The most successful commercial version, recorded in 1964 by the English rock group The Animals, was a number one hit in the United Kingdom, the United States, Sweden, Finland, and Canada. Adagio (A Yesterdays Hymn) is a short grade 2 band piece I composed a year ago. It is a simple melodic motive that is easy to play by any school band. The world premiere of Adagio was by the Lamar University Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Scott Deppe. 
This recording however was made by the East West Quantum Leap sound libraries.

Adagio (A Yesterdays Hymn) ~  <East West Libraries>

This  piece is one of my original compositions for wind band. I am a published composer through TRN Music and have composed many works for band. 

The Peddler is composed on a folk-tune like setting, emulating Vaughan Williams and Grainger. This piece was particularly inspired by The Lost Lady Found in Grainger's piece Lincolnshire Posy. With lilting melodies and a sense of whimsy, please enjoy the world premiere by the Sinfonian Symphonic Winds of the Eta Mu Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

"This four movement piece for band tells the story of the greek myth of Orpheus. How Orpheus used his lyre to charm all living things and how he struggled for his love Eurydice from Hades. He then failed and was latter killed by the women of Thrace. His spirit was latter reunited to his lost love and his music lived on. 
I have dedicated this composition to the Eta Mu Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia where I have served as a brother and president for the past three and half years. "

The Lyre
Orpheus was a legendary musician, poet, and prophet in ancient Greek religion and myth. The major stories about him are centered on his ability to charm all living things, even stones with his music. Orpheus fell in love with a nymph named Eurydice and blissful was their life together.

Eurydice and Hades
One day she was pursued by a son of Apollo, the minor deity Aristaeus. In her headlong eagerness to escape, she stepped on a poisonous snake, was bitten and died. Disconsolate, Orpheus found a cave which lead to Hades and followed Eurydice to the Underworld. Here his musical charms were so persuasive that the King of the Dead permitted the minstrel to take his sweetheart home with him - on one condition. This condition was so simple that it takes some explaining to account for Orpheus's failure to heed it. Perhaps he could not bear to keep his eyes off their beloved object for a moment longer. Perhaps he wanted to share his rapture at birdsong and sunshine as they approached the mouth of the cave. In any case, he did the one thing he had been forbidden. He turned around and looked at Eurydice, and she was lost to him forever.

From then on, the heart-broken musician was wandering disoriented, day after day, night after night, in total despair. He stumbled across the drunken, wild women of Thrace where they taunted him in a feast of pleasure. And so it was that group of irate women, furious for his scorn towards them, chanced upon him. Orpheus was so desperate that he did not even try to repulse their advances. The women killed him, cut his body into pieces and threw them and his lyre into a river.

The Spirit of Orpheus
It is said that his head and his lyre floated downriver to the island of Lesvos. There the Muses found them and gave Orpheus a proper burial ceremony. People believed that his grave emanated music, plaintive yet beautiful. His soul descended down to Hades where he was finally reunited with his beloved Eurydice.
