The Upload

The latest gem in the ever-inspiring Hypnus Records catalog comes from Rotterdam-based Rambadu, a relative newcomer who spent his recent years researching the energetic powers and healing properties of sound. In 2019 and 2020, Rambadu released two successful EPs on his label (the latter including a fantastic remix by Luigi Tozzi). For his collaboration with Hypnus, Rambadu delivers a four-tracker ‘Ajna’ - an incredible tribal techno journey that keeps on giving with each new listening.
Rambadu’s use of live percussions and acoustic instruments paired with hardware devices and modulated field recordings shine in its brightest light in the ‘Ajna’ EP. The closing track and our premiere for today, ‘Visie,’ is an after-hour tribal-techno delight. The driving rhythm, a heartbeat of ‘Visie,’ layered with organic percussive intricacies, is an ideal foundation for drone pads and field recordings to do their magic in the background and create quite a hypnotic atmosphere.
‘Ajna’ EP is coming out on June 24th via Hypnus Records.

Francesca is back with her art inspired radio show Architextures. 
This time the show will be based on minimalism
Emerging in New York in the 1960s, the art world moved on from the expressive and gestural paintings of the abstract expressionists and focused on sculptural objects, often from the every day, which in the words of philosopher Richard Wollheim ‘had minimal art content’. Often geometric, monochrome, engineered and in simple forms, this pared-down visual art movement sought to represent a simplified aesthetic, encouraging the viewer to focus on the material and structure, which was often geometric. 
Minimalism in music emerged simultaneously; musicians like John Cage, Terry Riley, and Philip Glass reflected the ethos of the art world, employing limited and minimal musical materials. Repetitive musical patterns or pulses, steady drones, consonant harmonies call attention to the activity of listening, by focusing on the internal processes of the music. Tune in this evening!
