A brand new guest on the show is always a treat. Please welcome Travis Christian for his debut!! He brings 2 hours of house and techno full of grooves and moves that we just love to hear. 

Some words from the man himself:

"Lately I've been giving a good deal of thought to the concept of resonance. In the natural world we observe objects that resonate with particular frequencies. A certain length sound wave can cause the right crystal to vibrate, even sing. Tuning forks resonate our ear drums, or not, confirming that we can or cannot hear a particular frequency. The eqs and filters producer use on our tracks allow us to increase the resonance of particular frequencies within a synth note or sample. So when we say something resonates with us, what we really mean is that it connects to our frequency. It's on our wavelength. It matches our vibration. While no single track, song or sound could ever express who we are in total, an aesthetic, a "whole vibe" can.

Having just launched and started the process of building my own label Shadow Mined Recordings, I am very thankful to Aidan and Synthetiquette Radio for the opportunity to share the sound that represents my resonant frequency. For this mix, I wanted to put together a set of tracks, some older, some new, at least one that may never see the light of day, that reflect as closely as possible the aesthetic, the frequency that SMR is built on and continually aims for. It's a sound that resonates and reflects back to me parts of myself I perhaps would not have discovered in its absence. It describes who I am in a meaningful way where words fail. In a sense, I consider this vibe, this feeling, an introduction to who I am and what I'm about, not only musically, but at a deeper, unspoken level I am still, and always will be, in the process of discovering."

FREQUENCY UNDERGROUND INTERVIEW WITH EMMERSE:

◾Real Name: Allan Emerson

◾How did you come up with your dj name: It's a merging of my last name and "immerse." I was deep into the early 2000s progressive house sounds when I landed on the name, and I wanted to bring that same experience to the floor: slowly evolving sets, long seamless transitions, spacey soundscapes, and emotional moments paired with a fair share of darkness.

◾How and when did you get into djing: Growing up in a mid-sized town in South Dakota, there wasn't a lot of exposure to electronic music except for whatever pop crossover garbage would make it onto the radio. While at college in Denver, my roommate introduced me to a few DJs he was into, and that opened the door to find other DJs and genres. I was never one to listen to lyrics in the first place, and instead I'd listen to how something was sung, or the music accompanying the words. So, electronic music was a natural fit because I could focus on the track's energy, patterns, and elements without needing to relate to whatever was being sung. It really became an obsession after going to clubs for the first time and hearing DJs in a live setting. I would spend hours trying to create mixes using ripped songs from CDs and audio software in an attempt to recreate that experience. After college, a friend wanted to sell his equipment and records, and I snatched them up. That was a little over 20 years ago and I haven't looked back since.

◾Who are your musical influences and what is your inspiration: Definitely too many influences to name over the years, but lately: John Digweed, Hernán Cattáneo, Solomun, Lee Burridge, Adriatique, and Maceo Plex. I should also mention a bunch of Tomorrowland, Boiler Room, Mixmag Lab, and Cercle sets on Youtube -- they have provided countless hours of workday music. For inspiration, it always comes from finding and sharing great music via playing out, assembling a mix, or doing Twitch streams.

◾Describe your sound as a DJ: My home base is progressive house, but I definitely can go off the rails into minimal/funky/jackin/chicago house, or bang it out with tech and bass house. I've dabbled in techno, drum & bass and trap/dubstep, and have done some downtempo mixes too. It really just depends on the setting and my mood in that moment. A session can go many different directions, depending on where the Muse takes me. The best moments are when I feel like I'm experiencing the set unfolding as if I wasn't the one making the selections. I call it being on the train, and sometimes it's really hard to step off the ride.

◾What does the future hold in store for you as an artist: Going to continue building the scene here with the Gravity team with our large and small events, and continue to play shows over in what I feel like is our sister city, Atlanta. We have some close ties to the scene over there so there's a lot of cross-pollination with our crews. Other regional bookings would be great too - I'm a recent transplant to the South so there's much to explore. That said, DJing is my therapy, so even if I never play in front of another person again, I'll be finding and playing music until my ears fall off.

Back in April of this year, Synthetiq Frequencies got together and kicked off an incredible partnership at one of our favorite venues, Rusty Lotus. Double Helix played a hybrid live set that, to this date, they believe to be their best work yet. While every live set has improved on the last, and they've been proud of their new direction and innovations, this set was surrounded by an electric dance floor who were beyond receptive of what they brought to the table.
