Beat Art Department releases an EP with remixes by Retrogott, Brenk Sinatra and Cookin’ Soul from the upcoming self-titled album of the Vienna DJ and producer Urbs .

It has been eleven long years since Urbs dropped his last album which was called “Toujours Le Meme Film”. Back then, the musician, DJ and producer created the soundtrack to a fictitious Film Noir, which was released on Kruder & Dorfmeister‘s G-Stone Label, but after touring Europe he almost completely retreated from public life. He does not consider his creativity as being his career, but rather as a part of his life which rarely is subject to concrete planning, and that is why Urbs quite consciously took his time to create his latest –untitled- album.
Urbs: “A lot of people totally appreciated my last album “Toujours Le Meme Film”, and over the years I’ve learned that it really means a lot to some of them. Which was a burden, because, obviously, you do not want to disappoint these people. By now, I think enough water went down Danube river to perhaps surprise some of them with something completely new. Those who know me know that I’ve always simply produced dope hip hop tracks.”
This time, as a consequence, this is no all instrumental album but a collection of 12 soulful hip hop tunes that feature some handpicked vocalist of the international rap, dancehall and soul scenes. On the album right next to EMC’s Wordsworth or R.A. the Rugged Man from New York, you will hear Ward 21 from Kingston, Jamaica, Voice Monet from New Orleans, One Self’s Blu Rum 13 from Washington DC, as well as long time companions like Skero from Vienna or Blabbwona from the group Abstract Art, who now lives in Munich by choice.
With a wink of the eye, Urbs replies to the question what it felt like recording an album together with vocalists after having released several instrumental albums: “Generally speaking, letting go of the songs and surrendering myself to the MCs gave me a hard time. You spend a lot of time with a song and build a certain kind of relationship. The music creates pictures in your mind and often its meaning is hard to grasp for the producer. And then, an MC starts rapping over it and it is a little bit like your older brother’s rude friends turn your child's room in a mess – in your presence!"
There also is a simple answer to the question of why the album has no title: “This album, so to say, is my competitive exhibition in this field and owing to the endlessly long ripening process it is wonderfully and intensively boiled down and on point. Therefore, no intros, no interludes, no title, no gimmicks, simply 12 good songs – period.”

Took us a while to finally deliver something from Belgium based dnb powerhouse The Untouchables, although our mutual brainstorming started long time ago. Better later than never or evermore. Red Army's take on Ded Sheppard's Run Baby Run is a blistering bass march featuring a hard 4/4 kick progression over unsettling horror samples. Fuj goes into more esoteric territory with an off-kilter reverb-heavy rendition of dreadmaul's Inka while Owl reshapes Lums & [[-CRBL-CTS-]]'s TRIBLMS85 into ominous, spacious orbits. Ded Sheppard is featured again on Out Of Fuel's remix of The Youth, featuring a repeating acid line, progressing with paranoid intensity. dreadmaul slows things way down with a cinematic, downtempo reimagining of Dimensional Dryft's Monuments while Akinsa rounds out the release with a punishing, percussive redub of Madikma's Reason. With over a decade of steady releases, Onset Audio continues to push the boundaries in dnb, halftime, and ambient- this EP is an encapsulation of their sound....

Perseverance is an often use word to describe a person overcoming their struggles. A battle conquered a day. In today’s music world - while all the glitz and glamour can be rewarding for some dedicated striving artists, too many don’t maintain longevity and are quickly forgotten. Yet in the middle of it all are those few who stay patient, true to themselves, and focused on their respective musical pursuits. Brooklyn’s own NYC underground artist, T.R.A.C., has climbed to new heights throughout his years of experience in both Hip Hop and Drum and Bass. A masterful wordsmith, his talents are proven in his work with legendary producers such as Marc Mac (4hero) and Lewis Parker(UK). As an MC, he’s rocked stages with names like LTJ Bukem, Roni Size, and Goldie  to name a few from the lengthy (and growing) list of A class DJs. Recognized internationally throughout his career in the Drum and Bass scene as a premiere stateside born MC with the roots of a talented Hip Hop artist.
Featured on a slew of Lewis Parker projects, T.R.A.C. released his BBE debut Hip Hop effort, “The Network”, in 2011. The album was produced by legendary 4hero artist Marc Mac, and received underground critical acclaim, along with 6 star rating from OE magazine. T.R.A.C.’s sound is described as bluesy, soulful, easy listening, yet still Hip Hop.
Already respected in the world of Drum and Bass, T.R.A.C. has recently garnered even more attention via a plethora of well-received releases with respected labels. His work with Shogun LTD. Jazzsticks (Paul SG), Intrigue Music (Ben Soundscape), and V recordings are notable within the genre. Tunes like “The Partys Arrived” (Dave Owens), and the now classic “Higher Ground”(Submorphics), have elevated the artist to a higher platform and created much anticipation for his debut DnB album with V boss Bryan Gee. After recent release of “the V singles” compilation, an energetic buzz is rising and T.R.A.C.’s time has come to shine. 2017 is shaping up to be an amazing run for this talent.
