Malik Bakht - Yvonne - Opening a Restaurant in Blackpool

Extract from 'O re Nildoriya' performed by Dr Masih Alam (Proshoon)  (GB3228.95/1/3/2).

The song is sung by a boatman also reminds us of the endless loneliness of his trade. As his boat flits from port to port, he feels a longing to return to his wife waiting for him, for as he says, after all that is where his mind has its true anchor. He implores the blue river to release him and let him go back to his love.

In terms of school, the school in the UK is good compared to the one in Africa or one in Nigeria. In terms of friends- both friends are good. In terms of Hospital- the one back here in the UK is better than the one back home. The few things that I think that might have a different perspective is respect- ways of communication, ways of expressing feelings.
Most people feel African child not educated, they are very violent because of what they- no they're not. If African children are actually growing up here, they will be better because of the kind of system, they see here. Like, you virtually have everything at your fingertips. So, I expect African children to be more understanding, they tend to be more respectful. So, looking at this comparison, I think there some things are good in Africa, that I would like. There are some things that are good in the UK as well.

[TRANSCRIPT]

As a teenager, you're not allowed to be dating in the first place. Because the culture has been set up in a way that, you don't get married until you're at a certain age. and before then, you cannot see any male friend. You can't have any male friend or date anybody. If you are seen dating or with a male friend- first of all, you get beatings for that because its unacceptable in our culture.
Whereas here, as much as its- not unlawful- its not really really appreciated or acknowledged. Here, your parents can talk to you about relationships. They can easily tell you or advice you about dating someone. Whereas back home our parents did not emphasise or talk to us about any of this thing which I think is really sad. Because a lot of mistakes are being made from that. 
And in terms of pregnancy- you get pregnant back home, straight away you're forced to get married. And if the guy does not marry you, you'll be unaccepted in the family. You'll be disowned, you'll be lonely. But here, the family supports you, and the government also supports you.

When I first came here, it was not easy. So I have to learn English starting from the beginning- from the alphabet. So, learnt the language first, because if you go and you can't speak the language, its a barrier. You can't understand anything, you can't understand even the system. I did my best- I started going by the college. I learnt English by the college so I can speak a little. What I'm speaking now is the fault (?) of the college. I went to the college- finished. I went to the uni(versity), got my degree. So, now English is not a problem for me now.
