Stuck & Situated Composition/Instrument played at Musicking in Uncertain Times at York University, Toronto, Ontario
Stuck ‘n’ Situated performance resides at the intersection of performance, instrument design and composition with two modes of entanglements: controlled input, and inside out. Stuck ‘n’ Situated is performed through a sympoietic digital music instrument that is dynamic, responsive, complex, and situated at the nexus of improvisation and interactivity. Stuck ‘n’ Situated is conceptualized and enacted through different listening modes, the sounds of the found objects in proximity, and the sounds mediated by midi controllers, that were initially built, tested and can be performed in-person or in telepresence, as the experience of “being in time and [cyber]space”. It entails accumulated experiences of being physically restrained and immobility, with ‘just enough’ amount of micromovements to exhaust the being-in-time.
