‘Bluets’ LP was composed  between Berlin and Istanbul as a collaborative work by two female composers. 

Between 2020-2022, both composers translated their feelings of separation. Through the songs of Bluets, Günak and Kayıkçı reflect on moments and places where they could not be bodily present. They explore the concept of closeness and comfort in sorrow. Since distance magnifies the people and things you miss most, the album ‘Bluets’ became a multifaceted experience and a recollection of memories that rescue the heart when everything is torn to pieces. 

In the composition phase, Günak cut, ripped familiar sounds, and they recorded noisy soundscapes that present both artists’ personal histories and connected each of  them to ‘comforting’ sounds that they can’t access. Field recordings of Kayıkçı’s father’s machinery atelier and chaotic Istanbul soundscapes are used to create a feeling of familiarity. These personal memories are woven with the texture of dreamscapes and distant soundscapes, like melting glaciers and waterfalls, to reinforce the notion of distance.

Başak Günak is a sound artist and composer also internationally known as AH! KOSMOS in the field of electronic music. Her work includes sound art, performance, sound installation, composition for theater & contemporary dance.
