A poem written by the Irish writer James Joyce which I put to music and recorded using audacity, an old yamaha keyboard, guitar and a drum sample which I slowed way down and added distortion.

I was inspired to write this parody (never ending story) after talking with my daughter about everything... 
It's hard to believe the lockdown is still ongoing and so much censorship, scare mongering, and unnecessary restrictions along with it... So much suffering is being caused by the lockdown here in my country as well as all over the world more so than the virus that has taken centre stage for over a year now.

I Wrote this for my uncle Joe, my father's brother. He died tragically when I was aged 12 and left a big void in our lives but I've so many great memories of him, he was a brilliant artist and used to teach me different techniques and I loved drawing with him, he loved Italy and rock and roll music... I loved visiting him and this is one of the only photos I have of him and me together 💜

I'm reassured in a small way
by the sound of raindrops falling 
as I lay here in my bed.

Waiting for dawn

She's waiting for dawn when the dewdrops will sit, on every blade of grass and the sky will be lit.... 
with just enough light, to see but not be seen, as she disappears softly just like a wakened dream.

She clutches her bag, her hands start to shake, as the panic grows her will starts to break.
A few more minutes more, another cup of tea and she'll leave this sad life and finally be free.

My blood on your hands.
too many times, too many times, you have broken me down.
Tears on my face, as you creep nearer, your breath loaded as I make no sound.

She stands at the door breathing in the fresh air, She knows deep down its the last chance if she dares. 
No more telling lies, no more scared for her life, no more breaks and bruises. 
No more being his wife.

Tears on my face, as I run faster, my heart thumping as I leave this place.

( original song I wrote based on a woman trying to escape her abusive husband. I started writing this with this visual in my mind but also used my own experiences of a past abusive relationship and the feeling of being frozen/trapped based on abuse I experienced as a child)

Baby of mine (Dumbo)

This song is a love story of sorts, a temptress who is luring in this man with her wild ways, getting him to leave his normal mundane life behind and live with her in the forest of blue. In my mind this had a fairy tale feel to it but with a darker element...  The music I feel works great with the piano and strings, giving it a great atmosphere and really fits in well with the storyline

The idea that so many people have a part of themselves folded away like a piece of clothing in the back of the wardrobe afraid to let that part be known... being left with the feeling that a younger version of themselves is still out there, lost in a kind of limbo.

There's a beautiful statue at Rosses point County Sligo by sculpture Niall Bruton which was made to honour and remember all the fishermen and sailors who lost their lives at sea and for all those who waited on shore...
The woman stands with arms stretched out to sea and she holds so much sad emotion and beauty and I thought there must be so many stories full of loss and suffering from living this kind of life and that's what this song is about 💜

Thanks to my daughter Lucy for the lovely artwork I'm using here and my son Dylan who did the cool sound effect at the start of this track 😁 A lighthearted tune I wrote one day a few years ago when I was thinking in circles and feeling overwhelmed!
