Brazilian Beats 7 continues to shine a light on the country’s wealthy musical heritage, both past and present, while acting as an honest guide for listeners seeking exciting and different musical pastures.

Volume 7 collects 20 tracks, spanning a range of styles and scenes from the more obvious to the weirder and lesser-known gems to be found throughout Brazil. There’s cutting-edge, bass-heavy new school hip hop with Karol Conka and her trailblazing producer Nave; sunshine laden soul from Djavan; a Jorge Ben cover courtesy of Junip that does the maestro’s legacy proud; funky Forro accordions from little-known Odair who used to play with Tom Ze; samba rock from SamJazz, a bonafide Sao Paulo classic, and Abilio Manuel; disco fusion from Coaty de Oliveira, taken from an album made for a restaurant no less; hard-edged bossa from the Jorge Autouri Trio; and last but not least Brazil-meets-LA funk in the shape of Jackson Conti, the unforgettable collaboration between Madlib and Azymuth’s drummer Ivan Conti.

Marcos Valle was born in Rio de Janeiro and took piano and music theory lessons as a young child. As he grew older he developed a taste for live music at bars and clubs, where he’d listen to jazz. 
With his brother, Paulo Sergio Valle, he wrote a number of hits and made his first album, Samba Demais in 1964. He headed to the United States the following year, where Walter Wanderley successfully recorded the song Samba de Verão. The songs  Preciso Aprender a Ser Só and Terra de Ninguém are also from that period as well as Samba de Maria, O Amor É Chama, Viola Enluarada (recorded with Milton Nascimento), Dia de Vitória, Gente, Seu Encanto and Ao Amigo Tom.

The second installment of Mr Bongo’s Marcos Valle Essential series. This time the focus is more on his easy listening and instrumental output.
The album also includes several Portuguese re-recordings of familiar songs such as Os Grilos, Seu Encanto and Chup Chup, I Got Away.

Marcos Valle - Estrelar

Marcos Valle is back again, this time with the almighty ‘Estrelar’, his most well known disco/boogie track co-written with Leon Ware. Added hints of Yacht Rock too!

The video, filmed in Rio in the early 1980’s, is particular special and is well worth 5 minutes of your time. Marketed as “workout music" at the time, ‘Estrelar’ was his best-selling record with a total of around 90,000 sales.

‘Estrelar’ is taken from his 1983 self titled LP released on Som Livre. 

Robson Jorge & Lincoln Olivetti - Alleluia

Two of the masters of the Brazilian Boogie sound joined forces to make a self-titled LP released in 1982 that epitamised the sound of early 80’s Rio de Janeiro. Synths and keys float over razor sharp samba, jazz and 2-step drum grooves backed by huge layers of horns. Production is as shiny, bright and ultra clean as it ever got!

‘Alleluia’ is a mid tempo groover, with rich horns, guitar, synth and vocal lines. An end of the night jam if ever there was one.

Released on the LP mentioned above and also on 7” in 1983.
