Following on from his well-received ‘Impermanence’ EP in 2015, Sidney Charles makes a welcome return to the Truesoul fold. 

It may be a surprise to learn Sidney Charles only produced his first record in 2011; indeed, the Hamburg-born, London-based artist has crafted some of the most sophisticated and effective productions spanning the house and techno genre in recent years, taking inspiration from the rough jacking sounds of the early ‘90s. 

His first release on Truesoul in three years sees him in typically inspired form with a versatile four-track package. ‘Jack Endlessly’ builds layer upon layer of groove-ridden beats and ravey stabs that lead into an exaggerated build up, all deftly complimented by a suggestive vocal sample. ‘R.E.D.’ contrasts excellently, a dirty bass-driven cut with shades of Chicago, that makes its mark courtesy of a rousing soulful vocal. ‘Unchained’ sounds as though it was forged in a knives factory, as expertly programmed drums rub shoulders with deep twisted subterranean stabs for a pin-sharp finish. ‘‘Molec’ closes out the EP as a shimmering end-of-night melodic gem that reinforces the German’s versatility and thoughtfulness as a producer.

Frisky, funky summer vibes shine through Monsieur Frazier's reinterpretation of Boiish & Mike Antix house groover "Do Too Much" on @heshethey

As a co-founder of the Los Angeles-based record label, event production brand, and creative collective, Understated and Understated Recordings, Monsieur Frazier has climbed through the ranks of the LA underground scene with his unique blend of musical stylings. Frazier is a curator in every sense of the word, and his influences when it comes to dance music are second to none.

When speaking of the original track, @boiishsounds said, “'Do Too Much' is all about recognizing when you’re doing too much for everyone else and not enough for you; Be yourself and live your truth. We are excited to be releasing this on HE.SHE.THEY. and to become part of this international collective, promoting inclusivity and diversity within the dance community.”

Operating as an event series, record label and fashion brand, HE.SHE.THEY. is at the forefront of the contemporary inclusive movement. Acting as a safe space for individuals regardless of “age, race, sex, gender, ableness, religious background or sexual preference”, the brand’s ethos is to “create a planet without prejudice for people to be people”. A noble ambition, the label offshoot provides a new avenue for the brand to accomplish this, providing a platform for queer and marginalised artists to showcase their talent.

His nickname used to be Thommo, but during the the early nineties it didn't sound very acid house. He didn't like it, he never liked it this boy from OZ. The name tormented him, it undermined his dance party status and his emerging sexuality he thought. At art school the media students teased him and the sculpture students used to steal his mo wax lunchbox and mix clay into his peanut butter sandwiches. He ate them anyway. Art was going to kill him... he needed to fight back... he needed to become an art killer.
After burning his whiteboard markers, his teaching jacket and other assorted art college paraphanalia, his soul surrended. Giggling, the now defunct COFA Lecturer flipped some switches, twiddled knobs and took any excess clay he found to his new spinning wheels. The abject lump of clay soon became a fragmented mess of dried up mud, dust and spilt candy glazes. It wasn't an idealized form, there was shit everywhere but he loved it. Thommo had become a disco Jockey...Thommo had become Ajax.

Ajax made friends fast, although the dancefloor still wasn't sure of his technique. So he and his few new friends created their own studio...The BANG GANG (Modular). Soon the shit noise that they had created spawned a new poetry and it was recorded (Ministry of Sound Mashed 1 2002, Ministry of Sound Mashed 2 Bang Gang Djs 2005, Tiga/Ajax In the Mix 2005 (both cds nominated for DMA Best mixed cd 2006), Ajax Presents Spin City 2006, Light Sound Dance Bang Gang Djs 2007 (Modular), Sweat It Out 2008 (Sweat It Out), One Love with Bart B more, Billion Dollar Hose PArty with Deekline,Dance Till Dawn, Damnation, I'm With Bang Gang, Bang Gang K-Lassics and Bang Gang Art Killers 1).

Technics In The Mix No.1 Australian Dj 2007 and 2006, Allen &amp; Heath DMA Best Australian DJ and Best Mixed CD 2006, 3d World Dj of the Year 2002, 2004, 2005, his Art Killing had hit new heights. Busy Ps Best Dj of 2007 (XLR8R), Digitalism's best dj of 2007 (BIGSHOT) and Justice's One to Watch in 2008 (DJ MAGAZINE). He is also One half of production outfit Jaxon Pixoff!

He has brought his one man party stop toRome, Ballarat, Paris, Coffs Harbour, Vienna, Newcastle,Berlin, Bendigo, Tokyo, Townsville, Dublin, Glasgow LondonMadridBarcelonaNIceAucklandAmsterdamNewYork etcand he didnt even have to borrow mums money . Thommo's ego spiralled out of control and bent his pop making. People laughed, some cried... His naked ambition had made him a peep show. Soon the dollar coins started to pile, he climbed them and to his surprise all he could see was clay, dust and spilt candy glazes in every direction. He was speaking in tongues, a green foam frothed soon from his nostrils and he perspired..... from his damp brow SWEAT IT OUT Music was formed (www.myspace.com/sweatitoutmusic). 

Launchingin Feburary 2008 as a small record label representing such artists as Gameboy Gamegirl, Edu K, Act Yo Age, Harris Robotis, Yolanda Be Cool, Oh Snap and Killaqueenz, D CUP, and his elusive self. Nearly two years later and after much fluffing about the label now has its own artist management sector with the label hitting its international stride.

As head honcho at Sweat it out, Bang Gang founding member, acclaimed Dj - mix tape whizz kid, World tourer, Club proprietor (The Mercat, Melbourne), former gay pin up, life has served up a big slice.Combined with his one stop party shop antics have made him a ageless brat to reckon with.

With subscriptions to Modern Painters and Frieze now long expired, the battle for dominance between Ajax and Art continues. With the field wider and the arsenal larger, we expect an explosive and intriguing era ahead.
