"Trying to capture the feeling of summer in the Northeast is tough, the most concise summation I could muster is, "finally here, it's almost over" because honestly thats how it feels up here. (not to mention that by the time I finally ever do a summer mix, it tends to be almost over). That feeling of fleeting warmth and beauty coupled with my city emptying out every summer (byyyye students!) is what I tried to capture in this mix, and for me this is what it sounds like inside my head when I step out of the house and start walking on those first warm days. It's also my attempt to extend the summer feeling a little longer than the weather usually allows us to. It's a funky little 55 minute trip through some disco, cumbia, funk, afrobeat y mas. Three nights, two gems and a bolt (part one)

Ladies and gentlemen,

Recently, I played three shows in the North America. The shows took place on successive nights and somehow I liked all three gigs and for different reasons. So, I would like to share them with you as a trilogy over the next couple of weeks. 

Also, there is some news that I would like to share with you; starting off with the announcement of my new album that will be released later this summer. A track from my upcoming album can be heard in one of the forthcoming sets I just mentioned, so stay tuned!

But first, let’s get back to #basementmiami where I had the honor to play with my friends Satori, Viken Arman, Goldcap, Eduardo Castillo and Armen Miran.  I hope you will enjoy the music. In the meantime, we are on the way to South Africa where Nico Stojan and I are teaming up with #bridgesformusic.  While we are there we will of course take the chance to also stop by the African Burn!

In 1995 I passed on a mix tape to Groove Academy (Giant Step) Marc Labelle at an outdoor stage that was rocking with DJ's Jazzy Nice, Chillfreeze + Groove Collective & Nappy G live. They soon took me on as a 3rd DJ in the weekly rotation of the legendary Giant Step parties. The club vibes were HOT! There was a mix of hip hop, jazz, funk, live instrumentation, paintings, tap dancers as well as a very funky & sexy dance floor! Needless to say, I was hooked & thanks to Marc, Maurice Bernstein & Jonathan Rudnick, I stayed in the Giant Step crew for many years after. We pushed the sounds from Acid Jazz/funk, Hip Hop/Trip Hop, House & Drum & Bass- all with live musicians taking it to another level. I've also had the opportunity to DJ at shows for Jazzmattazz, Tricky, K&D, St Germain, Pharcyde, Groove Collective, Massive Attack, Gil Scott Heron & all the greats who passed through NYC at that time.
