time’s success that they now count Jonson as a collaborator. ‘Repeating Patterns, Numbers and Letters’, Agents Of Time’s first studio collaboration with Jonson came out in March 2019, following live shows together at Rex Club (Paris) and Movement Festival (Torino). 
The adventurous spirit and heady sound palette is channeled into house, techno and more obscure selections. 
Their work in the studio is a free­flowing ritual, an extension of what they do on stage. ‘Spread The Word’, their debut album came out Stem Records in 2014 and was followed by hit EPs for Maceo Plex’s Ellum Audio, their own label Obscura and Curle Recordings. A relationship with Tale Of Us and multiple appearances at Afterlife events has also led to Agents Of Time signing to Afterlife with the stunning ‘Dream Vision’ EP and 'Paradigm' on the Realm Of Consciousness compilation. 

The Agents Of Time are taking careful steps and showing themselves to be gifted, versatile performers with each one. Whether on record, on stage or at an any event, count on a high­quality output, finely balanced between experimentation and a straight dancefloor vibe.
