“Tell me how we would go on living”': you can consider these words as an essence for our new compilation Hyperboloid 2022. We have taken them from the lyrics of a new song by Gleb Raumskaya. Here you will find all the musical answers to the question of the musician from Omsk. Echoes of jungle, trance, breakbeat, ambient, hip-hop, bass and hyper-pop mix here into a whirlwind of feelings and styles. The collection starts with a farewell: our old friend Cadeu says goodbye to the departing year with ciao. 
You can find a lot of familiar names here: Pixelord, Famitsu, Summer of Haze, Koloah and Max Dahlhaus released their records on Hyperboloid this year. Long-time residents of the label SP4K, BOGUE, Sangam, Zakladki, Fisky and Nphonix are also represented with their special tracks. Sport DJ and ellija, new producers on our label, introduce themselves as the fresh blood of Russian electronic music. And our fellow labels Aelita, Fuselab and INTERNETGHETTO send their regards through New Sylveon, WOLS, Broosnica, Dead Xice, PORTWAVE, Circuit Aesthetics and 3XPERIENCE.

Hyperboloid 2022 is also distributed as the NFT audio-visual collection to celebrate our departure to metaverse in 2022 consisting 22 items: 21 tracks by 21 artists and 1 album. We’re very excited to welcome Jon Tho’s soul-stirring sounds to our catalogue this Summer! The Portuguese producer is also the brain behind Surveillance Music - an imprint that has been releasing its own unique brand of emotionally charged-come-tech-heavy sonics since 2019. While he initially cut his teeth under a different moniker, since launching Jon Tho in 2020, he’s achieved releases on Galacy, Blackout, Elevate and of course Surveillance.

The playfully titled ‘Don’t Want To Know’ unfolds with unsettling pads, twinkling synths, and a driving rhythm thanks to its pumping bassline. These elements are further complemented by warped vocal samples and gliding sweeps that litter the arrangement, resulting in a heart-wrenching piece which is suited for headphones and dancefloors alike. 

On the slightly more joyfully-named ‘Smile’ Jon teams up with one half of rising duo Circumference, in the form of Freshney. Together they deliver more thumping rhythms, in a track filled to the brim with bulging bass, emotive piano chords and powerful momentum. The imaginative structuring helps build tension, culminating in an expansive soundscape, dense with harmonic twinkles that are sure to bring a grin to your 
face this year. 

On August 5th 2022, we are pleased to bring you music from a country that should also be known for its upcoming drum and bass scene, and will have you asking - “Yeah but, have you heard of Jon Tho?!”

Forbidden Society has embodied what it takes to be an independent artist in the digital world. A label owner, head of a clothing line and a DJ, he’s proved himself to be a multi-faceted part of the drum & bass community, something which has carried through into his music. As well as being part of the hard-lined trio 3RDKND, his solo work has also gained him recognition. However, since his ‘Deadbox’ EP his music has taken a different route, featuring a more stripped back sound with minimalist roots, a change in direction which has been heralded by tastemakers. And this is something which is set to continue with a brand-new album, set to drop on his self-titled Forbidden Society imprint. 
‘Liminal Point’ makes a return to the sounds which the Czech producer first started to explore throughout his ‘Deadbox’ EP. From the ruminating, rolling drum strokes of ‘Bottom Check’, the percussion heavy sounds of ‘Pin’, to the half time breakdowns of ‘No Boundaries’ and the winding rhythms of ‘Sold out Ego’, you’re taken deep into Forbidden Society’s murky world. ‘Dreamcatcher’ continues the track list, building an ethereal soundscape with ghost-like samples, whilst ‘Swamp Rave’ is more reminiscent of the producer’s cross breed roots. Title-track ‘Liminal Point’ focuses on a more melodic, rising synthesis meanwhile tracks ‘Explorer’ and ‘Death Born’ take you through different subsections of the drum & bass genre. Once again, ‘Always Imperfect’ makes a return to the half-time vibes although this time with a disjointed twist, followed by a more liquid themed offering in the form of ‘Ocean of Thoughts’. ‘Peaks’ with its bass heavy distortion and the 140 edit of ‘Don’t Stop’ alongside Killa P then draws the LP to a close. It proves the album is one of Forbidden Society’s most versatile deliveries to date, further highlighting his artistic self-discovery.
Forbidden Society continues his quest and does so successfully, while remaining independent.
