"It took a while before it was this. It was a place to find clothes made by people lost in a minefield of ideas who liked to party. It was a place for temporary visions that turned out to happen and were then forgotten. It was always a place to find a new circle of friends. A place for expression where the throttle had been loosened and we all careered into the next day and the day after that. We all need to meet in the flesh away from the pixels and connect our first thoughts. Somewhere to ruffle our own feathers and take off on a phantom flight. It has been all this and it still is. Only now there is a record label to try and actually document a little of all of that. Welcome to Sameheads. 

This record is a morsel from the community. Novo Line, Twoonky, Kruton, Kris Baha and Antoni Maiovvi and Balance Crew aka Dane Close & L. Zylberberg. There was a low end rumble as the music began to trickle downstairs and into the basement. Gathered in the cellar there was a small crowd, amidst the fog and dust they began to dance in time with the flurries of percussion and the twinge of electronics which echoed deep into the night. They would be here for a long time, a unit inspired by the deep, sophisticated roar of each element. Their feet would move in time, back and forth, again and again. 

Flippen Disks is a new record label to emerge from Amsterdam, the imprint is run by Monty who also appears on the debut EP. He delivers one solo track and one collaborative effort alongside PTDD for a release which is distinguished and intelligent. The EP features forward thinking percussion and danceable material whilst is also hugely listenable and unique. 

This one is special.

The branches of the trees were bare, a hangover from the cold winter days that seemed to roll on forever. We were quick on the approach to spring now, eagerly awaiting the soft pink of the first blossom to reveal itself. Like clockwork as the days grew warmer the colours became more vibrant and vivid; the grass a bright green and the flowers blooming in shades of blue, yellow and red. It's wonder what the outside can do for one's mind...

It's been two years since Budapest native Imre Kiss shared his solo efforts with the world. Following that release, his Strangers EP on Lobster Theremin sub-label Mörk, he makes his way to local label Dalmata Daniel for another inter-dimensional adventure. He joins previous artists who've graced the label - the likes of Cardopusher, DJ Overdose and Norwell - with Oimachi, the title track of which was written during a tour across Japan. Imre Kiss brings emotive notes, acid subs and tight drum work across the three original tracks, which are backed up by a remix from Den Haag's finest, Intergalactic Gary who takes the lead track into mind-expanding realms.

Her golden lips were the talk of the town as she walked aimlessly between bars under the cloak of darkness. Many had tried their luck but few had ever gotten close to her tainted heart. She was fierce and cold, golden and electric like the flashing lights of the city's underbelly itself. She was back in town..

Now this one is just a little bit special. Chicken Lips are back and mean business on a new EP for Phantasy. The infamous nu disco pioneers return with a wonderful new release, perfectly tied up by a guest appearance from Dj Sotofett who brings the heat on remix duties. Summer is very much here and we're heading to the West Coast...

2020 will be a year that we will hardly forget. A year of reflection, introspection and sudden changes, many of them forced. How will we remember it after some time? We don't know yet, but the testimony for that future is being shaped today, as always, through artistic creation. This is the case of Fernanda Arrau, founder of the record label, United Colors of Rhythm. She has decided to baptize the fifth EP of her career and her label’s second release, as ‘Quiebre’ (breakdown in English). The EP was created a couple of years ago, almost entirely in the confinement of Madrid (one of the epicenters of the first European wave of Coronavirus) at the DJ and Chilean producer’s home.

Rich with FM synthesis, infectious rhythms and evocative motifs, Rester Partir transports us to a fantasised Africa, found onstage at a Lausanne Theatre in 1985. Scoring a story about a 19th Century French missionary’s trip to Timbuktu, Swiss composer Louis Crelier created his own sonic landscape, capturing the exoticism and otherness of an imaginary Mali. Though the hypnotic rhythms and cascading mallets conjure images of the continent, the queasy keys, dubby idents and synthetic sonatas suggest something more interplanetary - picture James T. Kirk and Spock beaming down into the ochre dust of a ruined city. 

Aided and abetted by a selection of ambient interludes, jazzy diversions and polyrhythmic excerpts from Crelier’s film work, as well as the exceptionally Balearic Deep In The Dale from TV series Alpine Academy, the largely unreleased compositions on Rester Partir finally break the fourth wall to find the wider audience they deserve.

Fresh imprint Caldeira open their account with the first vinyl retrospective of Swiss composer Louis Crelier, whose FM sorcery and LinnDrum drama takes the listener away to an imaginary Africa. 
Standing proud amid the sound waves, Caldeira emerges with a singular mission; to bring us music with hidden depth. Whether it’s a reissue or retrospective, archival or original, each release reflects the Michelin-grade tastebuds of label founder Camille Bertin AKA Plastic Bamboo. 
Operating out of the shadow of Les Puces, the Saint-Ouen digger, DJ and producer has turned those in the know onto a wealth of zouk, boogie, proto-house and Balearic bombs over the past couple of years, but it seems he’s saved something truly special for this first release.

Returning to Not An Animal for the first time in 3 years, Ian Blevins crashes in with a massive EP that results in some dreamy electronica primed for the dance. 

The Lobster Who Was Criminally Insane loads up the A1 with a track that veers towards the progressive house formula, whilst building on the more natural electronic blueprints. It’s rigorous and deadly, as synths build the pressure and detonate with devastating effects. 

Discodromo make their NAAR debut with a destructive remix of The Lobster Who Was Criminally Insane. Stripping the track down and driving it down a more percussive avenue, the leads melodies are used to create an immense breakdown with epic results.

Air Penguin carries on the same vibe as a refined mid-set floor filler, with an illustrious canopy of dreamy synths and counter melodies that rattle subs across the globe. 

Chida finishes off the 12" with his welcome return to the label with another remix that does the damage. Bringing the more offensive elements of the track, it takes the atmosphere and runs with it, adding some immense tension but remaining focused on the floor.

To close, The Lobster Who Was Criminally Insane (Beatless Mix) serves as the digital bonus, showing how a track can be made for the dance-floor without any percussion.
