fadaul is maybe our fav discovery from traveling north africa. his raw and energetic recordings are pretty stand alone in the arab world. we have invested quite some time into research but we were not able to find too much infos about this guy. a mystical figure.

Next up on Violet's Portuguese music label @naivetrax, Eris Drew and Octo Octa have teamed up for a rousing split EP, titled 'Devotion'.

According to the press release, 'Devotion' was "written in the weeks immediately before and after a special time the girls spent together in February of 2018, when Maya (Octo Octa) went to heaven and Eris Drew accessed the realm of the Motherbeat from a port deep inside."

Ahead of the EP's release on October 26, Octo Octa has shared 'Beam Me Up' (Goddess Mix). Filled with her lush signature synth sounds, the frenetic breaks and percussion in the track swarm around her gentle melody like hard-working bees trying to please their queen (or goddess for that matter).

Cairo is not just a great city for finding Arabic records. Various communities left their fingerprints on the city, evident from its architecture and the things you find at fleamarkets and in antique shops. Here's a mix of the best Armenian 78rpm records I found. 

Armenian music where European, Turkish and Middle Eastern music seems to be melted into one. My guess is a couple of these are religious, with a cantor singing in a melancholic operatic way, others are for other social puroses than religion; dances or music salons. Even the more upbeat stuff has this incredible ghostly depth to it, to my ears, with acombinations of percussion, low keys on the piano or oud and ethereal voices. There's some wilder instrumental stuff as well and a nice early take on Misirlou.

I did my best to properly record them and clean them up digitally without loosing the ghostly, direct sound they possess. Rather a lot of work! This is a companion mix to the Greek one I've posted: https://soundcloud.com/milansound/greek-record-center
