Recorded 2018-2020, I embarked on this project to keep myself busy during the first year of lockdown brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. With all this newfound time, I wanted to really push myself out of my comfort zone creatively. I ended up diving headfirst into the world of sound design and synthesis. Although decidedly a new direction sonically, this project also marks a return to my roots in another way, by pulling inspiration from the mashcore, breakcore, and internet music I used to listen to at age 16. Having to rely on the internet solely for social interaction, a number of these songs were written in part or wholly during twitch livestreams in the middle of the night where my viewers would give me feedback and silly ideas of things to add to each track. These have been paired with some other miscellaneous odds and ends from 2018 and 2019, resulting in a multi-genre journey through teenage nostalgia, trauma processing, and complete isolation. This is The Dawn of The Dachshund.

You find yourself on a slippery dip, or perhaps a slippery terrace of some kind. Your footing now as questionable as some things you said at that dinner party four years ago. Now it is your own face staring back at yourself with a funny look. Tipsy comments of the past seem less pertinent considering the situation at hand. An unfortunate breeze pushes you over the edge. The final straw on the camel’s back. Perhaps a cool change is coming. Maybe it was simply a fart from a passing pigeon. Either way you are now in a state of plummet. As you gain momentum you realise you never truly appreciated the sturdy, level grounds on which you used to stand. Between the blur of swiftly passing landscapes you spy an EP directly below you, a collision imminent, your trajectory determined. You have no choice but to click on the link and listen.
