These songs, and specifically the recordings, are symbolic of a time and place in my life. I believe the project was started in April 2015, with the recording of  “Atoms For Peace” --in the room that I was renting at the time, in Northside.  It was a spontaneous idea to learn the song, record and mix it, and post it online. I was introduced to the album that it comes from (“The Eraser” by Radiohead's vocalist Thom Yorke) by a good friend back in 2011 -my first year at Columbia College.  It was in heavy rotation on my iPod while picking up donations and organizing the pantry at the Brighton Center, where I was working in 2015, and I began to really connect with some of the songs on a deeper level (lyrically).  

So this started out from a place of emotional need – to express, and to be heard. I quickly recorded a sufficient take of myself playing the guitar and singing the song, probably well into the evening (thanks to my roomie for putting up with my noise), and did a very simple (yet “experimental”) mix for it, messing with weird reverb effects for ambience and different delays, and ended up recording my tibetan singing bowl for the function of grounded continuity. Point being, I basically threw all this together in an evening and posted it online, just to see who it would reach.  As with most attempts to satisfy the need the connect, through an online presence, I did not –satisfy.  This was not the first or last time I endured this lesson –that there is no instant gratification for the legitimate need of being validated in my existence, and if there is, it certainly won't be found on social media or even the gesture of a friend “IRL.”  Surely, validation and self-worth can only be found and felt within one's own heart, and while others can help remind us of that, ultimately it is a solo quest that we all re-make in every lifetime.   --In fact, there may be an instant felt-sense of self-validation (Trust, Love, etc) any time we focus on the act of breathing and develop that mysterious relationship that bridges the conscious and subconscious minds.  

I repeated that process for a couple more songs (“Belly Full,” “The Eraser”...) before deciding to take more time to “polish” the songs and release them as a cover album –they aren't polished in the sense that they are pristine productions, but in the sense that I've said all I needed to with the song mixes. I decided to use the opportunity to experiment with my style of mixing -specifically in the realm of using ambient effects. All that was recorded (on top of the voice/guitar foundation was my singing bowl, native flute, and vocal overdubs –everything else you hear are effects created in Pro Tools.
Atoms for Peace, The Eraser, Belly Full, and Smoke were recorded in my old bedroom in Northside.
Weight of Living, The Ornament, and Typical Situation / Know were recorded in my living room in Price Hill.

This is also the first album that I am releasing under the moniker Seante Æres, which is a mantra I've developed over the past couple years, which translates to “peace in mystery.” Shanti is sanskrit for peace. Sean + T = my first name and middle initial. Thanks mom!

All in all, these songs, much like the ones I write, are me singing to myself, and the process of creating this has been therapeutic and my only intention in sharing, is just that -to share. Most of the recordings are pretty raw. I used to neglect the need to warm up the voice before singing -this documents that. It's not all pretty and that's kind of the point -but it's real. Well, it was .. at the time.
