For this exclusive interview which took place at the Airports Innovate event in Oman, International Airport Review's Editor Holly Miles spoke with Sheikh Aimen Al Hosni, CEO of Oman Airports. Together they discussed the conference, how they lead on innovation including the recent hackathon that they recently held.
Aimen went on to discuss how important it is to invest in IT, their innovative Board of Directors made up of Gen Z and his ambitions for the airport company outside of Oman.

Join us in the finale of our sustainability-led discussion with San Francisco International Airport's (SFO) Sustainability Director Erin Cooke, and the airport's Net Zero Lead, Courtney Carroux.

It's no secret that San Francisco International Airport places sustainability at its heart. Whether that be by making their buildings energy-efficient, promoting electric vehicle usage or supporting the development of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), its clear the airport is doing a lot to protect the environment.

But is it enough? In the second part of this two-part series, we analyse SFO's Greenhouse Gases Inventory - from 1990's to 2022 - to assess how well the airport is controlling their Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. 

"As part of our work with stakeholders to reduce emissions...SAF is a big one. We are working with our airlines and ground handlers to support and electrify ground support equipment."

Erin also gives insight into how the airport fosters a culture of social responsibility and ethos across the workforce. 

"Our airport director - he's probably the strongest environmental ambassador I've ever worked with - is always pushing us to go further. Then, the roots and boots on the ground...are lifting their feet up and telling us that it's not working and they need it to because they want to help us reach our net zero energy goals."

It's a fantastic and invigorating discussion that uplifts the achievements of the airport while also bringing accountability to their actions.

Promoting a circular, evergreen economy at San Francisco International Airport – PART 2

At Routes Americas 2024, International Airport Review's Editorial Assistant, Chunekshi Wimalasuriya caught up with Director of Air Service Development at Edmonton International Airport, Adrian Warchola. 

Warchola updates us on the state of Edmonton International Airport, telling us the airport is dealing with the 'happy problem' of high passenger demand (particularly from record levels of migration from Eastern Europe and India). He further stresses the importance of collaboration with airlines in air service development, and providing them marketing support and catchment information.

Warchola speaks about Edmonton International Airport becoming a hydrogen hub and how it came to be because of the large landmass of Alberta, its hydrogen-rich resources and its infrastructure. This enables Edmonton International Airport to bring together innovators and local companies trial experimental technologies - technologies may one day be a catalyst for the industry's race to Net Zero 2050.
