“I think that there are of course people with new ideas but I see too often that these new ideas aren’t really rewarded as much as someone copying someone else. If I were asked ‘Is electronic music an innovative form of music?’ I probably would have to say no.”

“When we see films in black and white, it feels like another time and space. I also look at the fact that it’s colourless, and the music is shaped by that. It is not colourful music, and I express it in very slight ways.”

“Especially in my generation, we were brought up on television. And I think that we are programmed to understand, to believe things that we see with our eyes. It can help us understand even the thing that we think we know a lot about when you apply moving images to it, when you begin to show the things that you have been understanding with your ears.”

“Of course you can watch a DJ DJing and doing his thing… You can occasionally see a documentary about someone’s life and what it took to become a superstar. But we don’t have anything yet that shows you in a moving image what you feel when you are in a club.”

Rolando Ray Rocha - @rolando000 grew up in south west Detroit, a Hispanic district, he was heavily influenced by his cultural Latin rhythms and percussion. Inspired from an early age by his musician father, he pursued his own interest in music and became well known and respected within the community. It was later when he heard @axis-jeff-mills in 1985 as "The Wizard" that he discovered the innovative sounds of Techno. Through a mutual friend he was introduced to Mike Banks and joined Underground Resistance in 1994.
In 1999 'Jaguar' although not Rolando's first release on UR turned perceptions of Techno on their head, breaking into other genres of dance music and becoming a classic in the boxes of DJs such as @danny-tenaglia-officia, @carl-cox, @pauloakenfold, and @gillespeterson. The track has a long legacy of reworking and lives on fifteen years later inspiring audiences from all genres.
As of November 2004, Rolando left both Underground Resistance and his Los Hermanos project behind.
2014 Rolando has launched his own label R3 (Roland Rocha Records) and will exclusively release his own music on his label.
Rolando now a Dj for almost thirty years continues to work internationally as a Dj and continues to hold a residency at the notorious and enigmatic Berlin club Berghain.

@Luke-Slater has been DJing since the late 1980s, and by the 90s, his many aliases had become household names thanks to important releases on labels like Peacefrog, and Nova Mute. By 2009, Luke had joined Ostgut Ton, continuing to tour relentlessly and produce music with seemingly boundless energy — a quality with which he continues to approach his work today. His stamina is endless, and in order to keep up with the continuing love and demand for his music, it has to be. In this episode, our discussion focuses on longevity as a DJ, his mix for Ostgut's 15th anniversary, and the drive that keeps him going.
