Έφυγα απ' το Φαραώ της Αιγύπτου τη σκλαβιά,
μ' αρχηγό το Μωυσή έφτασα ως το Σινά.

Στο Σινά να ανεβώ ώ! Πολύ το επιθυμώ,
στην Αγία κορυφή και να λέω την ευχή.

Η ανάβασις σκληρή, Θεέ μου δος μου υπομονή,
καρτερία και αντοχή, ν' αποκτήσω την ευχή.

Πρώτα η υπακοή, η Γραφή και το κελί,
κι η αγία σιωπή δυναμώνουν την ευχή.

Την ευχή για να τη λες πρέπει από το μυαλό,
να πετάξεις μακριά κάθε πράγμα κοσμικό.

Στην αρχή, την ευχή να τη λες προφορικά,
κι ύστερα από καιρό θα σου γίνει νοερά.

Και στα λόγια της ευχής να' ναι όλη η προσοχή,
γιατί όταν φανταστείς κίνδυνος να πλανηθείς.

Τον πειράζοντα πολύ ερεθίζει η ευχή,
και γι' αυτό μην πτοηθείς όταν σου επιτεθεί.

Κι απ' το δέντρο της ευχής βγαίνουνε καρποί γλυκείς.
Ω! τι μέλι είν' αυτό δεν μπορείς να φανταστείς.

Η ευχή πώς ενεργεί μην ζητάς να σου το πω,
δεν μπορώ να εκφραστώ είναι Θείο μυστικό.

Όταν δεις την ευχή μέσα σου να ενεργεί,
φρούρησέ τη να καλά με ταπείνωση πολλή.

Γέροντά μου σεβαστέ, Μωυσή μου νοητέ,
έλα δος μου μια ευχή ν' αποκτήσω την ευχή.

Κι η Μητέρα του Χριστού, Ηγουμένη Μυστική,
ευλογεί τους μοναχούς και τους δίνει την ευχή.

Cappella Romana Media combines passion with scholarship in its exploration of early and contemporary music of the Christian East and West.

Featuring classical chants in Greek primarily by Petros Peloponnesios (1730–1778). Adaptations into Arabic primarily by Mitri El Murr (1880–1969) and those into English by John Michael Boyer (b. 1978) closely echo the originals in form, style, and grace.

This debut release by PRÓTO presents traditional chants for the Byzantine celebration of Christmas, including selections from The Royal Hours, Vespers, Matins, and the Divine Liturgy. A deluxe 32-page booklet is included with full texts in Greek, Arabic, and English.

PRÓTO is a collaboration of two protopsaltes (“first cantors”): John Michael Boyer, Protopsaltis of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of San Francisco; and the Reverend Deacon John Rassem El Massih, Protopsaltis of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America. Teir shared vision is excellence in traditional Byzantine Music as well as the advancement, development, and composition of traditional Byzantine Music in the English language.

Now the God of hope fill you all with joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. (Romans 15, 13)

The love for our fellow-men, but mainly the love of Truth, the divine Truth revealed in the Person of the incarnate Word, Christ our God, has moved the hearts of the Athonite fathers to give in to the request of ever more faithful to create, be it in the digital space, a website where those wanting to find out  about the views of the Athonite fathers on various current issues of spiritual life can do it easily.

The danger caused by the multitude of heresies of our days, as well as the growing confusion among Orthodox believers, generated by the negative impact of the secularization of today’s society, urged the Athonite fathers to take on the fight and confess the Truth.

Spirited by the divine love burning in their hearts and by the hope of victory in this fight, strengthened by the shadow of the Almighty, the strugglers of Orthodoxy lay down their souls for their brothers in Christ and preach the divine word “in season and out of season”.

May this their offering be accepted before God and bear rich harvest in the heavenly  “barns”.
