Bill Mango is a special treasure. The Waterford native has been doing this island proud by throwing one of the best parties at Griessmuehle in Berlin for the past 3 years. A charismatic and vibrant character, Bill's personality is communicated perfectly through this mix.

As the sun begins to creep out from behind the clouds and spring comes again, we are served a jubilant and energetic blend of bouncy house music. With cuts from Eden Burns, DJ Texta and a forthcoming release from Westcoast Goddess, this is a sublime and groovy hour of blissed out music.

Not only a grade A party starter, Bill Mango has recently launched a record label to release the beautiful and fun music associated with his wild parties. During the current pandemic he has released two 'Sleepy Snoozy' charity compilations featuring relaxing ambient sounds to soothe your ears.

It's not just us who love Bill. He was selected by DJ Mag as one to watch this year and his debut release on his label has received praise and support from everyone from Peach to Kornel Kovács. There's a track on HAAi's upcoming debut album, Baby, We're Ascending, called "Louder Always Better." That kind of sums up her approach right there. (See also: "Biggest Mood Ever.") Since her first record, 2017's "Be Good" her approach to dance music has been to make as dense, overwhelming and uplifting as possible. Much has been made of her background in psychedelic rock, which definitely informs records like the muggy, intense Motorik Voodoo Bush Doof Musik, but it's not the whole story. A better point of reference might be DJ Harvey lost in the Australian desert, but comparisons are beside the point. At this point, HAAi is completely unique.

The Australian producer has made quite a name for herself as a DJ in her adopted hometown of London, and while her album shoots off in all directions—from ecstatic rave-pop to sultry stunners—her RA Podcast captures the spark that makes her such a beloved force behind the decks. Weaving powerful techno from artists like Atrip and Piska Power with weirder, adventurous music courtesy of Cocktail Party Effect and Sha Sha Kimbo—plus a few tastes of HAAi's new album—it's an eclectic mix that's as windy and unpredictable as her records. Plus, it ends with classic track by The Cure. That's just good taste.

Hard work can pay off. Just ask Elisa Bee. The Sardinian producer and DJ has been working diligently since 2007, exploring and then refining a style of techno that has that rare, hard-to-put-your-finger-on quality: a soulful reverence, paying homage to the old days and the originators without just copying them. She struck it (relatively) big with an EP on Unknown To The Unknown in 2019 and has since become a fixture on labels like Hardgroove, Symbiosis and Balkan Vinyl, imprints that specialize in a kind of meat-and-potatoes techno that underlines both the fundamentals and subtle innovation. She's also a resident at Milan's Tempio Del Futuro Perduto, which she talks about at length in the interview below.

Now, in 2023, Elisa Bee is part of a vanguard of younger techno producers who carry the flag for the '90s without resorting to pastiche or the bigger-is-better aesthetic of much of the rest of the contemporary European techno landscape. Her RA Podcast is as buttery smooth as it is propulsive, flying through tracks from like-minded artists like Austin Ato, Nocow and Black Girl/White Girl. Sleek, vintage and futuristic all at once.

My Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1, originally aired Aug 2018. Here it is without the radio drops.

I’m usually not much of a preplanned mix person, I massively prefer playing to a crowd and interacting with the atmosphere. Combine that with the extremely not insignificant fact that this is one of the most important and longest running mix series around, this was quite a challenge!

I spent a long time gathering these 40 songs and playing with the arrangement (even made a couple new edits). I included songs that have been staples in my sets, plus old favorites from before I was a DJ. Eternal shouts to Nathan Micay, Aurora Halal, Overmono, E-Talking and Koehler for letting me include your dope as hell unreleased new music (plus two unreleased songs from myself). 

The last song is by Oakland band Them Are Us Too and this mix is dedicated to those who lost their lives in a diy music space a year and a half ago. Your music and love lives on. FUCK technocrat capitalist greed in the bay. One of Ghost Ship’s spiritual predecessors, Ghost Town in Oakland, was one of the first gigs I ever played, back in 2011 right around the time when I was realizing that I loved making music and DJing. 

If someone told me then that I’d eventually make an Essential Mix and be touring around the world, I’d be incredulously curious to see just how that would unfold. It’s been wild. Thank you to everyone who has listened and danced with me since then.

If you ever got bogged down in YouTube’s recommendation algorithm, we bet that you have already stumbled upon the most influential Czech digger a.k.a. Moskalus. He belongs to this new wave of curators who contribute to feeding the whole community as his faultless daily commitment to uploading gems helps building bridges between artists, labels and clubs. He’s been running his own channel and blessing his 40k loyal followers with colorful left-field house and techno beats for 5 years now, premiering and putting the spotlight on top quality underground artists (remember the dreamy lo-fi trip from J.Albert that hit 500k views). At the same time, a virtuous network effect inescapably occurred, leading him to sharpen his eclectic tastes and grow his dj occupation. The Ostrava-based selector has curated one hour of breathtaking and energetic house cuts from Ben Rau, Kerri Chandler or Slamb. Listen very carefully: this is a pure masterclass and a goldmine for the house heads out there. From the first minutes, you will be saying only one thing: track id please?
