The music for this hymnpoem was given in a vision
to a monk of Mount Athos in Greece.
For centuries, Orthodox Christians have called
Valaam monastery in Russia “The Northern Athos”.
Like Mount Athos, Valaam is surrounded by water
and located in an isolated setting far from the world.
The monks' choir is absolutely surreal: both chilling and ecstatic...

Εκεί άκουσα τους μοναχούς να λένε την ευχή άπειρες φορές
και την ονομάζουν καρδιακή προσευχή. 
Ο Θεός δίνει την χάρη του σε εκείνους που την λένε συχνά και στο τέλος η ευχή αυτή λέγεται και απο τα χείλη της καρδιάς... όπως χτυπάει η καρδιά σου έτσι προσεύχεται κι εκείνη προς τον Δημιουργό της.

Agni Parthene - Valaam Brethren Choir

A very good rendition of some of the most important works of Ioannis Papadopoulos Koukouzelis, undoubtly the greatist composer of Greek church music in the 13th century and the second best ever, after composer John Damascene. His hymns are considered the most difficult, especially the so-called ''slow'', including the famous "Cherubic" and "Preserve, O Lord, our Master and Hierarch". Powerful, majestic interpretations, full of the splendor of the last years of the Byzantine empire. A strong sense of the feelings of mankind facing God and eternity. One of the best studio recordings of Greek church music (and, actually, one of the very few releases devoted exclusively to Koukouzelis).

Now the God of hope fill you all with joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. (Romans 15, 13)

The love for our fellow-men, but mainly the love of Truth, the divine Truth revealed in the Person of the incarnate Word, Christ our God, has moved the hearts of the Athonite fathers to give in to the request of ever more faithful to create, be it in the digital space, a website where those wanting to find out  about the views of the Athonite fathers on various current issues of spiritual life can do it easily.

The danger caused by the multitude of heresies of our days, as well as the growing confusion among Orthodox believers, generated by the negative impact of the secularization of today’s society, urged the Athonite fathers to take on the fight and confess the Truth.

Spirited by the divine love burning in their hearts and by the hope of victory in this fight, strengthened by the shadow of the Almighty, the strugglers of Orthodoxy lay down their souls for their brothers in Christ and preach the divine word “in season and out of season”.

May this their offering be accepted before God and bear rich harvest in the heavenly  “barns”.
