Following a superb 2023 with releases on the likes of Sudbeat, Sprout & Selador, Electronic Maestro Gai Barone delivers an EPIC Remix, taking the original elements to the next level, creating a Peak Prog Spectacular!

Next up, we welcome back an inU favourite, Enertia-Sound. In true ES style, the remix has swelling and driving basslines, articulate detail in atmospheric elements and touches, going deeper with the sound - Enjoy!

Originally released at the end of 2022, “EXT 135 / Elemental / Time to Space” showcased GMJ & Matter as masters of the progressive house genre. Now, Meanwhile revisits the 3-track EP with a trio of outstanding new remixes.

Henri Hurtig has been at the vanguard of modern underground dance music for close to two decades with his Cid Inc. production alter-ego. Some 600+ production credits for the likes of microCastle, Lost & Found and his own highly respected, Replug, are testament to an enduring appeal as is a packed tour calendar where the Finnish star continues to tour the world. Now making his Meanwhile debut, the Cid Inc. remix of “Elemental” retains a similar rhythmic poise to the original as a familiar bass pattern blends with a squeaking, bleeping effects layer. A trademark storming beat and seething dancefloor character is in full evidence as a distorted and frenetic breakdown leads to a new melodic character in the second half to brilliant effect. The result is a typically impressive reworking full of dynamism and brio.

A rising star in the progressive firmament since early work for EIN2 in 2018, Tantum has hit considerable heights with his music on Juicebox Music, Mango Alley and Guy J’s Lost & Found. A Meanwhile debut in mid-2023 saw “Secondary / Suan Pan / Narko” place the German star front and centre with a musical triptych of the highest order, as Tantum now returns with a deep and innovative take on “Time to Space”. Replete with rolling groove and deep bassline presence, a more stripped back offering allows the central motif from the original a chance to flourish within a new cadenced structure, while richly textured pads flow effortlessly across the musical stream. Rising and falling in easy patterns, a new arpeggiated pattern makes itself heard alongside a raft of additional production material and counterpoint melodies as the remix heads towards a rousing finale.

Reworking “EXT 135” themselves, Meanwhile head honchos, GMJ & Matter have given the track a sublime “Ambient Reprise”. Stripping away the powerful rhythmic backdrop of the original, the duo have created a sublime interpretation that captures the central melodic elements of the original, allowing them to blossom unencumbered by dancefloor character. The result is a chorus of deliciously crafted keynotes and melodies that blend together in seamless fashion, held together by a deep sub-bass groove. The result is a smooth and pristine slice of electronica magic.

Shining once more through remixes from Cid Inc. and Tantum, GMJ & Matter have given a new lease of life to “EXT 135 / Elemental / Time to Space”.

Presenting their third release of the year, roku welcomes Blanka Barbara to the label for her debut EP. Born in Poland but now based in London, Blanka Barbara first emerged in 2020 with a series of releases via her Rabbit Records imprint. Quickly catching the attention of the progressive house and melodic techno communities, the next two years would see the classically trained pianist and composer go on to record projects for Lane 8’s This Never Happened, Ziger’s Eat My Hat Music, John OO Fleming’s Joof Aura, Mango Alley and Proton’s Particles. With 2023 projects for Juicebox Music and Balkan Connection already in the books, Blanka now adds roku to her resume with ‘Ever Closer’, alongside remixes from Danny Lloyd and Bondarev.

Destined to be a highlight in Blanka’s discography, it is the melodic stylings of ‘Ever Closer’ which get the release underway. Electrically charged from the outset, its rolling rhythmic structures, striking percussion and character rich groove set the piece on a course for aural enlightenment. Dark bass stabs and haunting overlays cleverly coax across the first act, elevating momentum and mood for a finale of colourful arps and hopeful sonics. The companion piece ‘Descending Into Heaven’ finds Blanka showcasing a deeper, more emotive side of her repertoire. The London resident masterfully marries blissful sonics and balmy effects over a framework of warm fluid grooves and precise percussive arrangements. Sitting at the heart of the piece is a reflective interlude, one where hopeful melodies unite in a whirlpool of textural euphoria, perfectly suited for those magical morning moments on the dancefloor.

Making his label debut with the lone interpretation of ‘Ever Closer’ is Danny Lloyd. With a career that spans the better part of two decades, Italian artist Danny Lloyd has etched his own unique place in progressive music history. Long a favourite of Hernan Cattaneo, the Tuscany resident has taken his smooth effortless sound to long standing imprints Asymmetric Recordings, MNL, Movement, Proton Music and more. Known for being choosy in his projects, Danny’s first production of 2023 finds the Italian artist making his roku debut with a hypnotic rendition of ‘Ever Closer’. Opting for a timeless approach, the Italian artist creates a distinctive interpretation in his inimitable style; with arpeggiated fragments and airy sonics uniting over a bed of thumping beats and pulsing basslines, casting a spell over the listener across a fluid first movement, before breaking out into a tastefully restrained and deeply meditative finale.

The release concludes with Bondarev making his label debut with the lone interpretation of ‘Descending Into Heaven’. Russian artist Bondarev has been a DJ for the better part of two decades, sharing the stage with some of progressive music’s most iconic names, while operating as the booking manager for Saint Petersburg’s famed WARPP Club. As a producer, Bondarev first emerged in 2017 with a release via Crossings, a project which would lead to key discography credits courtesy of aboriginal, Mango Alley, Proton’s Particles and most recently via WARPP’s label, where he operates as the A&R. Now, presenting his first remix of 2023, Bondarev debuts on roku with a powerful take on ‘Descending Into Heaven’. Buoyant and energetic across the first movement, Bondarev continues his stylized ways with rippling grooves, flashing percussion and dark stabs creating a prophetic path into the main break. Sitting comfortably in an emotive yet thought provoking space; childlike motifs and sweeping harmonies converge, rising out of calming atmospheres as the interlude evolves, eventually giving way to a thunderous drop and energetic final movement.

Looking towards the end of the summer season, D.J. MacIntyre’s SLC-6 Music unveils new interpretations of ‘Valley Of The Moon' by Juan Ibañez. Originally released as the lead selection on Juan’s ‘Orbit’ collection in 2022, the track would go on to be one of the label’s standouts of the year.  Now, looking to breathe new life into the track for 2023, SLC-6 Music calls upon Kamilo Sanclemente & Jossem, Jesuan M and Juani Otatti to provide their own unique versions.

Making their label debut with the first interpretation of ‘Valley Of The Moon’ are Kamilo Sanclemente & Jossem. Having previously collaborated on projects for Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden and Manual Music, the Colombian duo bring their progressive excellence once again with a version that maintains the spirit of the original, while adding a deeper, dreamier vibe reminiscent of Kamilo’s work for All Day I Dream or Anjunadeep. Returning to the label for the second interpretation is Jesuan M who is fresh off a contribution to Mango Alley’s ‘Augmented 011’ collection. The fast rising Argentinean artist maintains the tough yet dreamy edge of the original, all while putting a greater emphasis on the main musical themes and a glowing break which is sure to captivate the dance floor. The release concludes with Juani Otatti returning to the label following his 2022 remix of ‘Variance’ by fellow countryman Dany Dz. The Patagonia resident opts for a delicate approach, incorporating cascading piano motifs and soulful synth phrasing for a version that should fare well during the morning hours.
