‘People EP’ is four distinct cuts, spread across six mixes, that takes in both melodic and more traditional peak time techno and electronica / breaks. So, extremely varied on the one hand, yet, as is the way with Julian, when considered as a whole, he manages to impart his amazing production skills and make the EP hang together. Put another way, it makes complete dancefloor sense in the truest sense of the word.

‘Resonator’ kicks things off with a serious bang as he explains, “It’s my version of peak time techno. It’s quite simple in its arrangement, but has a menacing, modulated lead that grows in intensity. I can’t wait to play this one out in the coming months…”

Things then take a more soothing turn with title track ‘People’, which is the first of two vocal electronica offerings. “I love breakbeat songs with emotions and playful melodies,” Julian continues, “from a creative point of view, I’ve really enjoyed the time lockdown has given me to explore wider genres I may not necessarily have delved into had clubs and gigging continued as normal.”

The EP concludes by flip-flopping between techno and breaks yet again with ‘Radio Problems’, an MH&T track that’s very much a continuation of ‘Komet’ from his debut Renaissance EP with its fusion of contemporary beats and retro sounding synths; and ‘Fallen Stars’, which is a more reflective electronica piece that draws down on its deep, haunting vocal. Lastly, we need to point out the song-phobic need not worry as Julian kindly offers both as dubs too, “I’ve included dub mixes for DJs because I often prefer that myself when playing out,” he admits.'

Gallic cynosure Agoria debuts on the Hotflush roster with ‘Hélice’ – a compelling, propelling record that envelopes and encompasses. Blending an ambience of eerie sci-fi over suspense-laden peaks and troughs, it goes after body and mind in equal measure.

Its B-side counterpart is  ‘Make It Real’, a jacking house number cut through with a classic Rhodes bounce. The latent garage disposition is brought to the fore by ESS, whose remix nods to the East Coast glory days of yore.

After the success of their debut Polina EP as played by Dixon, Tale of Us, Agoria et al, Agents of Time return to Correspondant with their most powerful work to date. The Emperor EP sees their sound growing to fill the worlds biggest dance floors, but without losing the signature emotional and cerebral edge which gives their music a notably personal and intimate feel.

Title track, Emperor ,has as anthemic a feel as its regal title would suggest. Ploughing a grand and emotional furrow, but with a driving techno Aesthetic.

Metamorfosi is a deeper affair, which builds to a tense, spectral conclusion that is simultaneously dramatic and, dare we say it, heart wrenching.

Hydra is the most minimal track on the EP, yet still manages to be at once dubbed out and theatrical, with skittering and shuffling percussion throughout. Nazgul continues the tradition of left field house as championed by Correspondant, and as exemplified by label artist Andre Bratten with his track Tromer Og Bass, but with an added horror soundtrack flair which only the Italians can truly bring.

German duo andhim give new life to their track ‘Tosch’ by releasing a four track remix pack, tapping fellow countryman Roman Flügel to offer his unique approach.

Transforming the original tune, Flügel pitches the vocal hook deeper and highlights the rolling bass melody, flipping the original with a somewhat retro synth-wave motif. The steady beat lies at the heart of the production, but the euphoric tones lift the track to a blissful state.

Having been andhim’s debut record on their freshly minted Superfriends label, the duo have paid special attention to delivering a stacked collection of remixes. Also on the release is seasoned veteran Acidi Pauli, up and coming Zurich based DJ and producer Jimi Jules and German duo Manuel Tur and Adrian Hoffman under their Clavis alias.
