My love letter to Summer 2023/2024. 

Its been cracking summer here in old Melbourne town. There's been some amazing festivals and parties and the weather has held up nicley. With Autumn now upon us I thought its a good time to drop a new mix with some of my favourite tunes I've playing the last few months. 
Its pretty energetic & played in an intimate setting with a few close friends before heading out to see Keinmusik do their thing!

Since 2017 Beat & Path have been hollowing out a niche for their particular style of vaudevillian house music. This sixth anniversary release centres the figures who've been with the label since the start – founding members Uone and Out of Sorts (Hayden and Barton Strom), as well as festival staple and label stalwart Caly Jandro. Where its predecessor was a wide-ranging affair perfect for kick-ons, "Camp Out 002" zooms in on the quintessential Beat & Path sound: thick, restrained basslines; low-tempo percussion outmatching the energy of much faster tracks; cheeky samples from unlikely sources; and that perennial cosmic wink that permeates the back catalogue. To quote Oscar Wilde, "Life is far too important a thing ever to talk seriously about."

Approaching the label's midpoint, there's a broken-beat take from the vault – Uone's fresh take on one of the label's classics. The original was a four-on-the-floor chart-topper peppered with euphoric pianos, delicately incorporating samples from the track's namesake, Malian musician Rokia Traoré. In his 'Goodwill' remix, Uone bends Caly Jandro's source material to match this compilation's tempo and understated dynamism. Meanwhile, the remix's title is a respectful nod to Rokia's eclectic musicianship and refugee advocacy (both of which culminated in her nomination as Goodwill Ambassador for West and Central Africa).

 Here is the recording of my very first sunrise set at Burning Man 2018 in the Black Rock Desert. I started playing around 5:45 am, the lights and lasers were still glowing in the cold darkness of the night..as the songs were passing by, the sky turned blue and the horizon warmer. Burners were all facing the deep playa, waiting for the sun to appear. It was an honour to soundtrack this moment and share music in such a magical place. No matter how hard I try, words can barely describe the energy and emotions felt in that instant... I hope music can express it better. 

I'd like to thank Maxa Camp & The Gardens of Babylon for inviting me to play on this beautiful Xaman Art Car...the mystical blue deer.   I’m very grateful to have shared this moment with so many incredible souls, old and new friends.

Heute begeben wir uns mal wieder auf eine kleine Phantasiereise. 
Schließ einfach deine Augen, atme tief ein und kräftig aus. Konzentriere dich auf die entspannte Musik, gezaubert von Floloco.

Wenn du deine Augen wieder öffnest befindest du dich in einem Wald. Ein sternenbedeckter Himmel und der runde Vollmond spenden dir Licht. Während du gelassen über den Waldweg schlenderst, lässt du dich voll und ganz auf deine Umgebung ein. 

In deine Nase steigt der Duft von Kiefernzapfen, du riechst feuchtes Gras und den typischen, leicht modrigen, Geruch des Waldes.
Du siehst große Bäume, alt und knorrig. Sie sehen freundlich aus und säumen deinen Weg wie stumme Torwächter.
Unter deinen nackten Füßen fühlst du altes Laub, trockene Zweige und immer wieder kleine Steinchen zwischen den Zehen.
Mit gespitzten Ohren hörst du nach der anfänglichen Stille den Atem des Waldes. Eine Mischung aus Wind der durch die Bäume pfeift, knacken und knistern im Unterholz und die Geräusche nachtaktiver Tiere. Auf deiner Zunge schmeckst du den unverfälschten Geschmack der Natur, klar und unberührt. Vergleichbar mit dem ersten Schluck frischen Quellwassers.

Men El Sama uses samples of religious Easter choir sang by Fairouz, one of the Arabic world's most celebrated singers. The samples I used are the kind of religious music that my parents would listen to during religious celebrations in my youth. I combined those samples to a strong bass line using the traditional TB-303 to create a deep and danceable experience.
