025 - No other mix CD out has made me want to wake up to it as much as this one. Think slowly rising from a dream/hangover with the best sound possible and that's about it. Both discs on Sasha & Digweed's Northern Exposure open with absolutely gorgeous tracks, Gus Gus's 'Believe' being an example of this. Furry Phreak's 'Soothe (Chicane Jazz)' dives deeper into the sound before the cd moves on to intelligent breaks, early trance and climaxes in what must be one of the most beautiful electronic tracks ever made... Hybrid's Symphony. This isn't just music you would wake up too, it's so good, you'd probably happily die to it as well. Another CD which raises the bar and takes it's own thrown on the Classic Mix CD series, and a fine choice for our quarter century episode. Turn it up... and enjoy the mix.

This week in The Armory we are absolutely thrilled to be featuring two of America’s finest purveyors of the broken beat, Chicago’s Keith MacKenzie and Orlando’s DJ Fixx. It’s about to get filthy up in here! Press play. Get down. 

Illeven:Eleven Recordings’ label boss Keith MacKenzie's contributions to the breakbeat scene cannot be overstated. After honing his skills as a DJ in the 90's Florida scene alongside luminaries like DJ Icey, DJ Fixx and Infiniti, Keith's move into the label game sought to combine his various influences under one roof. Although the primary focus has been bass-driven breaks music, the label built a reputation for releasing quality collaborations from artists working across electronic genres, quickly making it a Beatport favorite. 

Besides his own productions with DJ Fixx (as KMFX), the ever-growing list of releases have included music from producers like Calvertron, Deekline & Ed Solo, Hatiras, Bass Kleph and Gigi Barocco, as well as frequent vocal contributions by the likes of Sporty-O, Sue Cho and Whiskey Pete.  In addition to gigging extensively in North America, the last few years have seen Keith's profile boosted to international breakbeat fame. Over the last year alone, Keith has smashed dancefloors in Spain, Russia, Rome, and London, constantly pushing his potent formula of party-rocking breaks to new heights.

Over the past 15 years, breakbeat pioneer DJ Fixx has been stocking the shelves of record stores everywhere. Said by many as one of the most innovative and consistent producers in the industry, he continues to deliver some of the most sought after breakbeat tracks available. Making his debut in 1998, Fixx produced over 75 anthems on the classic Kaleidoscope Music label. Many of these timeless tracks are still played frequently today. This was then followed by Fixx's own personal imprint, Bottom-End Records (2004-2008). Managed by Afterdark, the BER trademark produced some of the biggest anthems in the industry, easily claiming the spot of one of the top five best-selling domestic labels in the country. Alongside of Keith MacKenzie, Fixx is currently a leading producer for Keith's illeven:eleven label. Frequent solo installments can be found on ILL, as well as collaborations with Keith under the production duo 'KMFX'. With over 150 12-inch releases, over 200 exclusive digital releases, and eight massively-distributed CDs under his belt, Fixx has assembled one impressive Discography. This one from is from the year 1995. Orialys Diaz-Vilariño hand picked all the vinyl and I mixed It live in one take. Also, my Boi Yamin Pardo gave me this mix digitized as an mp3. Yamin said the tape on the inside of the actual cassette housing physically broke. Yamin then took It apart & scotch taped it back together like Humpty Dumpty! Now that's dedication!

'Blast From The Past' (Mixed by Rameses B)

After a 15-year career the Freestylers have covered a full 360 degrees in the Bass music genre, having played all the biggest festivals and most talked about nightclubs around the world, even the quintessentially British music show, Top of The Pops. Having achieved the kind of success most artists can only dream of, they’ve not rest on their laurels and constantly working on new releases all the time. 

Aston and Matt started making tracks together in the mid ‘90’s after discovering a mutual love of hip-hop, electro and beats. They released their first two album ‘We Rock Hard’ and ‘Pressure Point’ on the legendary Breakbeat label Freskanova. ‘Raw as F**k’ and ‘Adventures in Freestyle’ were released on ‘Against The Grain’ and another Breaks power house based out of Brighton, UK. From being voted ‘Best Band’ by Musik Magazine to touring with Lenny Kravitz on his American Woman tour (he asked them himself as he was so impressed with their act), rocking a crowd of 30,000 at Glastonbury Festival 1999 and performing at MTV’s Times Square Millenium Party, playing Big Day Out ‘05– it’s fair to say these guys have had one big adventure so far.

The Freestylers began their career as an Urban Electronic Music Act, and their early tunes ‘B-Boy Stance,’’ ‘Ruffneck’ and ‘Warning’ set the marker. As their music progressed so did their anthems with the seminal tunes ‘Punks’, ‘Boom Blast’, ‘Fasten Your Seat-Belts,’ ‘Painkiller’ and more recently ‘Cracks.’ In addition to their status as underground heroes, they have gained commercial success with their huge global hit ‘Push Up’ and have had their music featured in TV and film, including the hugely successful comedy films Zoolander and Hey Dude Where's My Car. 

They've released 5 Albums-We Rock Hard, Pressure Point,R aw As F**K, Adventures In Freestyle and The Coming Storm and are currently working on a 6th. Gheir ever-eclectic style and renegade approach to production focusing on everything in the bass music spectrum knows no bounds . Whether they’re performing as a live band, sound system or DJ set, you know they're gonna rock hard.

Always just trying to do something different, something people will appreciate, and continuing a journey which never really has a beginning or ending. Are you in or out? As with most of Bones mixes, these are best listened to on a loud system on an open road, but that being said here is another one for the next journey, to destinations unknown.
