With a fresh take on Afro-Tech, it also incorporates some tribal rhythms, and a haunting African vocal destined to take your mind places.

Overall the production style is detailed, spacious, and very mature for such a new talent ... AIDON is on SMAAK's radar as someone to pay close attention to!

On this episode of AIDON Archives, I return to the "Wake Me Up With Techno" series - a hard hitting 15 minute mix of my top 5 techno tracks of the week, perfect for starting your day on the right foot. I usually don't like to do quick mixing as I feel that each song should have its full journey to people listening, but for the purposes of this mix its all about keeping the energy high and the pace even higher so that you can wake up feeling ready to destroy the day as hard as these tracks would destroy a dancefloor !

Starting off this episode I feature Justus Reim, an up and coming producer from Würzburg, Germany. His latest EP "Synthetic Order" out on Synthetic Affect Records [https://www.beatport.com/label/synthetic-affect-records/94974] is undeniably going to destroy dancefloors once the clubbing world comes back to life. I'm really excited to follow his music and I hear via the grapevine that he has some really exciting releases coming out this year so keep a look out for that ! 

As always I've got our friends behind Gravity Records (BE) [https://www.beatport.com/label/gravity-records-be/90505], Bolster, on the line up with a hard hitting track called Blister of Hope, out on Alaula Music. Its safe to say that once clubs are open again, they will be the very top of my must see acts and I hope they'll include this track in the set ;)

Also featured is The Reactivits with his latest single "Positive Energy" out on Immersion [https://www.beatport.com/release/positive-energy/3328950] - There is no doubt that he is on the road to becoming one of the techno greats with his constant string of high quality releases on some of the best labels in the world.

Next on the lineup is another up and coming producer from Paris, KAMI (FR) with his latest track "Behind", 1 of 3 amazing tracks off his latest EP "The Path" out on  Aesthetics Records [https://www.beatport.com/release/the-path/3316441] - I have no doubt he will cement his name in the techno world in no time at all.

A really huge moment for me - Listening to this Friday evening show on 5fm as a kid is what formed my early love for house music and to this day I credit it for planting one of the seeds that eventually lead to my unbreakable bond with music. The Expanse

The last few months have been some of the most testing times for millions of people. Often things have felt hopeless. But in among the personal challenges we face everyday there is always an opportunity to see things differently. Scotty Carroll and I have been part of the same spirit animal music tribe for over 15 years. Music has brought us together countless times and always formed the foundation of our friendship. This time it brought us together in the best way yet (For which I have become even more grateful for Scott's friendship over the years). In this time of extreme separation and lockdown, we decided to create our first original track together. 13,300 km separate us , but thanks to the world we live in we were able to collaborate on this project over the last few months. The project started out as a small idea, but as we began working on it more, the song took on a much deeper meaning than we had originally envisioned. The song is about the one thing that no one can take away from you. Hope. During these lockdowns we have had some of our most basic freedoms temporarily taken away from us. But, no matter how bad a situation might be, no one can take your attitude towards a situation away from you. I learned this from Viktor E. Frankl in his book "Man's search for Meaning". Hope is something you generate from within yourself. And you should allow that hope to light the path ahead of you. This track morphs from something dark and uncomfortable to something that forms the idea of Hope. We tried to capture this process of how hope is born and can lead to what is ultimately a quiet moment of internal peace. Our hope is that for anyone that is struggling during these times, a quiet moment with music can help you light up inside, even if the world around you seems dark and ominous.

Coalescing his South African roots with an unwavering infatuation with the deeper spectrum of underground electronic music, London-based producer AIDON focuses on the dusky, esoteric foundations of Progressive & Melodic House.

Known by his peers as “Don”, an unapologetic Godfather reference, AIDON leans into themes of respect, and family, both of which are part and parcel of the underground music community. For AIDON, music is who he is, his identity and his driving force. He believes dancefloors have the power to bring together people from all walks of life for a fleeting moment of escapism from the real world, a place where all negativity is left behind, and human bonds are ignited through sonic frequencies and dance.

Hailing from Johannesburg, the city played a vital role in shaping AIDON's early love for Afro House and Tech. However, it wasn't until his introduction to Cape Town's underground scene that his gravitation towards the deeper sounds of progressive Techno began to take hold. It was also in Cape Town where AIDON started Funktion Koncepts with some friends, a company that specialises in providing the mighty Funktion-One sound systems to Techno festivals, with this venture igniting his passion to get involved behind the decks.

After a life changing two years of backpacking and attending Europe's biggest Techno festivals, AIDON settled down in London. Inspired by his experiences and influenced by artists such as BolsteR, Rodriguez Jr, Einmusik, Cristoph and Booka Shade, AIDON's mystical and progressive strain of Techno is built around forceful, epic and uplifting melodies that promise to transport listeners to otherworldly, cosmic realms.
