A year ago my good friend @Arutani and I spent 3 never ending days and nights inside his cave in Basel, Switzerland. The result was a trippy melange of organic sounds, a touch of melancholy and lots of little bits and pieces in between. 

Each collaboration is special in its own way, and this one taught me how to rework sounds until they create something totally new. Happy Birthday and lots of kisses @arutani!

Arutani & Caleesi - Ennui (Original Mix)

'Take Away is an Israeli label that has a deep and stripped back sound fusing melodic elements with techy grooves, and the new release is a special package containing new remix versions of Eduardo De La Calle’s track “The Stand” featuring the vocals of Joolz.

The original version was released on Take Away as part of a three track EP at the end of 2017, and the new remixes have been provided by UNER, Marvin & Guy, KMLN, Soulfeed and ORBE.

Eduardo De La Calle is a popular artist with a back catalogue that includes releases on other labels such as Cocoon, Mule Musiq, Planet E Communications plus many more, and the popularity of “The Stand” original mix is what prompted the label to compile this incredible collection of reworks.

Each of the artists has put their own stamp on things with UNER being first up in the track order. UNER is known for his melodic style released via labels such as Last Night On Earth, Suara and Bedrock. With this remix he has stayed true to the original’s stripped back groove, but lifts the mood with his own melody and additional percussive textures.

Italian duo Marvin & Guy keep the original’s atmosphere but their epic remix adds dreamy synths and ethereal textures that complement the prominent lead vocal. Fans of Marvin & Guy’s previous output on Life And Death, Correspondent and Kompakt will not de disappointed with their latest offering here.

Soulfeed return to Take Away following their recent EP on the label and have also featured on imprints such as Nite Grooves, plus MBF. Manipulating the pitch of the vocal their trippy version focuses on percussive grooves and an eerie atmosphere.

Regulars on labels such as Sol Selectas and Bar 25 Music, the KMLN duo also focus on percussion and build their own melodic groove complete with new pads. Keeping the vocal as a key feature here, this eloquent rework is both stylish and chic with a laidback vibe.

Finishing the release is a techno focused remix from ORBE who has previously featured music on Be As One, Hivern Discs and Analog Solutions. Warm analogue sounds and mechanical percussion combined with a touch of acid, his abstract remix is the toughest piece on this magnificent release.'

Deeper Meaning

'Olivier Giacomotto needs no introduction, but we're going to give you one anyway. The French DJ and producer has been a mainstay of the international techno scene for years, boasting top notch releases on Suara, Noir Music, Tronic, and many other influential labels. He made his Yoshitoshi debut in October with a stunning remix for label owner Sharam's 'Amnesi' and now returns with his own EP 'Elle / Lui,' a fantastic two-tracker that displays Olivier's refined diversity and prowess as a producer.

'Elle' is a standout A-side, a hypnotic groover that walks a fine line between melodic techno and darker sounds. Sustained pads and rhythmic synth hits develop throughout the track creating a trancelike and ethereal atmosphere, while dominating drum fills burst in like cannons. 'Lui' on the other hand is tribal at its finest and would fit perfectly in Burning Man-inspired sets, with its cacophony of percussion and trippy synth riffs. The track's dancing arpeggios morph through filter-modulated permutations as the groove propels itself forward with big conga hits and layered shakers. Both tracks will make bodies sweat in the club, and the EP is a consistently impressive showing from Olivier and a fine addition to Yoshitoshi's catalogue.'

'Spring is coming and shows itself in all it's colors on our Spring Compilation 2019. Lead by Einmusik's melodic „Geyser" it also bridges the gap to still colder club nights with Julian Wassermann's „Hommage" . Also the transition from hot club nights to warm open airs can be heard in Radiotherapie and Thomas Gandeys „Arcadium". Finally the development to the the hot time of the year is completed melodically and rhythmically with Roumex's „Avion" and Schlepp Geist & Matthias Schuell's „Indigo". We are very much looking forward to summer!'

Closing out the 'Soul Search' remix package is Australian producer and DJ Dexter Crowe. The Sydney native is a budding artist and an integral part of the When We Dip team at its Montreal HQ. His remix of Hosini's title track brings the dance-floor to life with a thick groove and an enthralling atmospheric touch. What's more, it marks his long-awaited debut release.
