@fatherfiguretunes is the genre-blending project of Matt Weishaupt and Matt McLaren—two longtime collaborators from Albany, NY, who fuse Golden Era hip-hop, glitch-hop, jamtronica, and experimental bass into a unique sonic signature.

Formed as a solo project in 2017 and expanded into a duo in 2022, Father Figure channels the spirit of J Dilla, DJ Premier, and Pete Rock, filtered through the lens of modern electronic music. Their live sets blur the lines between DJ performance, live remixing, and full-band improvisation.

We happily announce our next installment from our Liquid Future Compilation series.
We’ve always had a love for the deeper, sweeter, introspective and more uplifting versions of our beautiful bass music genres like Liquid Drum & Bass, Future Garage, Halftime, Footwork-Jungle and the other sounds these genres influence, are some of our favorites.  We also love hearing artists who traditionally produce some other forms of bass music, bring their vibe into the more ‘Future’ or ‘Liquid’ styles as it creates a fun new way of hearing or envisioning where these tunes could fit. Outside of that, we just love listening to stuff that is melodic, easy on the ears and also takes you on a bit of a journey. We hope you enjoy our selections and take another trip into the ‘Liquid Future’.

Some tracks never make it.

Not for lack of heart,  but because the stars don’t always align. Management says no. Emails slip through the void. Plans change, timelines collapse. We’ve been part of plenty of wild collabs and brilliant ideas that never saw daylight.

This one nearly joined that list. Well it didn't, really. 

But with the greenlight from the man himself, we’re proud to finally share a rare and unreleased VIP version of “Bodega Boys”, a track originally found on Tripp St.’s 2024 breakout album Liberosis via OdyZey Music (CloZee’s label). Featuring the razor-sharp delivery of Sir Bishop and now drenched in bass, and boom bap swagger, this Willdabeast flip drags the original through our horn-drenched, glitch-happy, genreless playground.

We added mindful spoken word from the legendary Wayne Dyer on the intro and outro, something to anchor the chaos in wisdom and mindfullness. A breath between the basslines. A reminder that even in the storm, there’s still clarity if you listen close.

The original “Bodega Boys” was a standout on Liberosis — Bishop’s Biggie-like baritone rides a classic rhythm before Tripp St. yanks the floor out with wobbly, wonky heat. But this version? It’s dirtier. Grittier. Hornier (literally and metaphorically). It hits harder, and maybe hits home a little deeper too. Did we mention it's available for a free download?

We should all live in liberosis.
Let go of what was. Embrace what is.
